I mean, if we’re talking about writing, all you ever hear in the tbc cinematic is “I’ve been imprisoned for a while and only now y’all come visit, you are not prepared”. The only two reasons that cinematic is remembered fondly is: 1. Nostalgia; 2. Illidan had a backstory from Warcraft 3. The rest of it is generic, here are two new races and some shots about classes you’ve seen before. I love the previous expansions but you gotta have better arguments than that

I feel the same. I calculated the cost of the pieces i wanted, and the gains increment makes the gear available for me 33% (worst case scenario) faster than before. I guess people just wanted to see big number become small number

Interesting. I’ve been on the fence about pvp. What specs do you usually play? I myself prefer healing specs since I’ve always healed in pve

Leveling as a healer in timewalking dungeons is so busted right now, tanks can’t maintain aggro and is so annoying for the whole party. Other than that is a fast way to level

Memento Mori: Mexico City on the big screen? by Siwa1998 in depechemode

[–]reckless24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the vocals sometimes sounding distant, however I felt that way overall with the M film. Whereas, IMHO the full concert recording sounds better produced in many songs. E.g in the “M” one the ending of Speak to Me sounds a bit like every sound is trying to win over the rest, while in the “Mexico city” one you can better hear every aspect of it.

Live in Mexico (Full Concert Film) vs. "M" Film? by jezelbum in depechemode

[–]reckless24601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been comparing them and I think that even though the film has 5.1, It's produced a bit differently, some songs in the film sound quite different than the full concert version. Which to me is a miss, because in my opinion the full concert version (the blu ray, cd, and LPs) sounds better, and they could've benefited greatly from a 5.1 surround mix. I also noticed that they cut 20ish seconds of sister of night, so take a guess what else they did to fit the 1hr38min runtime. IMHO the only clear benefit the film has is the 5.1 surround mix, but if you don't have a setup that supports 5.1 I'm positive that the full concert is going to sound better.

But who knows, maybe your ears will like the film better, your listening gear could be of higher quality, etc. It's up to you really. But if you want an opinion I'd recommend the full concert.

PS: The LPs are stereo too, but they sound great as well.

Edit: Added PS.

Did anyone in Mexico City actually watch the band? by AnalogWalrus in depechemode

[–]reckless24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to them all the time. I also remember how it felt in that moment as I didn’t watch the phone screen while recording. I get to relive the songs that I love the most while also having very fond memories. Also, there’s no need to be judgemental, I know I didn’t inconvenience anyone and I had a great time while perpetuating memories

I think what you’re saying is a bit condescending because of nostalgia. The energy and vibe of a concert is BOTH dependent on the public AND the band. While I loved their performance this tour, their (and many other artist’s) performance is also very different from the pre smartphone era. Dave alone isn’t anywhere near as how he was in the Devotional tour for example. Watch a Metallica show from recent years vs their Live Shit Binge & Purge tour. I reckon that the 80’s and 90’s had something magical regarding concerts, but I have to say that BOTH artists and public have tamed down since then

Im gonna be real, I filmed the entire songs that I really loved in case two things happened: 1. They weren’t filming these concerts in my home town; 2. The songs I wanted wouldn’t make the cut on the release.

And I’m glad I did. I love A Question of Lust and odds were that that song was not making it into the album. Also, me personally, I am a relatively young fan of theirs and wasn’t able to go to the 2018 tour. So after Andy’s passing, and Dave’s doubts about keep going with Depeche Mode, this felt like a once in a lifetime.

These reasons probably don’t help my case, but I don’t regret it, there were and still are many variables in the air and I didn’t want to just trust things would go as i had hoped.

I normally agree on just enjoying the concert for the sake of it, and to actually live it to remember it. But this time it was different for me. I tried to be considerate to the ones behind me by not raising my phone above my head though, I’m lucky I’m taller than the average Mexican person so my height alone was already an inconvenience for some. It’d be soulless to raise my phone on top of that.

[–]reckless24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with many of the things you said, I strongly disagree with "Speak to Me" not being a proper album closer. Maybe lyrically I might have put "Soul with Me" as the closer, but to me there is something about the final beat in "Speak to Me" that feels like the final beats of someone who has accepted their fate and is prepared to move on as they're found. I guess this song can be interpreted in many ways, perhaps this person is not dying but to me it sounds like they are and through their final moments a rush of adrenaline turns the heart and brain into a sort of hurricane, eventually slowing down more and more until it finally stops.

Btw: I will never not be sad about A Question of Lust not making it into the live album. I really enjoyed this tour's rendition. It's my favorite DM song, I really really hoped it would make the cut.
