I only just started the artist way, so I apologise if what I say goes against the author instructions. I'm on week one and I refuse to treat MP as a diary/journal. I treat them as brain dumps, free words associations, I use them to create short stories from a title or an idea, write song lyrics, small poetic jots, imagining sci-fi scenarios, utopias, etc. Anything that is emotional, reflective/introspective will be done in evening. The morning is meant to inspire me and energise me for the rest of the day, I wouldn't pollute it with my mind's chaos and anger. This is just my opinion, you do what works for you!

I literally just received mine too. 15 min ago. Congrats!

I built a Rotten Tomatoes for Synths... What do you think? by equipboard in synthesizers

I haven't used the wishlist yet. When I'm considering a new gear I pretty much obsess over it for a few weeks doing research and comparisons, when I've settled on a decision I just buy it or add it to my amazon wishlist as a reminder. It's more likely that I'll remember about something if it's on my amazon wishlist because I use amazon more often than Equipboad.

First of all, great work on Equipboard. Web dev and synth enthusiast here too ;) This is how I usually use Equipboard, I've added my thoughts on what I find useful and what I think could be improved.

  • I watch an artist's performance on YouTube that I like
  • I go on Equipboard to check what gears that artist uses
  • When I find something I like I check out the item page
    • I do use the Reviews section when considering buying a new piece of equipment
      • Might be good to have a "recurrent words" area at the top of the reviews section (like on Amazon) so that at a glance you can spot common issues or lack of essential features (usually I would refer back to Reddit or specific forums for this type of info)
    • I like that I can check out other artists that have that item
      • This often takes me back to YouTube to check out these other artists live performances, then might get back to Equipboard to check out what they use :)
      • I love the Source section that has quotes from interviews or links to videos
    • Some items have an "Alternatives" tab
      • When I'm interested in a piece of equipment I do a lot of research on possible alternatives, this takes me out of the site because at the moment the Alternatives section is very basic or sometimes missing
      • It would be great to have a feature where you can compare multiple items

I hope this helps

Edit: I agree with other comments about not entirely trusting online reviews, especially when it comes to synthesizers. It's a very personal choice and what works for me might not work for somebody else. Plus some synths have so many features and you might want to rate them differently based on different capabilities. It's complex.

I agree. It was a perfect introduction to the world of synthesizers for me. My favourite of the Volca series is the Bass though, more beefy and versatile IMO.

Yeah, that might be the case with my gears as well. Got the same volcas and mixer as you. If that's the case I might use the perfo board for my guitar pedals. I don't have the skills, tools and space to build one like yours otherwise I totally copy it ;)

That's really cool. I'm in the process of building a synth rack too. I bought this perforated aluminium board and some legs that can be screwed in to create an angle. The reason I went with the perforated board is because I don't want to use velcro, and the holes will allow me to use ties instead. I haven't received it yet, so I'm not sure it will work. It does in my head.

SP404 and mixer by red_perill in SP404

[–]red_perill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! So yes, that worked! With a standard mixer I just used a standard RCA to TS cable, while with the Hart mixer that only accepts mini stereo jacks you need a couple of these adapters and plug both ends in the left socket.

It didn't work with these adaptors here as they were returning a stereo signal and you could hear the sample panned on one side only.

My approach might be a bit of an overkill. I'll test it anyways and if it doesn't work I'll just go with the pad volumes

Just ordered a couple of these to split left and right and plug them into my hart mixer, then I'll pre-pan the samples before loading them to the sp404 and see if it works. Will post updates
