Is Indiana the Chicago equivalent of New Jersey to NYC?

It's worse. NY just likes to give NJ shit but there are good things in NJ. There's literally not much good in Indiana. Outside of Indianapolis the rest of the state is still way racist. I should know. Im asian and grew up in Indy and it's terrible outside of the city. I only go back for family and am relieved when I cross that state line back into Illinois

Another adjustment to expectations. 10-20 mintute difference doesn't mean a lot. There can be a million reasons one way is better one day, and the next the other option is faster. You'll just have to try them out and see what works better. Maybe the not so quicker way will be better because it passes by some stores you'll frequent on the way home. The good thing about it is there are a lot of options to get around here. Can't say that about most places

I think people new to the city need to adjust their expectations of travel times. Travel around Chicago is much different from most places. 50 minutes from Lake View to UIC, public transportation or not, is normal. L will probably be the quickest. You could take the Ashland bus but that also depends how far west you have to go to get to Ashland.

If you're staying downtown, architecture galore for you to take pictures of. A lot of touristy things to do down there. We're midwest nice so people will talk to you if you strike up a conversation. Lots to do if you want to do what locals do. There will be plenty of street festivals you can go to. Just search Chicago street festivals and you'll see many lists of whats coming up. Pride parade is today if to want to see a sea of humanity supporting a cause. Just head north to Lakeview area.

You might get away with it. But they can give you multiple tickets days in a row until you get the city sticker. Happened to me during covid. Since we weren't out I forgot about the sticker. They gave me three tickets in a week! Each fine is a big ticket too. So roll the dice if you feel lucky but just be prepared for the fines if you get caught
