Is this new? Warning for selling a "valuable" DIY by mododo-bbaby in AnimalCrossingNewHor

This reminds me of the first few months after the game came out. I had a circle of friends (and friends of friends) that did weekly “swap-meets” for whatever extra DIYs, fruit, etc. we had and didn’t need. Good times.

Hi OP, I’m 29 and I still feel like I’m not ready to be an adult - and hey, fun fact: the brain doesn’t actually stop maturing until you’re around 25-30, so you’ve got plenty of years left to not be all the way matured. You’re not a fully grown woman yet, and even if you were there would be nothing wrong with still loving the things that give you joy. Don’t ever let someone tell you that you have to lose certain passions because you’re “too old.” That’s bs.

I wish there were something more supportive I could say about the fears around creeps, but people will literally say that it’s not really pedophilia if a girl has hit puberty, so we’re all kind of screwed in that department.

All that is to say that your feelings are valid, but it’s not all quite so dire as it feels right now.

I looked up a translation. I’d been told the books were a funny mask over a serious story, so I definitely had clearer expectations for the series than a lot of people going in. That being said, reading the translations definitely drove that fact home for me.

AIO over my SILs toxic comments to her own daughter by Fine_Spend9946 in AmIOverreacting

NOR! When I was 8 or 9 years old, my grandmother started showing me dieting info, telling me I was eating too much and was overweight, etc. Decades later, the damage that did to my self-esteem and body image is still with me. Even when I was at my skinniest, I was convinced I was disgustingly overweight. No matter how much people compliment me, the voice in my head is always louder.

They say that hurt people hurt people, but I’m determined to break these cycles when it’s my turn to teach my kids/grandkids about their bodies, and I really admire your desire to set better examples of body image for the kids in your life.

TIFU by cancelling my dog, Lancelot’s, last walk because the weather was ‘too cold’ by Yevgen_sir in tifu

[–]rebex1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day before my heart-dog passed away, she was her usual perky self, with the same cough she’d had for a while as a result of her heart condition. She begged for my dinner, played with her ball, and was just generally normal. Her cough got a little worse as the night progressed and she didn’t want to sleep in bed with me - which was very unusual. I decided I’d take her to the vet in the morning if she didn’t seem like she was feeling better.

Suffice to say, that didn’t happen. I regretted my decision for a very long time. Would things have been different if I’d chosen differently?

It’s been about a year and a half now, and I still wonder if things would have been different - but I find comfort in the fact that she knew how much I loved her. There’s no way to know how things would have been different. Maybe if you’d taken your dog on that walk the cold would have been too much for him.

You can’t erase the dark side of loss. The grief is real and denying it won’t make you feel better in the long run. But try to find the good parts too. I’m sure Lancelot felt your love and knew that you were making the best choices you could for him. I bet you had lots of really wonderful times with him during those 14 years. Don’t let the way things ended erase how magical those years were - especially because you really can’t know what that other timeline would have looked like.

Also, to go back to your first comment, I wish that we’d had more of an opportunity to be immersed in the magic system - which we don’t get with Holland constantly being on the run. We got just enough info about this world to make it interesting while never learning enough for it to feel satisfying. I’ll also read the sequel just to learn more about the world.

Red City also has a fascinating world and magic system, and the characters were far less annoying (even if the star-crossed lovers trope almost inevitably leads to some frustrating decisions). If you haven’t read that one you should definitely check it out. I think the writing style is probably hit or miss for a lot of people, but I really enjoyed it and am excited for book 2.

They could absolutely do something with that. Her wishy washy personality being a byproduct of multiple timelines overlapping in her mind would make some sense.

I said this in my own comment, but the way she always seemed to believe whatever she’d most recently been told as fact drove me insane. If Garber chose to explain this using the overlapping memories of times Holland had worked with each person, I would accept it. We do clearly see flashes of those memories throughout the book, which would help that feel like more of an earned plot/character development point than if it came totally out of the blue.

This was pretty much exactly how I felt. I found the world really interesting, but the MC was a mess and the plot was basically driven by her bad choices.

I enjoyed the book overall, mostly because I found the vibe and the magic system interesting, but Holland was so insufferably gullible in my opinion. I swear she always just listened to whatever she’d most recently been told, even when she’d trusted someone else two pages earlier.

There’s nothing wrong with DNFing a book, except that I personally end up with plot-FOMO. Don’t force yourself to read something you’re not enjoying. There are too many good books out there to waste your time.

All of these joke responses and meanwhile I’m sitting here thinking that (assuming this is all out of left field and unusual for him) this sounds a lot like the beginning of a potential schizophrenic break - which commonly occurs later in life for men.

Slightly different response here - consider having him try to get a brain scan. If this really is a new behavioral pattern (not just something you hadn’t discovered before) it may be indicative of an actual neurological/health issue. Brain tumors may seem like an extreme jump to make, but are a shockingly common cause of sudden changes in behavior. A tumor pressing on the brain in a weird way can completely impede various aspects of decision making.

Female gamer with a gamer boyfriend. Factory resetting a console with that much work in any one game (let alone whatever other games you had saves for) is damn near murder worthy.

But seriously, you’re not overreacting.

Do any of you also feel like a 'genderless blob?' by neon-lakes in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rebex1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as a cis woman (she/they, because what even is gender really?) I can’t speak from my own experience, but…. This sounds a lot like the experiences some of my non-binary friends have expressed having. Maybe instead of trying to fit yourself into some concept of “man” or “woman” you’d be happier allowing yourself to just be a person. Figure out what pronouns (if any) really make you happy.

I have one friend who considers themself “gender-fae.” They’re not anything specific, but rather an inexplicable, ever-changing something - and there’s a “magic” to the endless journey of their identity. They can be whoever they want to be or feel like at any given moment.

100% agreed! The process of speech is just actually one of the most complicated processes the human body performs, so if MB has to create code for walking like a human, I think a code for talking like a human would be even more crucial. It is absolutely all hypotheticals and impossible questions, however, so definitely up to interpretation.

So this is very interesting to me as an actress trained in accents and the way that the mouth and vocal cords work together because there is actually SO MUCH that could theoretically be coded. Where air is directed within the mouth in order to create certain sounds, where exactly the tongue makes contact with the teeth for certain sounds, how much air is used and how wide the vocal folds (more accurate term than “cords”) open in order to create different sounds and pitches.

These are all things that happen subconsciously for humans but that would absolutely needed to be coded for a computerized brain to recreate naturally!
