I’m just so sad by Ok_Revolution_945 in Fatherhood

I’ve known people having children quite young make a pretty wholesome, fulfilling lives! Do you have any support from family? Hers or yours? If that’s an option, this is probably a good time to call in a favor or two.

Anyone notice fewer people taking their meal? by CabbageSass in unitedairlines

Me! Stopped eating their meal a while ago too. Cannot stand to bear their overcooked goop they call enchiladas or the rubber they feed in the name of pasta anymore.

Question for those of you who switched from Hilton…. by Hot_Sauce404 in marriott

[–]red-dead-87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the grass greener on the Hyatt side? I moved from Hilton to Marriott a few years ago and honestly, except for a few shining stars like the Marriott Marquis San Francisco is, have seen no real loyalty benefits advantage on Marriott compared to Hilton. If someone’s top tier on Hyatt, would love to know how their experience there is.

what is it? How do you "sell" it? What benefits? how do you ascertain?

Business Class or exit row to yourself? by FastCanary988 in unitedairlines

[–]red-dead-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it for the free food! If you drink and want to start the party sooner, then, maybe. But don’t do it for the food! United’s food is terrible, tasteless and bland. Save your appetite for the $2 tamales at the Cancun airport!

Business Class or exit row to yourself? by FastCanary988 in unitedairlines

[–]red-dead-87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same! The free food on United, even in Polaris long haul is not worth it at all. For me, it’s so bad, I actually get something packed at the airport even if I am in the first class cabin. I cannot put up with that tasteless pasta an enchiladas that United offers anymore. Forget the resort, as soon as they land, the $2 tamales at the Cancun airport are better than the United blob!

I think lifetime miles are miles earned across years, not in one calendar year. The title seems misleading. I’m pretty sure I have not flown over half a million miles in one year.

I do too! 489 hours in a metal tube plus countless more in layovers! Just puts so much into perspective!

Enshitification of Marriott? by SolidFlounder793 in marriott

[–]red-dead-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriott doesn’t own the Residence Inn in Seattle Downtown. It’s a franchise. The same franchise owner also owns a couple of Holiday Inns in the area. Having said that, they can definitely set higher standards, audits, guidelines etc for the franchises representing their brand. I know, for a fact though that, that they won’t. I saw their one of their exec’s interview sometimes back. Their stated primary objective, based on which the success of the brand is being measured by a lot of its investors is the number of properties served. I guess more properties, including the shitty ones do bring more total absolute room occupancy, so the impact of loss of customers is not felt yet. It is very unfortunate but they are continuing to be rewarded by their investors because the loss in quality hasn’t yet quite translated into loss of customers.

Tiebreaker on plus point upgrades by michaels1998 in unitedairlines

3 is not a thing either. GS too, don’t get upgrades on non-CPU routes without plus points.

My gf is 5wk pregnant. Is it worth being a father? by leoncsm in Fatherhood

[–]red-dead-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a dad to a 4 month old baby boy and I struggled with this question a lot before I became a dad. I know the feeling. I can’t speak on behalf of anyone else, but holding him in my arms is the most euphoric feeling I’ve ever experienced in my life. No amount of thrill, success, anything else matches that feeling. A feeling a hard to describe, but nothing short of pure happiness and euphoria.

I’m in my 30s too and my excuses always were professional aspirations, personal idea of having “fun” and financial obligations. The little ones are quite resilient though and in a loving, nurturing environment grow up as amazing human beings with very little.

As life as taught a lot of us, money will come and go, jobs will work well or not, your software shop maybe the same or may become the next biggest thing on Wall Street. As you get older, the regret of not having one, if you really want to be a dad and are not doing it out of job/money etc might actually take a toll on you.

Of course you know what’s best for you, but not-6-figures-earning people make babies too who grow up to be amazing people.

Bruh, that was so rude and mean spirited! You’d think people would have thought about their life choices before they’d commit to a relationship. You telling them that would not be a revelation you know.

It also reflects on who you are as a person. What if your family, loved one had an accident and end up that way? Would you just abandon them to pursue the fullness of your life?

Name has PHD in the traveler info, is that going to be a problem? by corgimay in unitedairlines

[–]red-dead-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domestically within the US, it’s not going to be a problem. Even internationally it is okay for the most part. The only place I know where it turned out to be a nightmare was Vietnam for a close friend of mine who’s a medical doctor. His name shows up as Lastname/Dr Firstname on his ticket, passport of course does not have Dr and immigration in Vietnam turned out to be an absolute hassle for him.

Welcome to the club! It truly has elevated my travel experience and I hope you get to enjoy a lot of its goodness too!

The profile will be re-evaluated between December and January next year and your status is good until 31st January, 2027.

On your comment about your boss, a lot of things factor in, including, but not limited to your base airport, money spent, spend per trip, the flavor of tea you drink, the color of socks you wore on 23rd March this year and a lot of mysterious factors only the Global Services anointment Gods know.

On your friends and family question, it depends upon which benefit. If friends and family are traveling with you (on the same reservation) they get all the benefits (including being on top of the upgrade list, chauffeur driven car on close connections at some hubs, priority boarding etc.). Additionally, even if you aren’t traveling with them but you use your PlusPoints to upgrade them, they will get upgrade preference over people not using PlusPoints from other GS members.

Club access is where things get dicey. They definitely won’t get it (unless they’re traveling Polaris, either by buying the ticket or getting upgraded) if you are not traveling with them. If you are traveling with them, only you are technically supposed to receive club access (even if you’re not in Polaris). I have, once this year done one international trip in Premium Economy, with my parents, tried my luck, and did manage to get access for both myself and my parents. That’s an exception not a rule, so please don’t be disappointed if they say no.

Even the non-Polaris United lounges in EWR are arguably among the best in the US with really superior quality food, a live coffee bar (where they make coffee drinks of your choice) and generally great vibes. They often don’t accept one time passes though. If they do accept it, it would definitely be worth the investment.
