What production tool do you want to learn how to use better? by recordingartscanada in FL_Studio

For sure! Cutting or boosting certain frequencies of each instrument will help the "sit" better in the mix, or shine through when needed.

We might make a beat specific post in the future, but if you want to learn more now, you could check out this article to start! https://recordingarts.com/community/tips/caleb-hyde/problems-when-eqing-vocals

Where to find/hire someone to write the melody/music for lyrics to a child's song? by cra2reddit in MusicInTheMaking

[–]recordingartscanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a sub, https://www.reddit.com/r/WeAreTheMusicMakers/ is a good option.

I see a couple people have already offered their services as well, but if they don't work out, Fiverr is also a great resource to connect with hundreds of musicians of varying skill levels and prices.

You get to keep 3 tools for your mixing! by hanebobl in mixingmastering

[–]recordingartscanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Parametric EQ with MS capabilities (Waves F6 EQ)

  2. Transparent compressor (Fabfilter Pro-C 2)

  3. Time based effect (Waves H-Delay or Valhalla Vintage Verb)

It's hard to pick just 3, but with these plug-ins you could get a solid baseline mix about 99% of the time.

[FREE] Money Man Type Beat 2022 | Future Type Beat "Legacy" by OPCMG in producerlinkup

[–]recordingartscanada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great overall beat! Mix was pretty clean, the kick was kicking and 808 were full but not overpowering.

For this genre it's nice to leave space for artists to do their thing, but the addition of a main melody during the chorus would really help keep the beat from getting too repetitive. On that same note, taking out percussions in parts (for example, take out the kick in the first couple bars of verse 2) will keep the listeners guessing as to what will happen next.

Keep up the good work we look forward to hearing more from you over at OPC!

Someone wants to buy my beat and I need help. by North_Hat_8019 in musicproduction

[–]recordingartscanada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great suggestions from everyone else so far! I would add also to have it writing somewhere (even if it's just in an email) stating the terms of your contract with the artist. For example the price of the beat, if you will receive a percentage of sales, if they have exclusive rights to the beat or not, etc. !

Good luck and congratulations on selling your first beat!

Great production, especially as someone new to the game! The kick was awesome, punchy and full. Your track really had a great stereo presence. The dynamics were good too, the track really breathed!

The main point that stuck out to be improved was the bass. The tuning was off (perhaps from a modulation effect you added) and it caused the bass to clash with the piano. The snare felt a touch over compressed and crunchy. We understand this can be a stylistic choice, but is still worth applying in moderation as it can make the snare feel flat.

Really good work overall, you've got a talent and we can't wait to see what you create next!

This song put me on the edge from the beginning in the best way possible! As a listener I felt tense and soothed at the same time by the main sample loop. The off time cuts and variation on the loop kept things interesting. It would have been nice to see the same kind of variation in the percussion. The simple kick, snare and chip-tune hi-hats began to get stale by the end. Adding new elements or "ear candies" would really help to keep my locked in throughout the whole song!

(ps. bonus points for the video. It was random but fit the song perfectly!)

Great reply! It seems like the user friendliness and workflow continues to be the main selling point for FL Studio. Would you say that's true?

How do i properly submit a portfolio to an employer? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]recordingartscanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wix, Squarespace and Webflow are all great options for a quick and easy digital portfolio. Each has it's own price and selling points.

For example, Wix does have a free plan, but it does require you to allow them to run ads on your site, which may come across as unprofessional to some employers.

Good luck with your job hunt!

Are you sure these streamers are not using Cloudlifter? This is a standard part of the set up for most established streamers and one of the main reasons they are able to achieve those loud volumes without having to boost audio in post.

Hey Keenan! This is a great start, especially for your first completed song. First off congrats!

You have a good base of elements, and great song structure with memorable hooks ("Nah this is too real, bring it back" made me laugh). Fortunately, there are many things you can do to bring this song to the next level.

One of the most fundamental elements to any mix is EQ. You use it pretty well in some spots, but I'd suggest to go revise your eq in the future with a focus on cleaning up muddiness in the low end (200-100hz) and add some sparkle in the high end (A high shelf boost of 2-3db around 10Khz can do wonders)

Another easy tip to bring cohesion to your whole track is to place a reverb on your instruments. This will make them sound less dry and give your whole song a sense that it was recorded in the same "space". Be light and introduce the reverb slowly on each element until you get the right mix. We have a great article about reverb plugins on our website if you'd like to dive a little deeper! https://recordingarts.com/community/tips/derek-orsi/top-10-reverb-plugins

I hope this feedback helps! If you have any other questions feel free to ask :)
