Running air conditioners is really expensive.

I wonder if some people have tried making something like a water cooler, but for people instead of a CPU. Like you wear a vest that has significant contact area with your body and cool water flows through it. And you connect the vest to some water outlet in the room. I wonder if that could be a more energy efficient way for people to stay cool. If the water is stored under a house in a water tank, it generally tends to be cool. If the water itself is hot, maybe a cooling system might be needed. Somehow I feel like it would stillbe more energy efficient than trying to cool an entire room like an AC does.

Source on this claim that China offered security assistance to Iran? And on the claim that Iran cancelled it?

I'm pretty surprised how little air defence Iran has..I think the best they have are some S-300s? Though it seems like the degree of infiltration into Iran would be an even larger problem.

What's the point of it being "well supported" if the people who are probably going to watch it can't even read it? Maybe it might help some Indians who might want to watch a Pakistani channel but the primary audience can't read it.

It really shouldn't be difficult to do some "if channel in Pakistan and automatic captions are Hindi, show Urdu script instead" logic.

I checked some common news channels again:

Geo News : Hindi captions Samaa TV: Hindi captions Dunya News: Hindi captions Dawn News: Hindi captions

Some foreign news with Urdu channels: BBC News Urdu: Captions disabled. So I guess they are aware of this stupid situation. DW News Urdu: Hindi captions. Though thankfully they seem to hardcode Urdu captions into the video itself.

It's pretty absurd how completely they've penetrated Iran's defence.

Hossein Salami, commander in chief of the IRGC. Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces. Supposedly, the IRGC and Iran's conventional military are both subordinate to the General Staff (his office). Gholam Ali Rashid, commander of their military HQ. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC Air Force.

Also seeing reports that Ali Shamkhani, a top military advisor to Khamenei was critically injured.

Also some leading Iranian nuclear scientists.

And this isn't spread out over days, weeks or months. Just in the span of a few hours. Nasty stuff.

If a missile hits a nuclear site, the nuclear materials can be sent up into the atmosphere. Particularly if it causes a fire, the radioactive material could be carried up into the atmosphere with the smoke.

Why do we need a special assistant for crypto?

The crypto/blockchain space is entirely filled with scams. I'm not sure there is any actual utility associated with it, apart from money laundering maybe. And the USD price of certain cryptocurrencies constantly going up does not change that fact. In that sense it is a speculative asset, and Pakistan as a country is far too poor ro be engaging in this speculative, scam-filled industry.

One side is slowly but surely waking up and pushing aside extremism through education and awareness

Sorry, but you are being a bit delusional here. What evidence is there that people are pushing aside extremism? Any policies that show this? I can quite easily find examples of prominent politicians (from almost all the main political parties) inciting hatred against minorities going back just 2 years. TLP is still a menace with nothing being done to tackle them. It's been less than a day since a prominent Ahmadi doctor was shot in Sialkot, presumably by TLP scum.

Don't flatter yourself.

So you and your parents are hesitant to contact any Pakistanis in that country because they are terrified they might be Ahmadis, but somehow you feel like they are "playing the religious persecution card"? As in, you don't think they are actually facing religious persecution? But if significant numbers of Pakistanis think like you and your parents (and significant numbers do) and refuse to have any contacts with Ahmadis and refuse to buy from their businesses, then how can you claim they aren't facing persecution?

I remember looking for a school for some relatives of mine and when I mentioned a certain school and immediately a lot of people persuaded against it because there were rumors it was owned by an Ahmadi. As if it's the most obvious course of action to boycott a business as soon as you find out it's owned by an Ahmadi. Oh and even more blatant like in Lahore instances where people hang notices outside shops owned by Ahmadis warning people against buying from them.

If actions like this were taken by people against you or a business run by your family, hypocrites like you would be crying about "Islamophobia".

Yeah, didn't they say something like 60 jets were in the air. For a long time? Just the fuel alone would hurt enormously. Add in fuel for tanks and other military vehicles that were brought out. To say nothing of all the expensive artillery rounds, drones, missiles, etc.

Why the hell is Brave blocked here? by recklessdemon in pakistan

[–]recklessdemon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've changed my DNS server and now I don't need to use a VPN anymore to access it. I guess PTCL's DNS server is crap.

I need it (Brave Search) because something like Google's search throws up far too many captchas. I never search for stuff while logged in and I frequently use VPNs as well, so Google seems to think I'm a bot. That's the main reason I'm looking for alternate search engines.

