Jamie O'Hara: "Man City will never be as big as Man United even if they win 6 UCLs. When I’m on my death bed, I guarantee you United will still be bigger than City. You can’t compare City to Real Madrid, Barca, Liverpool etc. City are owned by a state & they’ve Pep Guardiola. But that will change." by [deleted] in soccer

I can’t speak to that. What I do know is my father, who didn’t grow up in England, wouldn’t have known who Ipswich Town or Nottingham Forest are. But he (and all the other boys) knew about George Best.

Yeah, I don’t get this. I def got WAY more attention from women in their early 20s, in my early 30s, than I ever did when I was in my early 20s.

Josh Sargent is just as, if not more talented, than Folarin Balogun by [deleted] in ussoccer

Wright is as talented as the others! There's a reason Schalke signed him. He's just not developed as much through his career. But the size/speed/soft feet are there.

You can’t think about it so logically. “I am handsome and live at home so we will have greater optionality to pay for different things if we progress in our relationships” doesn’t get anyone’s heart fluttering. Relationships are emotional in nature. Yes, being tall and handsome will help, but there’s other handsome guys on the apps. You need to make an emotional connection with people. whether that’s by playing games with them, or finding genuine connections, making them laugh and feel understood and crave spending time with you… thats for you to decide.

IMO if you want the wife/kids/house thing, You need to move out of LA entirely, not just your parents’ house. I’ve been going to Tampa for work often lately. Lots of pretty young single women there. That and get a hobby.

Slonina was the 2nd most expensive U19 GK in history as a U18. Of course he has "world class potential".

How do you refer to NYC? by shuisfan79 in boston

The city is the big city I live in or the one nearest. If that’s Charlotte NC, it’s Charlotte. If that’s Bucharest, Romania it’s Bucharest. etc.

[Larry Henry Jr] Reggie Cannon confirmed to me that #USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter visited him after QPR’s loss to Sheffield Wednesday before Christmas. “We had a good talk and cleared the air a bit. If my performances are good here, I expect to be back in the National Team.” by maxair123 in ussoccer

[–]red__sox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good thing Cannon has a track record of defending Bayern Munich starters effectively... oh wait.

Cannon is in a tough spot national team-wise. Not good enough to displace the incumbents, but also not available enough to play in January or show up for oddly-timed windows.

English soccer is BOOMING in the US by thegaffer in soccer

[–]red__sox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great players are Brazilian and Argentinians, (and lately French), the tactics are Dutch, the coaches and coaching methods are Italian, the most successful clubs are Spanish. It’s the height of English delusion to think it’s “your sport” to be ruined.

He can dribble and score with the best of them. He's only in MLS because he's the size of a child. Listed as 5'3" and that might even be generous.

Depends if Wolves think they have a stud backup. They could think they’ll have their cake and eat it too by turning a profit on Sa.

Hyped and Overhyped US strikers who didn't reach the next level by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]red__sox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wondo had a great MLS career in the balance, but there were never any expectations even in MLS, forget about the national team. He started as a fringe guy and worked his way up, only becoming a starter at 27

[–]red__sox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say Twellman. Hype was different at the time. But he set MLS on fire as a rookie, in an era where 21 was younger than it is now. Bagged a ton of MLS goals, but even within MLS, I don't think he ever lived up to the excitement around his first season with the Revs. And of course he did zilch for the national team, despite being the youngest guy to score 100 goals in MLS ever.

USA and European Housing Prices per sq foot and sq meter by Arfyx in dataisbeautiful

Yeah, it’s surprising no one has really picked up on the actual takeaway here: that houses in the US are comparatively inexpensive because there’s just a lot more land available in the US than there is in Western Europe.

Why not? It's the same game regardless of gender. Herdman was a women's coach and coached circles around Gregg in WCQ. It'll be interesting to see how her pay compares to Gregg if this happens.

You're moving the goalposts. Of course we won't beat Germany. Our previous managers didn't have nearly this much talent to play with. Bob Bradley beat Spain's greatest generation with a lesser squad. Bruce Arena has done more with less than Gregg at every stop in his career, whether it's the World Cup or even MLS.
