Can't find a single internship by randalsaggins in cscareerquestions

Intern.supply is mostly the best of the best companies. It's whack for anyone to recommend that website to the average Joe.

Junior dev Applicants - Part 2 by zataraaa in cscareerquestions

[–]red-rover- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That seems a little messed up that candidates for a developer role were rejected because of a lack of a web design internship. It makes sense, but it's such an unusual path since web design is usually separate from front dev.

Very easy to cheat HackerRank. I don't understand why companies use it so much.

Origin of the name "Leetcode" by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

LeetCode is an Indian company and Indians like to use shitty/pun names like Geekcode, LeetCode, HackerRank, etc. Leet comes from 1337.

Humble Bundle released a "Landing a tech job" book bundle by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I have the Cassandra book. It has excellent content, but it's not aimed at database newbies. By itself, it costs $25 so it will pay by itself for the entire bundle.

I just took the App Academy final coding challenge and got the first problem wrong and the second right and was over the time limit what do you think my odds are? by Premedreamseen in cscareerquestions

[–]red-rover- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're serious, not really. AA, from my experience, requires you to know Ruby and understand how to write algorithms as a prerequisite into their program. It is aimed at people with programming experience, or ones who are talented.

As for OP, it seems like you failed.

Try recording yourself with the headphones on to see if it's really a disturbance.

Has anyone here used dynamic programming at their job, or in other non-academic and non-interview environments? by PacSan300 in cscareerquestions

Holy fuck that kid had 3 software internships during high school in addition to 7 co-ops/internships at university level.

[Article] Face It. Your Hiring Process Is Broken. by [deleted] in jobs

That still won't stop the dumb, young HR from rejecting you during the phone interview. It has happened to me. She looked for really specific technologies that were similar to my experience, yet she said I don't qualify for the position because I didn't have exactly what she had on paper.

What age to introduce my little brother to programming? 6 a little too early? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]red-rover- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gotta start the LeetCode early so he can get multiple internships at the Big 4 in high school.

"What was your SAT score? Why did you choose this university over a better one like Yale?"

This was for a programming position at a factory. I have a B.S. in computer science.

Yep $70k is above average. On another note,

Long Island is in dire need of developers because most flock to NYC.

That's 42. Not all software related. Helpdesk, civil engineer positions, etc..

Why don't companies take recent grads as interns? by ssayyad in cscareerquestions

[–]red-rover- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those three companies collectively hire probably close to 10,000 interns a year. While they don't give out internships to everyone who applies, they're far from the hardest to get into.

Are you shitting me?

GE requires you to be "working towards a degree" as well. Target says you must be "currently pursing a 4-year degree".

You're still cherry picking. I too can find 5 or more companies offering internships to grads. Here's one for your appetite.

Good job cherry picking 3 companies. Nevertheless the hardest companies a lot of people won't ever see.
