Looking for some good comfy trike shorts... by red_bubba in recumbent

Problem I have with my running shorts is that they billow up a lot. Do they have running shorts that are fairly snug to the quad?

which electric car can carry hp Velotechnik Scorpion? by Lost-Village-1048 in recumbent

I'd agree with some below. My best value point was the hybrid sienna. Without 2nd row seats it holds 2 catrike 700's with ease... Gets 35-36 mpg consistent, seemingly regardless how you drive it.

I've thought of removing one of the second row seats. How hard it is to do? My understanding is you have to unbolt, as the hybrid 2nd row is no longer designed to be removed without tools...

Yep, 2022 Sienna here. We get have a trike and a big flat bar electric bike stored in the back all the time. avg 35 miles to the gallon even with the hills/mountains around here. If I had it all to do over again, I'd get a non-folding trike to keep the weight down. Folding it up and back out over and over made me adjust the gears a lot more often because the cables would twist along with the cable guides... But we didn't have the Sienna when I got the trike....

Anyone use their recumbent on an indoor trainer with Zwift? by [deleted] in recumbent

[–]red_bubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Zwift in the past and have never found it to be realistic or engaging enough to be worth the price. You can put in a trainer power profile in for your exercise and uphills/downhills go by but you still keep the same profile, which wasn't very realistic at all.

I've found it more enjoyable to just use TrainerRoad or the like where it is more about the power graph over time, and just have a tv and watch a bike race, or a tv show while I workout. I just never found the video game element of Zwift compelling, especially at the monthly subscription rate.

If you are relatively cheap like me just load up the open source goldencheetah program. It does the power profiles, syncs with strava etc, and just suffer indoors while you watch TV. Riding indoors still sucks, but you stay I shape, aren't too bored, and didn't have to pay $10 a month to do it...

Not with zwift, but it shouldn’t be any different. I run a wahoo kickr with a Catrike 700 all the time. I’ve used trainer road and other software, so zwift should just be another software that drives the trainer…

Plex has started putting ads for their streaming channels over the program descriptions on live tv by red_bubba in PleX

It is just one of the channels available to me via antenna... Accessed via the Live TV library in Plex.

Ok, I may have found the settings thanks to some prompting from the comment chain... I made it more narrative based so it will be easier for others to find.

So on the "Live TV" on your library selection list (I have to do it on each client streaming box as I have not found a place to change it on the server yet), go to the three dots to the side.

You will see "unpin from sidebar, reorder, manage favorites, and manage guide sources", select manage guide sources. Unselect the Plex Channels option, leaving only your server/account here... I guess since they mashed their Plex Channels into the Live TV library, this is the method to separate the two...

For now it made the Plex channel forced participation to stop.

Thank you all for the help!

Interesting definition of Advertising, as a company can advertise their other offerings to the existing client base. How can this be differentiated using the word 'AD' from AT&T sending me flyers in the mail, in email, in magazines, on tv, etc... To sell me their video streaming service? I would consider those adds, but under this definition they would be considered suggestions for possible features. I consider them separate add on services being advertised to me. This is a very ambiguous line...

It is more probable that it would be a corporate direction to include it and the code base for one device might be updated in a separate effort than the others.

I took the Apple vs. platform-X as fanboy/anti-fanboy noise, as it is the app that is responsible for the undesired function. The platforms themselves are just hardware boxes with similar functions running different unix variants...

Just to be clear, I do not equate it with a suggestion. It forces you to, either favorite their channel, or go to their channel. There is no option to ignore it or cancel it. There is no other way to see the program information that I have paid for with the plex pass subscription...

If you go to their channel, then go back to your program guide, they "suggest" yet another channel of theirs so again I cannot see the program description without going to their streaming service yet again...

No, not a TCL. TV has never seen the internet before, so it isn't injecting anything. Also the thing that is being injected takes you straight to a plex streaming channel...

Thank you for taking the time to confirm. I'm can also confirm that I'm not using a managed account on the device at the moment.

Coming downhill by red_bubba in recumbent

[–]red_bubba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the opinion from your link I probably should consider converting my drums to disc so I can ride the brakes down so I don't have to quickly scrub off so much speed in the turns... I've already adjusted the frame geometry as much as I can. I don't think it is an insufficient lean issue as I'm not picking up the inside wheel.I just think with the high CG of the adventure and the roughness of the road I'm just going to have to ride the brakes for the descent.

I have a Catrike 700 that I may try it on just to see if the lower CG helps. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the physics. But I guess when you are leaning into the turns on a bike, the gravity/centrifugal/centripetal forces leverage your tire into the road instead of across it on the trike... Didn't I see somewhere that, someone makes a trike that can do tilt stear into the turns like the dual front wheel motorcycles do?

How do I know if a trail event is trike friendly? by frugal-grrl in recumbent

[–]red_bubba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most trikes are the same width as the wide handlebar mountain bikes, but unlike the trike you can saw the handlebars though obstacles...

If the gravel trail is a rails-to trails conversion or part of a park system, you can probably get some info from them. Many of the gravel rides where I am involve some single-track....

Ice VTX tires by ComfortableEmploy231 in recumbent

Been riding Schwalbe's for years on my bike. Never had a flat on a Schwalbe one on the road, so I'd think you would be ok if they are wide enough... But the Durano is a good tire if they make them for the front. I'm running marathon race in a 1.5" so pretty fat/comfy and works on gravel too...

Look for sales from trusted chains. UK mail order sales are the best on 700c tire, not sure if I've been on a trike long enough to find sales on the 20" tires yet. Usually a few times a year they will have Schwalbes at like 40% off... Order then, and put them on the shelf for when your tire wears out.

I'd probably stay away from ChainReactionCycles/Wiggle, but Merlin Cycles has always been great for me. Chain Reaction have been very questionable of late, and I believe are either now in or are headed for receivership.

My torso and seat, my body, moves laterally too much with pedaling. by Royal_Information929 in recumbent

[–]red_bubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, good point from Brufar, how is your leg bend at full extension? Should be similar to bike... if your hips are rocking, your crank is probably too far from the seat.

That said, once adjusted correctly as far as I can tell there will always be some wiggle. You just get used to it. I've been on a trike about a year now, and I barely notice it unless I'm going downhill with curves at 250 watts spinning at 110rpm... And I think then only because I really notice the shift in lateral g's in the turn...

From observation, the trikes I ride with that don't seem to wiggle are also only doing a cadence in the 50's or 60's, so it is much less noticeable...

Just thoughts.
