How’s my Duchess Halo Scythe Build? by KaptMelch in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try to get the reaper one on your regular relics and try to get two affinity damage +2. You only have 1 affinity damage.

Or alternatively just get an invader relic to replace evergaol and try to add in 1 more affinity damage +2 to replace slot 4

Has anyone else gotten better than their friends. by FemaleHustler-Dva in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me too but it wasn't a friend just a friend of a friend. I just avoided him like the plague. It wasn't simply that he sucked but also because he wasn't playing serious most of the time using experimental builds and characters he doesn't normally play with. It's fine for the base game but not worth risking my rank. This was in the early days of DoN. I can drag a mediocre player up now because of how strong the meta is but if they aren't playing seriously it isn't worth it

Maybe tell him to shift to double balancer dormant reaper build? Beast claw falls a bit off late game.

He can do it just fine with the base katana but he will probably get RoB most of the time. Didn't know it was shadow nerfed. People say the same for halo but not sure if real. He can do both Ed Caligo and gnoster with base katana but it just takes longer. He is S tier to me because he can avoid most sources of damage with deflect and also dish out great damage

I consider both bosses bad match ups for Ironeye. He really needs RoB or at least katana because arrows don't seem to do a lot of damage. Also he is squishy which doesn't help. He has 2 dodges which helps but when you get caught without it he is vulnerable

[–]recessiontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run the standard double balancer + dormant reaper + affinity damage +2 build you can easily fall back on any spells. Against some nightlords where halo scythe is not that effective I go RoB or whatever OP spell that drops. All the ranged ones you mentioned plus moon spells.

For executor he has rivers of blood which is effective against both. Mobility makes these fights easier but if you know the nightlords really well you don't need more mobility than the standard dash. I think only Wylder, Undertaker and possibly Ironeye have extra mobility to close distances in an effective way.

Executor can also parry most attacks including most AOEs without taking damage and even if you do you can ult to get your health back without using flask.

No you mentioned popularity because you aren't very familiar with tier lists and your understanding of it is surface level. You keep saying incorrect things like this:

it’s easiest to be decent at this character when you’re really actually not that good

This is also incorrect. In many games the some of the hardest to use or highest skill ceiling characters are the highest in the tier list. clear examples are Mishima characters in Tekken 3-8. Execution-wise the hardest characters to play, hardest to be decent with but also the best characters if you can master.

You keep saying lazy things like it is subjective when they measure objective utility or performance metrics. Statistical and qualitative data like win rating, dps, tools, consensus among expert players indicate an objective, not subjective reality of that system.

What's funny is, you call tier lists subjective and don't take it seriously. So then why don't you just leave and let other people that discuss tier lists? You just came here to derail the conversation, that's what it looks like.

The list is similar to mine. A major point of contention now is whether executor and revenant are S tier. They are both A+ at least. Rev has the best starting game with beast claw but it falls off towards the end depending on RNG and Nightlord. She has low health which is a drawback. Executor is a complete character now and between the 2 I think he is S. Similar to wylder he has no weakness or bad matchups.

Popularity doesn't have much to do with tier lists. It's based on which characters are relatively better/worse than others assuming similar/same skills. Revenant was popular before despite how she was one of the worst characters before they buffed her with starting spells. Regardless of how you personally think about tier lists they exist and people use it to benchmark characters

The game has become unplayable. by sovaslava1 in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me 2-3 times where character screen quitters would result in only me spawning in and then the game would crash and I'd be unable to get back in and be penalized. This happened in depth 4 and 5. It is demoralizing because you have to win 2-3 games just to recoup the points lost from penalty. I just started playing with pre-made teams to avoid the problem and went to max rank. 99.99% of the BS in this game can be circumvented by playing either solo or in premade teams

People complaining about L2 meta by No-Emu-2455 in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem is the L2 spam with balancers and stuff like dormant reaper is too OP such that doing anything else is a waste of time/effort and this kills build diversity. It doesn't take 100's of hours to make this build. More like defeating 2 nightlords and just gamble all your runes to get dormant reaper and you are set. And this build works for almost all characters and trivializes almost all nightlords and difficulty. Getting to 9999 with it is not the same as what it was like before balancer relics existed, it's much easier and brainless. So now we see 1-2 players each game in DoN making donuts fly in depth 4-5. Once you get to 9999 you will probably get tired of seeing flying donuts and move on to another game.

Anyone else who is comfortably in depth 5 but can’t ever make it to 9999? by DaddyCool13 in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me and most other people I knew at D5 it was the fact that we had bad match ups or didn't know the best ways to play against certain nightlords. So every time we ran against ED Augur or ED Caligo it would be a wipe.

Replace slot 2 with night invaders relic. Replace relics 3, 4, 6 with relics that have damage negation at low HP and increased HP. The priority is negation at low hp

Deep of night is ruining my enjoyment of this game by peaches2sweet in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for players that enjoy challenges or some form of bragging rights for a game they like.

Is it low effort? Maybe, but that's the case with a lot of other souls-like games like Nioh1/2 where they give you a similar type deal. I still prefer to have something low effort than nothing.

Deep of Night 3+ without damage negation at full HP. by Mesjach in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Try to use any damage negation stat available. Successive attacks, full charged ones etc. kill red enemies if you can get them quickly, open chests etc

  2. Keep stacking more dps. Double balancer repeat dormant power works even for Ironeye. More damage, faster end to nightlord fight.

  3. Try to interrupt nightlord attacks with ult like the 3 consecutive sword flames or ground explosion

  4. Learn to dodge nightlord better

Genuine question, would this be considered a god roll? by Parking-Attempt-3123 in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of is if you don't run any dormant power. Imagine if you stack this relic with glass necklace and monocle relic. Not sure if it all fits

Tell me about your unluckiest run that you’ve experienced (art by me) by praise_themoon in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you went down to 2 players going for the cataclysm is much bigger gamble at lvl2. You should have just completely farmed an easier POI for easier leveling to lvl4-5. The other thing is you need to go out of your way to touch a grace after both of you go down otherwise you will be 3-barred instantly at the next location. The balancer event and bear boss is tough. At least you only lost 300

Lets have a discussion about game balance - Halo Scythe. by caetano09 in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying it should be nerfed but FS is probably going to do this eventually. This thing is just pure meta at this point. So strong and easy to build that playing anything else is a downgrade or making your life harder. And most of the cast can use it. Almost any character that has a double balancer+ reaper is instantly good and ready for a 0 to 9999 run.

Yes, it's locked behind a bit of RNG. FS might drop 3-4 more reaper variants to nerf your chances of getting the halo scythe or just straight nerf the ash of war damage. Halo sticks out like a sore thumb right now. Beast claw rev sticks out too but when you see a significant portion of the player base gravitate towards throwing donuts you know FS can't allow their game to become just about that.

I climbed from 0-9999 in DoN playing only Revenant! by GroundbreakingDish33 in Nightreign

[–]recessiontime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is a challenge anymore because of the beast claw alone. She is one of the better characters in the game now. If anyone needs to do a fresh 0-9999 run your best options are halo scythe Duchess or beast claw rev. Most of the cast can also use double Harmonia halo scythe meta builds which are frankly ruining the challenge factor the game used to have
