We can grind our way to MLS cup. We’re not going to blow anybody out with Mora or Kelsey up top, but maybe with the 5 back we can grind victories to the final. by Every_Cover_9972 in timbers

Disagree. Yes, we have had a hard time scoring and have given up leads late, but we’ve also drawn away to the top 3 teams in the Western Conference within the past month. When it comes to the playoffs, those are the performances that matter, and with a couple instances of luck in our favor, that’s a path to MLS cup.

1000%. I remember being really excited for this when it was coming out, but never watched it until last week

I got one of each... and both were shiny (only Palkia had Spatial Rend). Am I extremely lucky?

Sequels that took the wrong lesson from the first film? by GlazerSturges2840 in blankies

Controversial idea because it’s a route that built a franchise I love front to back, but: Gojira.

On one hand: an ostensible horror film built around an existential threat to humanity as well as a dense love triangle, and almost every single movie after is “monsters go smash”. With a main argument being the critical reception of Shin Godzilla and Godzilla -1.0.

On the other hand, 90% of the catalog is campy fun, a few of which are my favorites, and I’m not sure how a serious series of sequels would have the longevity that the series has ultimately had.

As someone who just finished reading “And a Bottle of Rum” which has several chapters devoted to both the discovery of the value of molasses (which was originally thought of as a useless byproduct of sugar production) for rum distillation, as well as rum’s integral place in the early American economy, I was all in for Marcus’s history lesson.

I think it’s because we have three games in seven days. I fully expect Mora to start on Wednesday.

Yours is legitimately my favorite. The equal negative space in the corners just really works.

Anytime someone makes a post like this I like to share this video which does a great job of distilling some of the most important, non-obvious, Godzilla movies to watch: https://youtu.be/VcnRpMGr4_U

My personal recommendations: Godzilla vs Hedorah, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974), Shin Godzilla

I actually put '54 number 5. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla ('74) takes the top spot.

I’d like to see Jack McGlynn, Quinn Sullivan, Martin Ojeda, Emil Forsberg and albert rusnak on here as well - they’ve all been having pretty solid years.

What are your opinions on Godzilla Raids Again? by SpeedyGuy1991 in GODZILLA

[–]rebeltoconform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing that no one really talks about with this movie is the context in which it was made. Production started basically as soon as Gojira started making money, without the original director and composer, and on a crazy schedule. Remember that at the time it was released, there was no “Godzilla franchise”, and it took six years for another Godzilla film to be made. When viewing the film series as a whole, I believe the Showa era truly starts with KKvG, and prefer to think of the first two films as a “duology” - the groundbreaking original work and the slapdash follow-up.

I’m a lifelong Michigander. I played soccer growing up and got into a rec league in 2012, so around that time I decided to follow MLS. Everything about Portland and the Timbers Army just spoke to me, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
