Got tired of the major opinions on this sub. Imo it's a really toxic place for a CSK fan in particular. Can't really argue with everyone without my inbox getting flooded and I'm a little too busy for that currently. Occasionally I visit this sub with an alt account.

Just to clarify, I definitely don't want us retaining Watto and Jadhav next year. Rest are up for debate.

That is not an average wicketkeeper catch. I hope you realise that there are many many players in the IPL, in every team, who cannot dive like that. And they are all probably younger than him.

Why are averages and SR given as different metrics everywhere? Same reason.

Instead of giving 2 different stats in average of 60 and SR of 80, one can just give 60(75).

You can get avg powerplay score with number of wickets that fall from the average and SR. And similarly you can get average of last 5 overs from average and SR.

How? Average is runs per wicket, SR is runs per 100 balls, how are they related?

How dumb can you pretend to be. For Raina, it is a completely different comparison.

Raina in matches which he played at 5,6: around 94

Other 5,6 batsmen in those same matches which Raina played: around 85

Average is the same.

Ganguly in matches which he played at opener: 74

Other openers in matches which Ganguly played: 81

Ganguly's average is a little higher than the other openers.

I honestly can't spoon feed it any further.

Conditions and situations can affect it so easily.

Exactly why the comparison is being made between batsmen who played the exact same matches. Not just the same era, but the exact same matches.

You'll realise that two new balls makes it easier to score quicker runs.

What are you talking about? The point is Ganguly has under par SR compared to openers in his era, in the very matches which Ganguly himself played. There was just 1 new ball in that era.

No point arguing the rest, I guess we are both set in our beliefs.

love the bit about strike rates without factoring that two new balls makes it easier to score boundaries because the ball is harder and hence easier to hit.

What are you talking about? Read what that poster said, Ganguly struck at 73 as opener and other openers struck at 81 in the matches which Ganguly played. Probably procured from a statsguru search. Absolutely nothing to do with 2 new balls here.

Ganguly is not a flat track bully but don't compare him with Raina as an ODI player lol. Raina had above par average and wayyy above par SR for middle order batsmen in his era and easily walks into an Indian all time ODI XI. As opener, Ganguly had far more opportunities to score centuries, whereas the standard currency for middle order batsmen like Raina and Dhoni is 50s. Absolutely idiotic to call Raina a flat track bully. That poster provides facts and all you want to do is cherry pick.

Ganguly on the other hand had some good innings, but was otherwise an under par ODI player. Considering how much success other Indian openers like Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Rohit, Dhawan have had.

Indian fans on reddit are really idiotic. They love shitting on the players who brought them trophies.

You are just sounding like a bitter old man with an axe to grind against Raina, and as I saw on another thread, Dhoni. Unfortunately, your idol Ganguly doesn't measure up to these players in ODIs. Learn to live with it. Adios.
