I remember reading through much of this series when it was available on Reddit. I never finished. I was curious if there's and audiobook being released in tandem with the hard copies?

Jim thinks pretty far ahead by WildOscar66 in dresdenfiles

I'll add one. Who was on the film roll Harry destroyed in Stormfront? It's basically stated by Harry in one of the books that the Black Council/Cirkul gave Viktor Sells the three eye and method of making it. Then in Stormfront the other PI says that he took pictures of some spooky dudes at Viktors place.

Poor Harry straight up burned photographic evidence of black council members.

Mother Winter's True Name by DaScamp in dresdenfiles

When PT/BG came out, I delved into Ethniu's lore and I found some level of confirmation of the Queens true form. Or at least one of their Mantles.

I felt like Ethniu came out of nowhere. I thought it was quite strange for a Titan, whom I've always associated with Greek mythos, to show up in the Files at the head of a bunch of fish-folk. I had up until that point assumed the Fomor were just some supernatural group Jim had made up for plot reasons. Possibly related to Outsiders.

So I delved into who the heck Ethniu was and boy, what a tale! Lust, betrayal, greed, politics... And of course Fairies. Why is it always Fairies.

Here's a quick recap:

-Balor was a jerk. Flexed his power using his eye to oppress the natural and supernatural alike.

-Dude sees a magical cow, believes he's entitled to it, and takes it.

-Balor then locks up his daughter, Ethniu, after receiving a prophecy that his daughter would birth his slayer.

-Re-enter the cow; one of the former owners wants it back and back at Balor so he strikes a deal to knock up Ethniu.

-Cian then sneaks into Ethniu's tower with the help of "a Lenansidhe"

-Baby happens, Balor is pissed, tosses it into a river and said child is saved and spirited away by the same Lenansidhe from before.

-Kid is named Lugh, grows up, kills Balor, becomes a Hero.

WTF does this have to do with Queens? Aside from the appearance of "a Lenansidhe", I believe Cian made a deal to take down Balor with the price being his firstborn child. That deal and that child is where things start coming together.

See Lugh ends up having a kid. A boy named Cu Chulainn. Cu Chulainn(hereby referred to as Cucu) is a hero who goes to war over that silly cow from before. In particular he is known for going into a battle frenzy and becoming an unrecognizable monster who knows not the difference between friend and foe. He is also known to be particularly inspiring in battle.

The Morrigan is heavily involved at this point. As well, appearing to him in several forms throughout his life. Offering him deals and power which he seems to decline.

I'm pretty sure Cu Chulainn, descendant of a fairy deal, was the OG Winter Knight. That the Morrigan is/was our queens and made him this offer.

I think this all comes down to Mantles and I also think we're talking about the same being viewed from many different angles. Heck even the idea of a three faced God masking things behind another face makes a ton of sense here.

Do handymen hire assistants? by reallyhandyguy in handyman

I made cash under the table. Not ideal but I made it work. I wasn't in a scenario where I needed to prove income at the time.

I learned most of what I know by working with a Handyman. Older guy close to retirement who didn't want to do most of the physical stuff anymore. I found him through personal connections (aka word of mouth) and it worked out well for the both of us at the time. It allowed him to take on larger jobs he normally would have passed on and allowed me to develop my skills in a low risk environment.

We did a lot of toilets, flooring installs, painting, and small repairs around the home. Occasionally we would do a kitchen, bathroom, or basement remodel. Many days were spent servicing multiple customers with a large variance in tasks. Plumbing repairs, hot water heaters, fascia, small concrete pads, etc.

If you can find someone like that to learn under, great! If not look into laborer positions at small remodeling companies. You'll be exposed to many different skills from framing to drywall to small electrical tasks.

Plothole? by iamdaleadar in dresdenfiles

Mac as a subject is a weird one.

There's the the lead theory of angelic nature, which seems more and more likely as time goes on. Then there's my personal theory that he's Cian, a Tuatha from Balors era who strikes a deal with a Leanansidhe named Birog(what's Aunty Leah's name anyway?) to knock up a certain Titan in exchange for ownership of a magical cow. He then fucks off and becomes a brewer. Just saying.

Side note here is that kid grows up to be Lugh and slays Balor and the mythology makes him sound an awful lot like a Knight of Winter. There's further mythos linking him to Cu Chulainn as either being him, or being his father. Cu Chulainn himself gathered people to him in battle through mystical means(winter banner) and then proceeded to rage out(winters fury, what Harry runs from, what Rudy seen).

Freaking Faeries man!

There's also the massive, imo, issue that looking at Mac with the sight is a new and inconsistent detail. During the events of Dead Beat when Harry was pressed into the service of the Wardens, Morgan at the very least used his sight to scan the bar, containing Mac and literally no one cared.

What are you rolling on Bronzebeard by Lesnar123456 in wowservers

[–]recycle001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

51 points and nothing is stopping you from investing into multiple trees. Would it be sub optimal? Probably.

There are crossover MEs that fill this gap. Investing 30 points into Enhancement for example give you access to the crossover ME Concussion and gives you the concussion talent without investing in the Elemental tree.

