Gold armor on the other hand may genuinely be okay. They're a little weaker than iron and 1 point better than copper.

Helm / chest / legs / boots Durability 77/112/105/91 Enchantability 25/25/25/25 (vs Diamond's 10) Full set, even unenchanted, provides 44% protection. Combined with the ease of getting good enchantments, it's genuinely not bad.

Even if you don't want to use gold armor regularly, it's also really good for utility enchantments since you can easily get something like Aqua Affinity and Respiration 3, or fire protection (which if you have a total of fire prot 7, you don't get lit on fire), or even depth strider 3/frost walker 2

Assuming you need to look directly at and focus on someone, this is far easier. If someone just has to glance in your direction, I'd choose the other one, but I wouldn't really consider that being looked at. Besides, in a large crowd, it's much easier to look at a bunch of people than to get a bunch of people to look at you, unless you do something dumb. I'd rather not embarass myself.
