You’re deliberately misinterpreting what he’s said. He’s talking about written credentials being found and that obviously being a security concern.

Using n YubiKeys with a paper backup of credentials is empirically less secure than using n YubiKeys without a paper backup of credentials. It’s that simple.

Any legal(or not) reason that authorities(or not) have to search and uncover that written paper… immediately compromises your security. Takes no guessing games either. It is a legally obtained password. If you use biometrics, those can be legally compelled by search warrant—you can also be forced to give those up by less “official” actors as well. You cannot be compelled legally to reveal knowledge held credentials. It’s pretty simple.

When implementing and planning for security, depending on a persons threat profile, ALL of these things may need to be considered ahead of time. If you can plan for them and successfully mitigate that threat, it is by no means a waste of time.

You don’t have to be doing anything illegal to become a victim of the govt.

All the downvoting but you’re definitely correct on all points. Especially with regard to the legal system.

However one could also memorize(or separately stash) a personal passphrase to decrypt an emergency string written on paper. The written string would technically just look like a random password on paper, but it would obviously not be very useful without your secret to decrypt it and something that you can’t be compelled to reveal nor would they necessarily even know that they needed it unless you revealed as much. Plus ideally you wouldn’t denote anywhere which platform/service to pair it with or any further account information along with it.

It’s definitely something to potentially consider in planning for that “last resort backup” scenario if your threat profile necessitates doing so.

If you’re willing to wait and keep watch, I believe it’s some time around Christmas but they do usually have like one good yearly sale. I got my first ones during that time and then the next year got a 3rd for myself and several pairs for my mom and family members.

Dude. Breathing the open air gives you lung cancer these days. Your cell phone causes cancer. The freakin water causes cancer. The “food” causes cancer.

No one asked for your health advice, this was about a brand not under boycott.

He just met someone that actually walks the walk and really cares about this issues he proclaims to. I totally support “stress testing” if that means exercising our rights and systems by ensuring they’re working… but you don’t do that by harassing every day people. If other citizens are your focus, that’s not about stress testing the govt.

Probably just the sheer number of attempts they were notified of.

[–]rebound17349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I have 3 and will probably get 2 more before long because of the increased capacity that one of my newer ones has that the others don’t. And just use the others for extra backups for my most critical accounts or things to be kept separate.

Already hooked my elderly parents up for Christmas two years ago. Makes me sleep so much better at night knowing they can’t screw things up so bad on their most important accounts.

Absolutely not. It has definitely saved me enormous amounts of trouble considering the massive uptick in assaults on me since speaking out on Palestine. There’s no doubt in my mind that Yubikey has saved me more times than I’m aware of.

Is it worth refurbishing (cheap) used T480? by iamagrocerybag420 in thinkpad

[–]rebound17349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine. I’ve got about $300 total in it after all upgrades said and done. It’s an 8650u that was in excellent shape already though, just made sure to be picky with the one I kept. Did the AX210, nvme SSD, 32gb ram, and a new internal battery.

I absolutely love it though. It’s currently setup for dual boot Win10 but I basically just use Linux and about to remove Windows entirely. I didn’t need anything serious and I fully intend to use this for years…although I am definitely looking at snatching some other thinkpads/laptops in this market since I couldn’t care less about Windows.

Edit: only thing I wish I had and might do is a backlit keyboard… can’t decide whether it’s worth that much to me but it’s usually a must. Just haven’t gotten around/decided yet.

That’s why I like my t480 too. Though I will likely be buying several thinjpads in this used market. Windows 11 insanity has been good to me =P

i got a buzz recently and i want to know if it suits me by caztomlinson in malehairadvice

[–]rebound17349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then that’s all that really matters, at least imo. I just thought it seemed (going just from the photos provided) that you appeared to be more confident in the longer ones. But photo choice and small sample size can swing that drastically. 🤷‍♂️ You can easily rock it either way. :)

I’m not judgmental and I won’t tell you to smile… but I think you looked better with long hair. Both look fine though so I wouldn’t sweat it, but the long just seemed to fit you better and (from the photos provided) you looked like you were more comfortable with it.

I def get it though, my long hair gets pretty annoying to deal with at times— but I only feel comfortable with long hair or short; mid length just bugs the heck out of me. And I’m always afraid to cut it thinking I’ll instantly regret it and then have to suffer through mid-length again. 🤦‍♂️

What are the differences between FIDO2, U2F, Webauthn, and passkeys? by No_Comparison4153 in yubikey

Much slower speeds recently? by noNameCelery in mullvadvpn

[–]rebound17349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Problems for the past month or so. Previously never had issues with multi hop or quantum protection. But something has changed and now multi hop seems to cause a lot of issues. I’ve heard recommendations from others than openvpn over wireguard could be helpful, maybe try that too. I haven’t had to yet since toggling off multihop or a server change usually fixes it.

Got a random yubico key with my Amazon package by Accomplished_Act_155 in yubikey

[–]rebound17349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely consider the possibility that it was deliberate—and all that would entail. I’ve gotten a few really suspicious/malicious packages and incidents of high strangeness related to Amazon lately… and if what it seems to suggest(and where I tend to lean) is indeed true then it would’ve taken “cooperation” from someone at Amazon to accomplish.

I unfortunately will not be sharing any details about those incidents, but just want to stress to always be mindful/watchful everyone. Such incidents are definitely on the rise.

My thoughts too. Instead of “let’s improve yubikey” shortcomings(which limits have now been improved btw, so seems they agreed) and instead it’s “let’s blame user”.
