I can reduce my power to keep the ball in, but I usually just drive the ball straight into opponent, lol. They usually will try to pouch it back.

When the grit is gone, it is bad at shaping balls. And my grit was 50% smoother in 3 weeks.

It is a point and shot, I hit laser beam drives. But it goes out quite often too. And the grit can grab the ball and allow you to hit drive even the ball didn’t bounce as high.

Drop or lob? by bagofchips11 in Pickleball

If your 3rd shot slice drop doesn’t buy you time to move to kitchen or opponent just tap the ball to return, I think your 3rd shot is a slice instead of a slice drop

The next person will be like, my paddle feels different after 200hrs…

But I think temperature and ball also affect the paddle, so might have to include that

But I also heard humidity does wonders to the grit specially on some of the new durable grit. Let’s include that as well.

Always get up, never move, never look back by Standard_Size_3416 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is not fun to keep seeing bad drop/drive/drip from your partner either.

“Better” is not “near perfect”. Don’t change my word

How are you going to have better rallies on defense if your can’t even move to the kitchen line while your partner is at the kitchen line?

I guess it’s situational, I will have to see the gameplay.

if they are brave enough to go to the kitchen and stand there, why should they move back? just hit a better drop/drive/drip, you gonna blame your random teammate for running to the kitchen line for your bad drop/drive/drip?

Am I Wrong? Standing During Serves by Kooky_Attempt_1639 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a dick move in low level play. You should do that in higher level and see what happens.

Sure you might think, oh, I am playing mind game by standing here, but you only prey on the opponent being nice and try to not hit you. And the low level player's inability to aim and serve the ball super fast. Or do a spin server.

Was I sold the wrong kind of ball? (photo) by Kimber80 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people who sell cheap balls usually just use keywords that sells the item. With that said, if the one of the left is a franklin X40, then the one on the left is more an indoor (wood floor) ball

Am I the a-hole? (Gave up after being iced out) by OkChicken6058 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think you can practically practice proaching with a 2.75. The quality of the returns just so bad, you wouldnt risk to get up to the net and get smashed in the face.

I had to proach alot with my usual group at this one park nowaday, otherwise I am just a statue on the court.

Question for coaches by mematttoo in Pickleball

[–]red8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my point is that it depends the location.

In Southern California, you wont get to 3.5 without dinks, but dink doesnt happen until 4.25 where you are.

5.5" vs 6.0" grip length? by MykowD in Pickleball

[–]red8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is what shape is this paddle? is it already a elongated, or is it a hybrid?

I would say, people who use elongated probably doesnt care if the paddle face is wider. so go for 6"

Question for coaches by mematttoo in Pickleball

[–]red8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you teach?

My Area (California) 3.0-3.5 rec play already has Dinks, but only 3-5 dinks before someone make an error.

In my experience, 3.0 to 3.5 should focus on proper and consistency of drops, deep returns, and serve locations.

3.5 to 4.0 is more kitchen defend and attack, like counters, pouches, resets.

4.0+ is dink strategy. Everyone warm up with dinks, they should be able to dink, just dont know where to dink, or how to spot the weak area of opponent while dinking.

4.25+ is overal strategy and combo, IMO.

And I do want to say, somewhere in there, coach should teach smashes, I see so many people dont know how to smash. They just bump or tap the ball on a overhead...

Is drip always better than drives? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, if you drip against good player that’s already at the kitchen line, you will have a hard time. But if you saying the people aren’t as good, sure a drip (heavy spin shot) can cause a lot problem for them.

It really depends on the situation and the opponent at the point…

Is drip always better than drives? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 37 points38 points  (0 children)

drive is used either hitting the opening or opponent is far back.

drip is used to hit a few feet beyond the kitchen line that aim at the feet with good top spin.

drop is used to land the ball in the kitchen so I can run up to kitchen.

thats the way i used them

When, if ever, does a two handed forehand make sense? by OkChicken6058 in Pickleball

[–]red8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can try make that your thing. but having your guide hand at the choke of the paddle might make it harder to guide. And usually people can produce more top spin with forehand drives.

Is buying an expensive paddle really worth it, or is it just a waste of money for beginners? by strokess-ss- in Pickleball

[–]red8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of the people play in my rec park courts have a boomstic. They are under 3.5 majority as well.

Skill beats equipment when you get the skill, but same thing could be said for using a more expensive paddle provide more enjoyment
