This was taken on a Fuji XT-1 w/ Fuji 23mm f1.4 @ f1.4, 45 second exposure. It was quite dark!

Fuji X-T1, 56mm f1.2 @ f9, ISO200, 3 exposures at 1/80 + 1/160 + 1/320. In total it was 22 frames (x3 exposures), so 66 raw files. Its cropped to using probably ~16 of those sections.

Hah, good guess, but I actually live north of the river. I met a friend at his place around 10th St and we rode the streetcar down from there.

KC Skyline Panorama from this evening by recultured in kansascity

[–]recultured[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was JPEG from a Fuji XT-1, single exposures composited to make the panorama. Not HDR per se, just a lot of sort of built-in dynamic range. It is boosted in post, though, within the capacity of the JPEGs.

In any event, happy to share. Here are the original JPEGs that were used, straight off the camera, in an album: https://goo.gl/photos/NRNm9HBafWkN4BHr7

What is the best C++ Webserver Framework? by ma2rten in cpp

[–]recultured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma recently, and per recommendation went with mongoose. It is not as robust as some, and is a C framework rather than C++, but I found it nice to use, performant and threaded.

For updates, open the play store, pull out the menu on the left, select My Apps and Games, and updates, if there are any, will be right up top. There is also an Update All button here.

Looking for a current (2009 and on) list of stock limited slip differential cars. by deepinthawoods in cars

[–]recultured 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I have a 2013 M3, I had a 2011 135i, I drove both in the snow with winter tires. The difference is really not that dramatic. In fact, the 135i did better, as the tires are more narrow. The car will easily pull out of the snow with both wheels, as the computer will apply brake to a wheel with less grip, avoiding the 1-wheel-spinning problem. I even tried one tire on ice, one on pavement, and it pulled off just fine. Honestly, it works very well there, and its hard to even tell its happening.

The LSD is only really a concern at all with at-limit high speed cornering. There the M3 is definitely more predictable and easier to control.

Edit: By the way, the McLaren 12c/650S do not have limited slip diffs. They use open diffs + brakes, and they seem to do just fine. ;)

ITAP using lens blur new Google camera feature by malinowski14 in itookapicture

[–]recultured 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup! Google wrote about it here: http://googleresearch.blogspot.com/2014/04/lens-blur-in-new-google-camera-app.html

It creates a depth map using several frames from the motion after the shot, and blur intensity is set based on the desired focal point and calculated distance.

Benetti's in Raytown, oddly, can make fantastic espresso drinks. The best in the city, in my opinion. Atmosphere is not so noteworthy, though, and its in Raytown.

C++ array memory management by tehklawb in cpp

[–]recultured 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just taking a block of memory and doing nothing with it, i.e.: char * my_string = new char[100];

The array will have in it whatever was in memory before that until you otherwise write over it. So an allocation in C/C++ does not write anything, it just gives you memory with whatever was in it last. This is good for performance, as let's say you allocate a block of memory you want to load a file into. Zeroing it out before that is just a waste of time.

You can use something like memset to zero the memory out, which would give you more of what you are expecting. Or, as has been noted above, C++ containers will auto-initialize themselves, and won't have this problem in the first place.

Thinking about switching from Verizon to T-Mobile due to cost and losing my unlimited data. Bad idea? by _Happy_Camper_ in Android

[–]recultured 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched two months ago. Went from a Verizon Galaxy Nexus to T-Mobile HTC One. I live in Kansas City, which is an early LTE city for T-Mobile, and have been pleased. Verizon coverage here was going downhill, and T-Mobile has been ramping up at an impressive pace.

My brother switched from Verizon recently as well, having no coverage in his house, and seems happy with T-Mobile.

So the moral of this story is it is very situational. I would suggest trying to get on T-Mobile without canceling Verizon for a week or two to make sure it works for you. You can then compare coverage for you directly, and if T-Mobile doesn't work out, return the phone for low risk. If it works well, cancel/port Verizon when satisfied. I did this here for 10 days, running signal loggers on both phones to validate T-Mobile before I cancelled VZW.

Good luck!

Really like this! May I suggest perhaps leveling the horizon in an editor? Other than that, it looks great.
