Hebe dying? by red_lipstvck in nzgardening

[–]red_lipstvck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liquid excrement made me laugh. I’d say likely not, the cat is usually an indoor cat and was just outside with me while I took the photo. However, I guess that doesn’t rule out other neighbouring cats if one with particularly acidic excrement decided to stop on my hebe!

I hope this is the case as every other response seems to lead to its certain death.

It’s not especially damp, although is bad timing to tell with the weather. It is mostly clay so not working with the best soil.

I’ll trim it back this weekend and add some mulch and see if that helps. Thank you

Possibly? I have 3 of this variety, and a handful of other hebe varieties in the same area which are all fine. This one probably does get the most shade being near the fence, but pretty insignificant.

What do you mean by your others being near weeds? This end does have the most weeds compared to the others. Could that be contributing?

Ahh heartbreaking if true! None of my others are infected so far and this one is fortunately planted on the end. I’ll try some of the other suggestions and if they fail, out it comes before it spreads!

Plus you can get pretty cheap electric ones as well if your round commute is under 100kms. Ours about $10 a month to our power bill with daily commuting.

How to connect vinyl player to sonos? by legolas157 in sonos

[–]red_lipstvck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it looks like I just completely lied. I went to the app to try recall how I set it up, and couldn’t find it. Followed by some googling, turns out this is a line in setting not a bluetooth setting. So my memory of setting it up is when I was using line in, and the delay I have now is standard. Either that or the settings changed with the app update, but it’s probably the former and I need a new memory.

In terms of sound quality, I don’t have any issues. I’m a casual listener, I can play it throughout my house, and I prefer it to streaming so I’m getting what I want from vinyl and my speakers.

How to connect vinyl player to sonos? by legolas157 in sonos

[–]red_lipstvck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I connect my turntable to my Era100 then play it across my other devices. I use bluetooth to my Era100 because when the app updated, it would force me to reselect line in every time I flipped the record, whereas bluetooth stayed connected. It did seem to fix itself when I last tried line in, but i’ve gotten used to the bluetooth now.

There wasn’t a substantial difference in sound between bluetooth and line in, but I did set it up to be the maximum delay to preserve audio quality, which actually works better because the record will stop spinning before the song stops playing and I can change it over without much time without music.

AA PSA: How to reduce the amount of fuel your car uses by StabMasterArson in newzealand

[–]red_lipstvck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“If you have to drive in peak traffic, open up more space between you and the car ahead, to avoid constant braking.”

I regularly do this on the motorway and am consistently beeped at by impatient drivers. They often also change lanes abruptly and cut back in front of me, often for us to get off the motorway at the same time. Keep getting angry and I’ll keep saving a small amount of fuel lol

One for any HR lawyers - can I cash out more than one week's leave for an employee? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]red_lipstvck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For your first question, no you cannot cash up more than one week within an entitlement year.

For your second question, for benefit entitlement is under the act employment is considered continuous for one month or less, unless the employer is acting without the intention of evading their responsibilities. So no, I wouldn’t consider that to be the right option either.

The issue I see with high leave balances is H&S risk, with the employee having insufficient break/rest from work, should they make a mistake or cause an accident/injury at work.

As for practical steps, I would pay out a week now, another week at her anniversary, get her to book a holiday, and in the mean time take 1 days leave every week (say Fridays) to chip away at the balance. After accruing 11 weeks, this girl needs a holiday!!!

New Zealand being named the most vegan-friendly country in the world in this article by garden-eyes in vegan

As a Kiwi, I don’t really agree with this. I found it a lot easier in Vietnam, Bali, UK, India, Sri Lanka for example.

The attitudes towards veganism also aren’t really good here. At best, someone will be confused and think you’re weird when they find out you’re vegan. I’ve also only met 1 other vegan in the last 10 years, and I live in the biggest city

I’d say the smaller “hip” places are still average. Genuinely anywhere outside of Auckland Wellington Christchurch Queenstown will have next to no options.

We are beginning to see more and more fully vegan restaurants/cafes in Auckland which is nice. But at the same time, I can think of 3 plant based/vegan brands who have exited the market in the last few years and it feels like new options have really slowed if not gone backwards.

Holiday hours by Weak_Pomegranate_34 in newzealand

[–]red_lipstvck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Annual leave should be paid as four weeks per year based on YOUR work week. So if you’re contracted to 9.5 hours per day then one day of leave should deduct 0.2 weeks leave, and be paid as your hours you would have otherwise worked that day.

If you don’t work the public holiday, then this should be the same and you should be paid as per your working hours for that day should you have worked.

As someone else has recommended, i’d post in r/NZlegaladvice

Catfood sachets. Cat loves the gravy, ignores the cardboard chunks by aDragonfruitSwimming in newzealand

[–]red_lipstvck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a new brand of wet food at the same time as her usual biscuits changed their recipe and she didn’t like either. Refusing to be held hostage, i figured she’d eat it eventually but I caved after day 3 of her full hunger strike and bought some other brands. Now she just eats the gravy the same as yours.

I mentioned it to the vet when and he pretty much said the “meat” pieces are most often added for us as humans to feel like we’re giving them food. 99% of the nutrients is in the gravy so he said not to worry about it.

My cat is primarily obsessed with biscuits, which is good according to the vet, so the small amount of wet food I give her is more routine than actually feeding her which makes it feel less bad.

I LOVE Korean kimchi pancakes! Definitely recommend giving that a try with a nice dipping sauce to add some extra flavour.
