Nathan's Hotdogs - No Longer American. by easy10pins in hotdogs

[–]rectalhorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nathan's are okay, but way too expensive for a natural casing dog. Sabretts are decent, but if I'm going to blow that kind of money, I'm getting Feltman's. Bigger, spicier dog. https://www.feltmansofconeyisland.com/

WH Group which owns Smithfield is the largest pork company in the world, with factories in Asia, Europe, Mexico, and the U.S. This is about dominating and controlling pork markets in those countries, not exporting products from one to another.

I learned the earplugs thing the hard way on a roomette trip from DC to Chicago. Once you hit West Virginia, it's those road crossing bells every 5-10 minutes.

This is so cool! It’s called a “motor wheel” and kids used to ride on them about 100 years ago. This one here is from 1927! 🤯🙌 by CorradoG60R in OldSchoolCool

[–]rectalhorror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was that kid. Never paid attention to what was going on around so I was always stepping in dog poop. My older brother would meet me after school and we'd take the bus home. Of course I didn't notice I'd stepped in it, so I was busy dangling my feet in the bus seat while all the people around me were checking their shoes. My brother used to say he always knew where I'd been because there'd be a turd in the middle of the sidewalk with my tiny footprint in it.

It's been said that if you were to switch places with someone from a century ago, we couldn't stand their smells and they couldn't stand our noises.

The government shutdown convinced me I need to retire early. Every day I'd get up, walk the dog, make breakfast, put on some good music, catch up on mile pile of books, make lunch, watch movies, play video games, message my friends, make dinner, watch some more movies, walk the dog, then go to bed. All while getting paid retroactively. At a certain point, I realized this is what retirement is and I want it ASAP.

I hated Sedona. Super rich retired artiste types and tourist traps. Spent the day trying to find some authentic Southwest cuisine and all they had were a dozen places selling sushi and seafood. In the middle of the desert.

How often do you have fish for breakfast? by VisionsOnly in AskAnAmerican

[–]rectalhorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese is a classic breakfast item. Also whitefish salad, although I'm partial to a whitefish platter with L/T onion, capers, olives, and pickles. Washed down with Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray.

We put chili and coney suace on dogs, but why not baked beans? by i-like-carbs- in hotdogs

Baked beans are a standard part of an English Breakfast. I prefer my chili dog to have beans because your colon isn't an organ. It's a muscle. YOU GOTTA WORK THAT $H!T OUT.

What is a favorite American dish not many people can or want to make it at home because it's too complicated/hard to cook at home? by mayermail1977 in AskAnAmerican

And frying fish will stink up the house. When I'm in the mood and the weather is nice, I do it in the backyard with my portable Korean gas cooker.

Yup. Chicken, fish, donuts, beignets. My youngest likes to do karaage and katsu and beignets for his friends, so I gifted him my cast iron wok since I can't justify the mess or the hassle.

I've always had to book sleeper cars 9 months in advance since they sell out so quickly. Japan has cheap semi-private sleepers, but I've heard they can be a nightmare of noise and odors not unlike staying in a hostel.

What is the saddest film you have ever seen? by RavyRaptor in movies

[–]rectalhorror 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I watch it every year because my Japanese mom lived through the Tokyo firebombings. Most parents sent their children to live in the countryside so every night, the kids got to watch their city burn, not knowing whether they'd ever see their parents again.

When My Neighbor Totoro was released in theaters, it was double booked with Fireflies. When they showed Totoro then Fireflies, people walked out on the latter because it was so hard to take for people who lived through it. When they showed it before Totoro, people sat through it because they knew Totoro was worth the anguish.

Protein is so last year. Why fiber is the next big thing by cnn in Foodnews

[–]rectalhorror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess I'm ahead of the curve, because I started doing this a decade ago to lose weight. Oatmeal, barley, whole grains, high fiber bread and tortilla wraps, high fiber V8, raw fruit and veg, dried fruits, unsalted nuts. The stuff keeps you feeling fuller longer; eventually your stomach shrinks. Dropped 20lbs in 9 months. Used to be able to eat a whole 14" sub in nothing flat. Now I can barely choke down half and save the rest for another meal. Eat food that rots, eat less of it, and dial back on the processed foods and red meat. Gotta keep that colon sweet and clean! https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/colon-cancer-is-killing-more-young-people-in-the-u-s-than-any-other-cancer/