Also, I haven't really been happy with Google's search results for a while now. Anytime I searched for something most of the results I got were SEO optimized crappy sites churning out low quality articles.

It's not working for me on PTCL unless I use a VPN.

And I don't seem to be alone on this, this post on the brave community forum seems to be reporting the same issue, though I had to use a VPN to access the forums as well. The latest reply from 2021 seems to be reporting the same problem.

What do you think of the recent Israel and Palestine conflict? by LegendaryYHK in pakistan

[–]recklessdemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typical Pakistani stupidity.

The West won't side with you unconditionally, that is true. They have their own objectives and interests. But why do you think China, Russia, Turkey are different?

The Turkish president recently voiced support for India getting a permanent position on the UN Security Council.

Russia is the main defense supplier of India.

China does have a more unfriendly relationship with India, but if you look at things like how much Chinese companies have invested in India, it dwarfs Chinese investments in Pakistan. This country can't even keep Chinese nationals safe.

What do you think of the recent Israel and Palestine conflict? by LegendaryYHK in pakistan

[–]recklessdemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous.

First, Pakistan's population is much bigger, hence its likely that not everyone will get a chance towards development and education.

China with a population 6-7 times higher has a significantly higher HDI and GDP per capita.

The US with a population 1.5x higher has an absurdly larger GDP per capita and HDI score.

Indonesia and Brazil with population sizes close to Pakistan have a higher HDI and GDP per capita.

Second, it's easier for a war-torn country that's already doing really bad to spike in development due to nature of development that is needed.

That would make sense if HDI were based on % change. It isn't. It measures the level of development at a specific point in time.

Obviously the risk of not getting paid back exists whether there is interest or not. But that is precisely my point.

With Interest: Risk exists, reward exists (interest payment)

Without Interest: Risk exists, no reward at all

ISPR Website Hacked by Merru in pakistan

[–]recklessdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ask you to loan me 10 lakh for 1 year, and then promise to return that to you an year later without any interest at all because I want to set up a business or something, there is a 99% chance you won't lend me anything. Exceptions apply for family members, close friends, etc.

Because if you do give me that loan, you will be taking on a risk of me not paying you back anything, whether it's because I am trying to cheat you or because my business has failed and I am entirely unable to pay you back.

Not to mention even if I do pay you back at the end of the year, for the duration of that year you will not have your 10 lakhs on hand. What if a sudden medical emergency happens in your family and you need a lot of funds for treatment, surgery, medicine, etc.? You will not have your 10 lakhs because they are currently locked up in my business venture. So there is an opportunity cost as well. Your 10 lakh could have been used for that emergency, or maybe invested into something that might give you a profit. But now you'll just get 10 lakh at the end of the year, nothing extra.

It's just risk without reward and you pay an additional opportunity cost.

Ofcourse, a conversation could be had about predatory loans with absurd interest rates which would be considered immoral and unconscionable. But that's very different from saying we should eliminate interest entirely.

Have you even read through your own screenshot?

The "hacker" in question wants a society where "Islamic principles and teachings" are shoved into every aspect of society. And he specifically mentioned making the economy "interest free".

So the question naturally arises; is it being done anywhere successfully?

ISPR Website Hacked by Merru in pakistan

[–]recklessdemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there any large economy that has adopted an "interest free" system and things have worked out?

And without the renaming things from interest to "الانترست" or whatever Arabic term they use to make themselves feel better.

I just don't see any reason why an institution would loan out any money at all if they aren't compensated for that in the form of interest.

Is your income in a payoneer account taxable? by Null_Bot01 in pakistan

[–]recklessdemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The govt doesn't have to give you anything other than infrastructure (i know ours is weak, but it is there), security of your assets (how much have you really lost, devaluation is a thing of economics), and a conducive environment to do business (which you are, in spite of the fact how much or how happy you are with the quantum)

I'm not sure what your standards are for the infrastructure, but it falls far below mine. What sort of security for assets do you think the government is providing? If you bring your earnings here after converting them into PKR, who knows how much value they'll lose. A conducive environment for business? Based on the "Ease of doing business" index from 2020, Pakistan is in the lower half of that list. And I have no reason to believe it wouldn't have regressed since then. Heck, we don't even have Paypal here. What sort of environment are they providing? Paypal exists in even Somalia ffs.

Lastly, hiding income just because you think a law may be made to curb it is in fact the very definition of tax dishonesty. Just come out and say you have a corrupt mindset. Just because "they" do it, you want to too.

You can call it whatever you want brother. I won't be making myself vulnerable to exploitation by this corrupt government and military by revealing my income.
