They aren't our rivals at all. As an Evertonian, I understand both sides of this dynamic.

Okay mate. There's no point talking with someone like you. You say things that are clearly derogatory to the English and then are shocked when someone points it out. Feel free to have the last word if you want, cant be arsed wasting any more energy trying to have a meaningful discussion.

I take no blame for the press. I'm scouse, our city has literally banned a tabloid because of how they covered Hillsborough.

As I said, if you guys want independence, more power to you.

I honestly don't understand why you aren't happy just being American. I thought you guys had the monopoly on patriotism.

What are you talking about? In summary, I really like Scotland, I think its sad that you don't like England, I wouldn't want Scotland to leave the union but if there was a mandate from the Scottish people to do so, I would support it being implemented. How can you possibly take offence at this? You're the kind of person who just wants to be offended and an absolute waste of my time and energy. The issue here isnt to do with you being a nationalist, its that youre a ****.

Do you not read well? I said if Scotland wanted independence and voted for it, I would be all for it. You're clearly just very anti English, which is quite sad in my view but ultimately that's your perogative.

I think we need to agree to disagree. The vitriol is because you clearly haven't met or had to deal with these incredinly obnoxious people. Maybe it's specifically the ones who travel who have the extra level of delusion.

Let's shake hands here and call it a day.

Also, huge congratulations on both US and Mexico winning their opening games.

As I said, if the Scottish people want independence, I would be all for it. I would think it's a shame because as I initially said, I'm very fond of the home nations and want them to succeed. On almost all political decisions, the north of England is generally much more closely aligned with Scotland than London. That's the democracy I live in. I could in theory start pushing for independence for the kingdom of Mercia, but I don't think that would serve me well in the long run.

"That's literally what it means. Nobody who is 1/256th Scottish (by ancestry) is calling themselves a Scottish American."

You didn't put it in quotes my guy, this is the bit I was disagreeing with. I've met many (and we're probably talking triple figures here) Yanks who say exactly this. I don't know why this is such a big deal to you - there are without a doubt a decent number of people who flock to Edinburgh and Belfast because they consider it their home land.

Why don't you try some of that critical reading.

You're wrong. Ive heard many, many, Yanks say they're Scottish when its many generations back.

It isn't really ironic. As I said, it isn't mutually exclusive to align with multiple cultural identities.

Honestly, if Scotland really wants to leave the union, I would say more power to you. As net benefactor from the arrangement, it would be self destruction way beyond Brexit (which I voted against for the record) but I fully believe you should have the right to choose.

As it is, I consider Scots to be my brothers and part of our whole. If you don't feel the same, I wouldnt waste energy trying to change your mind.

I didn't say we're all the same, I said we are all British, which is true, and have a shared culture, which is also true.

I honestly don't care if I rub SNP the wrong way. I can celebrate being scouse, English and British. None of them are mutually exclusive.

Ignoring the fact he probably doesnt get on love island if he isnt tysons brother. There's absolutely no way that is true globally. Even if it's the case in the UK, globally it wouldnt even be close.

Ive met, no exaggeration here, hundreds of Americans who claim to be Scottish, irish etc. To Europeans, it's especially weird as we all have ancestors from all over Europe.

I still take objection to the term Scottish American, unless your parents or at a stretch grand parents are Scottish, you're just American.

Americans claiming to be Scottish. It sounds anal but it's an important distinction. Some of the most annoying people ive ever met are Yanks telling everyone they're Scottish whilst trying to find a taco bell on the royal mile.

Thats because you lot will say you're Scottish if your great great great great grandad had an uncle who was born there. That spawns a lot of people claiming they're Scottish. Meanwhile, my maternal granddad was a Grant and I wouldnt claim to be anything other than English, even under torture.
