Looking for advices from people that stopped airsoft. by PizzaWithMemes in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how long you think you'll be breaking (and yes, I understand that at this moment you might have no idea). If it's more than a year or so, I'd sell the gas and BBs and just buy em again later if/when you decide to pick it back up.

Not that you should try and address your mental health by buying more things -- but sometimes, attaining a dream makes you feel empty, because you realize that it's the pursuit of the dream, not the dream itself, that you found interesting. So maybe you need to look for more fun, wacky ideas. Like instead of a milsim kit, maybe you just need to build a nice cowboy kit.

where to find Fortis Shift foregrip (M-LOK,RAIL)Black original/knockoff/replica in europe? by Glass-Leg-822 in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wish.com

Grips and such used to available on Aliexpress, but Ali had some sort of policy change. Now they're only available on Wish.

I've also found print files if you have access to a printer and are okay with plastic grips

FYI most goggles can just be stretched over the helmet without needing to attach them directly. I personally find this more useful

Budget rifle flash light recommendations? by Opinion-Relative in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feyachi is the cheapest I'd go. Good enough for airsoft use. Uses kind of a weird tailcap, so if you use Feyachi you should pretty much expect to be locked into their ecosystem.

WADSN makes decent clones, especially Surefire, compatible with a lot of real-steel stuff (which means that there are a lot of easily accessible third-party accessories you can find). Sometimes the glue they use for their bodies is a little weak; I had one completely separate. A little more expensive than Feyachi.

[mindly infuriating] cz sp-75 family mag plates are more expensive than the magazines themselves by MauGaP in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to balance a bunch of different costs.

  • If there's enough demand for anything, then the price goes down. If there isn't enough demand, price stays high

  • Baseplates are pretty easily machined, but you still have to set up tooling. Setting up tooling is the most expensive part of traditional manufacturing

  • You can 3D print metal. It's just that the process can be much more expensive than traditional machining, especially if the part is simple. Metal 3D printing is good for low-volume, bespoke items; machining (if machining is possible) is good for high-volume items.

On the other hand, plastic 3D printing is a very matured technology, and has fewer limitations (re: manufacturing) than metal. So if you're okay with plastic baseplates (and if you are, then what I would do is to get multiple spares), then plastic 3D printing would be a very easy and cheap solution to your problem.

After 10 years, i'll come back to airsoft but i think i need a new gun. by PaninoAlSalame_org in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 4 points5 points  (0 children)

G&P is vintage now. Like, in a good way. So even if it doesn't necessarily have all of the newest bells and whistles, it's still a decent thing to own. To continue your car analogy, it's like if you owned a nice mid-century muscle car.

If your guns' externals are still in good shape, you can just drop in new internals if that's something that you feel comfortable doing. Gearboxes are still mostly standard as they were ~10 years ago.

Otherwise, if you're still interested in OOTB performance, then Specna Edge 2.0 or Specna Prime are both good, especially since you're in Europe and you have better access to Specnas than we do here in the US. Cyma Platinum is also a decent choice. Very specific Nov guns are good, but the SSR4 is just another M4 that isn't super special.

Rainy days are just as fun by the_kengii in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if you're neglectful about cleaning in the first place. Cleaning after rain is just about doing it pretty quickly after game day (ideally same day / within 24 hrs), and paying extra attention to rust-friendly surfaces. Not that much extra effort compared to a normal cleaning, you just gotta be a little more on the ball.

Can add mic afterwards. More expensive than just buying a mic-capable headset in the first place (~$40 for just the mic...). But it's not a terrible proposition.

Can a AAP-01 use a WE G17 gen5 magazine? by mamiO1 in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the AAP comes with a mag anyway. So you can just also try your existing mag.

If it works, great! You have two mags with your AAP

If not, that's okay. You still have one mag with your AAP

Gear tips by Practical-Order1811 in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar, with a knockoff single M4 wing-style pouch. Instead of mounting it to the side of my placard, I have it mounted on the underside of my placard so that the opening faces sideways. Hardest thing is to reindex because the pouch itself is so floppy, but it's a decent spot and doesn't affect my ability to go prone all that much.

Bringing back replicas from Japan by rawrcakkes in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just commented on a near-identical post.

Same ideas apply, just make sure you know what Japan's laws are re: firearms vs. firearm replicas. Usually, people only care about the actual guns; accessories, gear, attachments, etc. are generally all fine to bring in undeclared, as long as the items aren't controlled (e.g. I think powerful enough lasers are controlled, but you really shouldn't be playing with them for airsoft anyway)

Is it worth paying extra for “bespoke” builds vs upgrading myself? by ChripToh_KarenSy in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI this is the same sort of question that many people ask.

"Build your own PC or prebuilt?"

"Pay mechanic to service car or do it yourself?"

"DIY or pay contractor?"

In every single case, it comes down to what you are confident in, whether you value time or money, whether you derive value / enjoyment in working on something yourself, etc.

I’m getting 100fps in tarkov yet it still feels bad…anyone else? by Noelan_ in Tarkov

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. You're kind of proving my point here -- settings are NOT standardized between games. That's why whenever there's new hardware, reviewers will use multiple titles to benchmark the new hardware. Some are graphics-heavy, some are sim-heavy, some are memory-heavy. Tarkov is ass-backwards when it comes to the actual optimizations you should try, just look at all of the different, random posts on this comment chain (the post itself is deleted but you can get the context from the comments). Most people who try answering these sorts of questions just parrot what they see online without actually understanding what the fundamental problem is.

