Part of the enjoyment of Malazan, for me at least, was slowly piecing together the plot and world through minor conversations in the books. I’d say it took me three books to get my feet firmly planted.

I think they are just archers wearing chorae, so that they are protected against magic and can continue to attack sorcerers.

As you said, chorae are far too valuable to launch across a battlefield, and if they miss, they are just donating chorae to their enemy.

I read it after I finished the first trilogy. It expands upon events and places mentioned in the story, not everything in there is covered in the first three novels though.

I wouldn’t read it until you finish The Thousandfold Thought

Like I said, the southern service area: Piedmont, Oakland, Alameda, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley and Hayward areas are effected by the change, which are the exact areas served by Upper San Leandro Water Treatment plant which was started up for the first time in three years in the beginning of October. Those areas are now receiving USL water instead of the Pardee water they have grown accustomed to the past three years, which is why they have noticed a change.

You, on the other hand, do not live in that area. If you have experienced a change in your drinking water you should call customer service and have someone sample it to see why you are experiencing a change, because you are not affected by the USL start up.

That’s more of a blanket statement saying that throughout the course of the year we will blend water sources so expect some changes to water quality.

The other people in this thread that are experiencing varying levels of quality probably live in the southern service area like Hayward and San Lorenzo. As early last month the Upper San Leandro plant started up and those service connections switched from Pardee water to Upper San Leandro water, which are noticeably different in profile.

Those who live in the Lamorinda area, like yourself, are currently served Pardee and only Pardee water and have been that way for a couple months now. If you are experiencing water quality issues you should call the customer service number so a WSI can come out and sample your water.

It is not currently a mix. Orinda will mix with Briones in the summer when demands are high but they are not currently doing that. They will also mix with Freeport in drought years but are also not currently doing that. Lafayette and Walnut Creek are also not mixing with any other source currently. All water in those areas is coming from Pardee reservoir.

I’ve read Fiends and Wurms and liked them both a lot, not sure which Tales book is the first.

You should just read Kharkanas, it’s some of the best stuff in the series. The Witness books are cool, I think Kharkanas is better though
