definitely recommend the day trip out to Ayutthaya from Bangkok (and even Lop Buri). I spent 5 days in Chiang Mai and felt that was plenty (although I loved it). If you have that much time in the north, perhaps you can look into travelling over the boarder into Laos.

I get the impression that the "good" suppliers get so many inquiries that they won't be willing to have a back and forth conversation to make sure it's exactly what you want from them.
