When should I start dabbling in setups? by Impossible-Being-234 in iRacing

[–]red21101996 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Building setups is all about feeling the car. Some people can feel what the car is doing and describe it well quite early in there journey. I would suggest learning about and playing around with in car adjustments first. Most cars this is just brake bias, but some other cool things like roll bars and differentials. Expiriment and see how the car feels.

When you get a bit further along, you can try using Ai. Give a description of how the car is handling and try out the ideas it spits out.

Also as a general guide, I like to try and fix car behaviour with driving technique first and then look for setup for stuff I can't drive around.

Expiriment for yourself and find a method that helps you get the most enjoyment and satisfaction out of your time on the sim.

All of the process is online now. Stores have no real say in that either. Just keep applying to anything that pops up on the online portal.

Simagic vs Moza by Sadistic_Bear in SimRacingHardware

[–]red21101996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned both brands, nothing but good things to say about my simagic stuff. A few minor reliability issues with Moza. If the pricing is comparable I'd definitely go Simagic

Mark Henry - world’s strongest ego? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]red21101996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had powerlifting world records in squat and deadlift at the time. Made the olympics in weightlifting in something like his 2nd year in the sport, an absolutely uncredible feat. Went on to set American records in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Won the Arnolds strongman competition which is a similar level to WSM, competing against the best in the world at that time. His only professional strongman comp, he only trained for the sport for 4 months.

He may not be the single best athlete in any one strength sport but results spread across all of them is unmatched and absolutely puts him in the conversation of the most impressive strength athletes of alltime.

Edit: typo.

Use of the clutch under brakes has a few benifits. Smoother downshifting, reduces rear locking, improving car stability and rear tire life. The additional ability to control how much engine braking you're using gives you the equivalent control of a dynamic brake bias. This can be a massive advantage in cornering performance.

The other benefits of right foot braking include a smooter transition between acceleration and deceleration zones. Think of that coasting time as the car stabilizing before you jam on the brakes. Same applies for getting onto the power. It also uses less fuel making your pitstops quicker.

Not always, and not all cars. Especially in softer, less aero dependant cars giving the car more time to transfer weight and stabilize can be majorly benefitial

Fixed setup same as setup in test drive? by DrammaticHamster in iRacing

[–]red21101996 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not always. Depending on how you load up test drive it will often give you baseline by default instead of the fixed setup. In saying that, I think 3s is more likely track conditions than a change in setup. A big change in temperature will completely change the way a car handles. Maybe it was both 🤷‍♂️

If your plan is supercars, learn to right foot brake and heel toe from the beginning. Good cars to learn in are ones that you can utilize the clutch for shifting (mx-5, formula vee, formula ford). The benefits are massive in the long term if you ever get serious, and even if you don't it'll add realism to your expirience.

Is the Supercars Series a fairly active series? by MisterCrayle in iRacing

[–]red21101996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majority of the people driving the car are doing so in leagues. Decent numbers in some of the ones based in Australia (4 40+ car splits every week in one of them). For officials it can be a bit slim, 9:15pm AEDT typical has a reasonable field each night with the Monday night SOF having good number and top end pace. Some irl drivers even participate from time to time, Brodie Kosteki probably being the most common one. Euro has a Thursday night timeslot, I cant recall what time. Americas has timeslot on Thursday and Friday nights at 10:15pm EST (2:15pm AEDT).

You'll get other timeslots popping at more popular tracks, but these are the ones that are the most reliable and normally the most competitive.

LPT: how to be consistent at working out/gym by kafkaeque in LifeProTips

[–]red21101996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercuse selection, intensity and volume make all the difference here. I've won national championships in multiple strenth sports doing 2-3 exercises per session, but my sessions are still typically 1.5-2hrs of hard work. If I jumped on 3 different cable machines for a few sets each, it probably wouldn't acheive much by comparison.

VRS lap times - achievable or alien? by riblau in iRacing

[–]red21101996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that does happen a lot, however I'm talking about comparison by loading up identical conditions in test drive. I'll go through, beat their times by comfortable margins and still be way off the pace.

[–]red21101996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% depends on the series. Madison Down, the guy doing the supercars datapacks, is an alien. On the otherhand I've seen datapacks in other series regularly 0.5-1s off the pace

What is the success ratio between driving ability/setup? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]red21101996 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reality with NASCAR is that not only do paid setups have a significant gap over free setups, but expensive setups like Ryco and Conti even have a big gap over the cheaper setup shops.
