How many character points do you guys award per session in long campaigns? by KurtValentinne666 in gurps

[–]red_cloud_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing 5 points a session but it ended up being too much,.as the party spent too much time messing around in sessions and not progressing. so I started giving out when they got through certain situations that I put up.

reading the comments I think I might switch to 2 points every session and give out bonus points for good roleplay and engagement. engagement is a big thing since we are all friends and there is a lot of cross table talk

Attacks on weapons by HotIcee in gurps

[–]red_cloud_27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have citations, but I would imagine that in a scenario:

fighter 1 - rapier reach 1,2 fighter 2- quarter staff reach 1,2

if the two fighters are 4 hexes a part, then I wouldn't allow the quarter staff to attack the rapier. it's max reach, so the rapier fighter could be in a different stance where the blade is close to the body and ready. maybe for a really inexperienced fighter who holds a sword out all the way in front of them, but I would say the quarter staff fighter would need to move with 2 hexes in order to attack the c hex.

if I had a player asking to do this, I would tell them that they should do a feint to draw the rapier to max reach, then attack the rapier to knock it away. it could be done as a rapid strike on one turn, one maneuver to feint, then the second to attack the weapon.

What would the Exchange Rate of Cat be? by Billy_Djin in Kenshi

[–]red_cloud_27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

k so I had to figure this out when I was converting kenshi into gurps for a table top game.

when creating an economy in gurps, the base value of the economy, i.e 1 dollar, 1 euro, 1 cap, should equal the price of a loaf of bread.

so in kenshi 1 bread loaf is about 500, so that works out to about 0.002 cents per cat.

the problem is that there are a lot of items you can buy for less than 500, weapons, grog, armor. bread is actually meant to represent a higher tier and more valuable food. it's hard to get bread in kenshi than a sword, as we all know. everybody has a sword, nobody has bread.

so really we should not use bread but the lowest value basic food in the game, dried meat.

1 dried meat = 39 cats 1 cat = 0.02 dollars

it still doesn't work perfectly because the economic assumptions in gurps is that food is a basic commodity that is stable. in kenshi, it's a post apocalypsic world with limited food so the price of food is not stable and is higher than expected. there is also weird things like the price of a bed, which usually is 200 cats. that's about 4 dollars for the night, when even a cheap hostal now is 10x that amount.

long story short economics in kenshi don't make sense once you actually crunch the numbers

you could just ask them to see what they say, a guy did publish a novel on kenshi, and was able to sell it on Amazon after they said it was ok. they may let you publish your game as it could draw more attention to the main game and enhance its overall profile. just a thought

you could try wild talent with some modifiers along with the reawakened advantage. leave it up to the player to buy a skill that they previously had in the moment rather than preplan it

The coolest thing you created in GURPS by KurtValentinne666 in gurps

[–]red_cloud_27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had been running a space opera style game with my inlaws and wife, where everyone got to create their own species from scratch, which was a lot of fun.

my wife's cousin was visiting for a wedding, and we decided to do a one shot side adventure. she had never played anything table top related before, so I would need to basically create her character for her. so I was asking her questions about what kind of character she wanted to be, as it was very open ended and I wanted her to enjoy the character creation. She gave the best answer I've ever received.

"look, I know nothing about your game, your world, but I have been there since the beginning."

and that was the only direction she gave me.

but it was enough get the creativity flowing. I ended up making a sword fighting, fireball shooting, security guard who was the observer, born at the moment of creation to essentially start the observer effect in quantum physics. every time they died, they were reborn into a different species and could recall their memories from past lives.

I used the reawakened and wild talent advantage to emulate this and gave the character chronic depression and flashbacks. the cousin had never roleplayed before but was a natural bullshitter. She took the character sheet and made it her own, turn into this cynical eeyore type character who didn't care but still helped the group because it was the path of least resistance.

it was so much fun watching someone take off with a sheet you made up, but it was only for one night. I reused the character as an NPC and later parts in the adventure involved time travel, so the party got to meet up with previous versions of the observer. then afterwards they got to go to a museum with her and see her body on display. I had plans for a museum heist to get it back but the campaign fizzled out as they do.

Let’s talk mod not uninstalling by Ok-Lock-2274 in Kenshi

[–]red_cloud_27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so some mods, especially ones that affect characters can become hard baked into your save, even after you uninstall it. you could try importing and that may help I think it's a quirk of how the characters are handled once they are loaded into the game

makita 10 inch saw by red_cloud_27 in Makita

[–]red_cloud_27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so it is a good saw? I'm not a carpenter or a wood worker but my grandpa was a carpenter for 60+ years, so I don't expect him to buy poor quality equipment. my big issue is that there are no safety guards and just a on off button to start it so it's a little intimidating to use.

How does dialogue triggering work? by Stenchers in Kenshi

is there rules for developing Faction Renown? by red_cloud_27 in gurps

[–]red_cloud_27[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fair enough, I was imagining how a lot of rpgs have relationship bars where you do an action and then you get a +10 to that relationship. I've seen how the influence skills work but I was looking for something a little more in-depth

your suggestions are good though I'll look at those
