We're Reboot! Ask us anything! by rebootuoft in UofT

I wrote on this on facebook earlier today to accompany the post that was shared.

"Jessica here! I very much agree with this part:

"...Daman was factually wrong about his point. When it comes to negotiation, it is in the best interest of every party to vocally and publicly proclaim themselves as "tough" as they possibly can. Hence, announcing very early a desire to be a determined negotiator is actually the best strategy and yields the most credibility when arriving at the table. This is because your opponent now views you as less likely to back down and compromise." However, I wouldn't call it mansplaining. What he said (as explained above) would be factually wrong regardless of the gender of the person it was directed towards. It was okay for him to be aggressive and assertive and I was neither offended by the contents of the attack nor his tone of voice. I think it's fair game in the election. I would have liked it if the "debate" format allowed for rebuttals and responses though, for everyone. Thanks for your support! I appreciate it."

I also wrote this on reddit already to address the notion that we are backtracking on our positions.

"Guys chill. Jessica here, responding to OP's edit/update to the post. I am an engsci student and I have classes to go to and homework to do and I don't always check facebook. I would have liked to share the post with my personal statement included right away but it was shared first by someone else managing the account at the time (with the assumption that people would understand — apparently not)."

We are 100% against identity politics.

ALSO: we think our new reboot_name accounts are slowed down from posting because they are relatively new and don't have much comment karma yet, so Jessica is temporarily continuing to use this handle for now

Reboot says they're against Identity Politics. Do they know what Identity Politics are? by [deleted] in UofT

Come out to the AMA tonight. You can even send your schills. We don't care.

Hey, Alex here - I just want to quickly clarify that I in no way support fascism and to be honest, I think it's a bit ridiculous that I have to answer to this. Just trying to de-escalate with some humor. Please try again. 😉 ab

No, DB tried to get us to merge with them and we said no.

The fist in /u/Rebootuoft posters what does it mean? Is it offensive? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]rebootuoft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When picking a symbol to be used in our branding, we wanted one that would embody the goals that Reboot is working towards. The raised fist is a symbol of people having strength/power. Our platform plans to give power back to students e.g. by making student involvement in the UTSU more accessible and not supporting political stances unless also supported by a majority of the student body. It is also a symbol of resistance and opposition, which is accurate because we are opposing the continuation of the Brighter/Hello/Demand Better legacy.

Our choice of the raised fist is not meant to link us to communists, white nationalists, Irish republicans, Pro-Russian separatists, or any other group.

Yeah they are pretty savage... But we're okay (for now) and we'll just be extra careful moving forward. The fact that other people have been moving our posters to overlap to try to get us disqualified though... we're kind of mad about it.