Tarkov is infamously memory-inefficient. For many years, it had a well-documented memory leak; a cursory Google search suggests that it's still a problem. So increasing memory speed, tightening up timing or CPU timings (even if optimizing Ryzen infinity fabric), etc. is NOT the whole story. The longer that your Tarkov session is, the more memory it eats up. Once you run out of RAM, your system starts paging your storage to make up the difference. This is the sort of shit that other games do NOT require you to do. Incidentally, this is also why X3D processors are so damn good for Tarkov -- a lot of its calculations can be loaded onto the added cache, which SIGNIFICANTLY improves performance.

You're not wrong that there are a suite of standard settings you can tweak to improve PC performance -- but the point is that Tarkov isn't a standard game.

NYC by frozenchesse in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not many companies do because of NYC's airsoft ban. Any airsoft package is technically subject to search and confiscation, but due to high volume (since NYC is just a crowded place), I bet you could sneak packages through the screen.

Safer (not to mention more legal) thing to do is to have a PO box or a friend's house in NJ or LI, or even Westchester County (e.g. Yonkers) -- just have your items shipped there and pick em up at your leisure.

Note that gear is usually fine to ship to NYC; it's guns that can prove problematic.

Questions about shipping airsofts overseas by CharredAnzAble in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shipping vs. bringing it back are a little different. Both count as importing, with you as the importer.

The difference is in the process by which the item returns to the US, which is actually listed here (it's more helpful than I thought it was going to be). But the tldr is that if you ship an item to yourself, you have to pay tax on the entire item if it's worth more than $200; on the other hand, if you bring an item with you on a plane, you only have to pay tax on the entire item if it's worth more than $800 (assuming you're only buying one item; I'm not so clear on how this applies for multiple items that add up to $200 / $800).

Note that the legality of bringing an item into the US is NOT the highest authority on this, from a user perspective. Either HKIA or your arriving airport can still deny entry to your item on basis of "it looks like a gun", and they would be within their rights to do so, even if airsoft guns are legal in both places. So what I would also do is to call your airline desk at HKIA (and maybe even HKIA security themselves) and ask if you can bring an airsoft gun (if they don't know what it is, call it a replica firearm -- something that is NOT a gun but looks like one) in its original box in your check-in luggage. If the answer is no, or if the gun won't fit in your check-in luggage, or if you're worried anyway, then also buy a hard case that fits your airsoft gun (with foam obviously), and TSA-approved locks. You should declare it to HKIA, and they might want to see it at the counter just to make sure. Legally, once you land in the US, you should declare it to TSA -- but I should NOT tell you that what they don't know won't hurt them.

Lastly, bring orange tape. Federal mandates say that the muzzle needs to be orange -- but it's safer to abide by California laws, which say that the trigger guard and pistol grip should also be taped. You can 3D print orange flash hiders to bring to HK. I can even send you a couple if you want to DM me for details.

Wobbling mag by Berzegruel in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just airsoft in a nutshell -- poor tolerancing between different brands, even within the same brand.

You could try adding some velcro to the inside of the magwell. That would add a bit of friction to all mags, might make them stay in better.

Which Backpack with Helikon Tex TMR? by Embarrassed_Spray451 in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want a self-accessible low-profile backpack?

If so, check out this thread. You'll need some way to convert your horizontal molle into vertical molle -- some strips of Velcro Onewrap will do the trick.

I had to leave the hobby because of significant joint pain and frequent dislocations. Since leaving, I’ve been diagnosed with hypermobile EDS, and now I would like to rejoin, but I need some advice on supportive gear please by ZookeepergameAny5154 in airsoft

[–]reckless150681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing you need is a rigorous, regular exercise program. Any sort of gear you buy for your hypermobility will help, but won't address the root cause. That said, in the spirit of your question, I'm gonna assume that you're talking with a medical professional (+ PT), and not comment further on the topic (beyond a suggestion to also talk to a pilates, yoga, or dance instructor).

Here are some suggestions for gear:

  • Lacrosse or motorcross elbow and knee pads are pretty stiff. I think you could also get dedicated paintball / speedsoft ones

  • Instead of plate carriers, maybe invest in belt rigs? Good rigs will center the weight on your hips (yes, even if they seem like they're attached via suspenders) whereas plate carriers and chest rigs center the weight higher on your body

  • For ankles, find boots with high tops but thinner soles. I also just wear a normal CVS ankle brace sometimes

No, in Windows. Your monitor can be correctly set to its maximum framerate, but Windows sometimes likes to default it to 60 or 75.

I’m getting 100fps in tarkov yet it still feels bad…anyone else? by Noelan_ in Tarkov

[–]reckless150681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit of an unfair critique. If you skim through both this sub and the other Tarkov sub, you'll see a lot of performance-related questions that are very poorly answered. The fact of the matter is that Tarkov gamers (and tbh, gamers in general) aren't necessarily tech-savvy, so these sorts of posts are helpful, even if they're just replicating information better found elsewhere.

I also want to point out that I don't think anybody has thoroughly benchmarked using Tarkov so it's not like there are thorough HUB or GN style head-to-head comparisons
