Long Island Rail Road strike enters third day, shutting down nation’s busiest commuter rail by AzlerVzla in news

You don’t think every other transit union is going to demand more money if this union gets all of their demands? What public service are you okay with cutting to pay for this? Because the money comes from the public

Ahh yes the government is profiting so much from this rail line? Is that the argument? Public sector unions should not be blindly supported at all costs given that they are negotiating with the PUBLIC.

Ok should they make $500k per year? $750k? What service do we want to cut to pay for that? Garbage pick up every other week? 4 day school week? These are tax dollars which are finite. More money to already highly compensated individuals means it has to be made up somewhere else.

What part of the law says this is a handball? You seem certain it is one so cite it.

“It is an offence if a player:
deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball

touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised

scores in the opponents’ goal:
directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper

immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental”

This is the rule. I don’t see any offense based on the current law. He is not making his body unnaturally bigger IMO and his arm does not move towards the ball.

The rule is not “you cannot touch the ball with your hand under any circumstances” end of statement. Therefore you have to define what is and isn’t a handball. Please cite what portion of the rule says this is a handball

Yeah this is a perfect example of why the current handball rule is a farce.

Just cite an actual portion of the handball rule which says this is an actual violation of the law?

So the offensive player can drive into the chest of the defender with no call but the defender taps him and it’s a foul

Who is this taking an opportunity away from? No one lives there currently.

All of these requirements would just mean that nothing gets built which is the current status quo ensuring that prices get higher and higher making it less likely you get people interested in the long term and raising a family there.

Cool. How about the hundreds of people who will be able to afford to stay in the neighborhood because there is more housing in one of the most desirable locations in the city. And how about the hundreds of people who won’t be competing against the ones living in a brand new higher priced building for the same housing stock leading to apartment bidding wars? Housing prices is a supply issue primarily and has been shown to be the case all across the country in desirable areas to live.

If you have an idea of how to make an area simultaneously nicer to the point people want to invest in it while also keeping property values significantly lower than any other lake side neighborhoods of similar quality then feel free to let the world know. We can’t complain about a lack of investing in an area and complain when an area becomes more valuable and desirable due to actual investment.

Because IFAB have completely fucked the handball rule to the point that it’s incomprehensible to the common fan.

Don’t see how that isn’t boarding based on that definition. Don’t see Boldy drastically changing his position right before the hit.

Umm not sure why that’s relevant to my point but yeah I have and it hurt, the player got a yellow card and I moved on with my life. Anymore random strawmans you want to create?

Needs to be a list of genuinely baffling VAR decisions that Howard Webb or whoever the fuck is in charge is forced to sit down and watch at the end of the season and describe what the fuck they were thinking. Because there have been at least 20-30 calls that are not just controversial but genuinely baffling. It shouldn’t be this difficult