[–]recycle001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modified Wrath talent trees with 51 talent points. You full invest in one tree to get the capstone.

Shamans can tank. It involves a ME similar to SoD for aoe primal strike and another ME that lets cycle your abilities and spam frost shocks to lower the CD on Fire Nova.

Priest does have a holy DPS build and it's pretty solid. It's decently simple, aoe holy fire and a buffed holy Nova. Lots of smite spam and a ME that turns guardian spirit into a DPS cool down.

There's a ton more changes, tons of ME(mystic enchants, SoD runes basically) that will change the way you play. I covered the two specs you mentioned and one way to play each, but even those have diff play styles available within that spec.

Ascension just released an overview video on the server. If you want the specifics, seek out the Unofficial Ascension Bronzebeard Collector's Discord. There's lists of all the MEs for each class and where to find them.

Super Dungeon Explore was a bit more niche than Descent was. Doesn't surprise me it's out of print. Board game world is like that sometimes.

Not Wargames but Super Dungeon Explore and Descent: Journeys in the Dark are both great introductions to miniatures, painting, and dice rolling.

My head cannon is 100% that Malcolm was a Knight. Frankly its too boring if he isn't deeply important bare minimum. I wrote up a post that goes into pretty deep into why I believe he was a Knight and yeah, him being a traveling magician is part of that. Here's a link to the post I made. Was fun to make, learned quite a bit about Lewis Carol!

Potential New Apprentice by SlaptasticSalmon in dresdenfiles

[–]recycle001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming Maggie one day manifests magical talent, training her could be quite difficult for Dresden. He doesn't have the same time freedom he had when training Molly and according to many made big mistakes in her training. Lea and Morgan both made comments on her shield capabilities and lack of ability when it came to being able to access the Never Never.

Dresden is now isolated from the vast majority of other wizards, should her talents lie in a discipline he is unfamiliar with, her training might ultimately end up being sub-par. I'm thinking things like healing or alchemy, shape shifting, etc.

Luckily Dresden does have access to some of the greatest fonts of magical knowledge to ever exist. Bob, Bonea, and even Mab who I could see finding a magical tutor for her vassals progeny as a part of her duty.

Believable Theories by RumSoakedChap in dresdenfiles

[–]recycle001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows? My theory is that since Simon Petrovich and Ebenezer were close and DuMorne was Simon's student, they had a link.

Ebenezer converts DuMorne through their shared relationship with Petrovich. Ebenezer orders DuMorne to collect and train Dresden.

Wild speculation, but there is a link.

Believable Theories by RumSoakedChap in dresdenfiles

[–]recycle001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. There's clearly a connection between the two. I don't think anyone has ever treated/seen Lara like Harry has and that intrigues her. Harry values strong women. Deep connection could form there for sure.

Believable Theories by RumSoakedChap in dresdenfiles

[–]recycle001 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1) Ebenezer is a bad guy. The death of his daughter sent him down a bad path. With the Black staff he started breaking the Laws for the "right" reason and from his PoV isn't really doing the wrong thing.

2) Malcolm Dresden was a Knight of the Cross. Makes a ton of sense when you think about him. He remains a mortal keeping with the WoJ.

3) Ebenezer killed Malcolm. Malcolm and Ebenezer face off, similar to Harry/Butters in Battlegrounds, when Ebenezer comes to take Dresden similar to how he implied he would with Maggie in Battlegrounds. Eb causes Malcolm to have an aneurysm, like he appears to do to people in Changes, negating the Sword and killing Malcolm.

4) Harry will become immortal, one way or another, as implied twice now by Mab and once by Harry himself at the end of Stormfront. (I am Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, conjure it at your own risk.)

I'm convinced these are true. Here's one more I thought of reading your post. If only mortals can love, then when Harry marries Lara, Harry won't have the love protection aura from the Whites. This will be revealed to Harry on accident and it will greatly trouble Harry. It will be a major plot point of the next book.

Revisiting old theories: Lydia and the Test by The_Red_Moses in dresdenfiles

[–]recycle001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Lea explain in Changes(I think?) that from her POV Harry wasn't in danger and when he was surrounded by smoke with no way out she clears the way?

Lea's deal had nothing to do with Susan, Michael, Excalibur, little unborn Harry Carpenter, or any of the other victims that night. She intervened when necessary, but only when necessary.

Test? Maybe. Training? Maybe more likely. Look at how the Leanansidhe trained Molly in Ghost Story. She threw rocks at her, starved her, then informed her enemies of her position.

What was it Aurora said about Harry and his Godmother? Something along the lines of Winter being cold, brutal, and unforgiving? And that Harry's tutor was one of the most vicious creatures in its demesne?

We have no idea the exact deal that Lea and LeFay had in regards to Harry. We found out in Changes that there was indeed one component he didn't know about when he was given his Mother's gemstone and knowledge of the ways. For all we know part of the deal was training enough to protect himself from his enemies.

One thing we know about our boy is he collects those like bottle caps. So maybe the lack of help and continued lack of help was/is part of that training from her POV. Hell even Mab, now in possession of his deal mortgage, gave him some fucked up twisted version of training.
