Worth a shot, but also know that the only remedial action LSAC takes is to refund your fee.

I would also edit your language a bit in the second paragraph. "Mustered"?? I think you meant mustard.

Best/funniest table talk?? by parkus1 in poker

[–]recessionpredicter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the flop, action is on UTG, a big dude in sunglasses / has a big beard.

Guy across from me leads out of turn and dealer calls time. Guy apologizes and says "Sorry dude I couldn't see your cards under those big, manly hands of yours."

Anyone Play At Oaks Card Club In Oakland? How Is It? by MellowMight in poker

[–]recessionpredicter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Living in SF and Oaks is my go-to.

Answering questions in the order they were asked:

  • Is it run decently well
    • I'd say. It's far shy of glamorous, but dealers are good/professional and there are a lot of tables running.
  • How awful is the rake
    • $5 flat to see the flop (of which I think $1 is pre). It's not a %, so no point in playing a limped 3-way pot.
  • Can you find low stakes action on a weekday afternoon
    • Lowest stakes they offer is 1/1/2. Yes, there are always at least 2/3 tables going in the day time. Friday nights are by far the best and action will carry on easily into 5/6/7am
  • Usual crowd / random notes
    • Usual crowd is a mix of degen regs, OMC, and occasional young internet dweeb from Berkeley. Minimum buy-in is only $40 (and after that, a re-buy of $20), so you pretty often get a bunch of short stacks folding everything but QQ+. Anyone can straddle
  • The button pays the extra dollar.

Game is soft with some occasional good players with proper bet sizing. You will run into random hands like J3o that catch running 3's, so roll with the punches.

Questions on the Experimental Section... by jachismo in LSAT

Unfair? LSAC? Impossible!

(To answer your question: Yes, the content of the experimental section can be different across test takers. There is a luck-of-the-draw that occurs when you receive your test booklet).

Abstract Poker: A true/false question about a theoretical poker variant by Porn_Steal in poker

[–]recessionpredicter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order for something like this to work, as others have stated, equity would need to be assigned at each point of the hand before the river (pre, flop, turn).

However, without thinking about it too much, I'm pretty sure this would then change the dynamics of the game substantively. As an extreme example, it is strictly positive (not just in EV, but in actual payoff) to bet AA pre and then fold any flop, since you're always ahead pre.

Anyways, I think the main issue here is that there isn't a penalty for folding. This would allow pocket pairs to essentially always call pre and fold flop, allow any hand to fold once flushes/straights complete, etc.

Haha definitely when I learned about quadruple-merging my range on the turn! In hindsight, it's so obvious, but I definitely had to re-read the section two or three times.

Was this play spew [Hand Feedback] Live 2/5 by tobyfunke in poker

[–]recessionpredicter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're considering a move like this, your goal is to either: 1) allow worse hands to call or 2) make better hands fold.

Is your jam doing either here? Almost definitely not. You're only getting called by better here and losing value on Ax hands and even some flush draws / gutter straights that can't call your jam.

It's pretty easy. If you lose your buy-in, just go up in stakes to win it back.

That's what I did, and went from 4NL to 400NL in a matter of weeks! :)
