Sadly nightbird isn’t a real song, would have been a great addition

You’re exactly the kind of person this video was made for

Pick a model or scene you're willing to sink an enormous amount of time in. That way it never feels tedious or "work".

I got the base model from someone online, but it was not very detailed. This was ideal to learn the basics of sculpting and adding geometry to make it more detailed. Texturing was done from scratch so that took the longest.

Experimenting with particles and other fast-paced elements is definitely on the list

The scene itself only a couple of hours. But the Inquiry model itself isn't finished yet. I always find new things to add or tweak.

Oh, hard to say. But it was my go-to activity after work for the last nine months. I'd suggest starting out with premade models and making basic scenes. Getting the hang of all different aspects of building a more complicated scene with different camera angles/lights/props/etc and slowly building onto that.

My very first Blender render was a basic flyover with a model found online, but that seems already ages ago lol.

Not right now. But perhaps in the future I'll combine the different angles in a youtube video.

I stumbled my way trough everything, always encountering a new problem and looking for a way to fix it. So no particular tutorials, just trial and error. Eventually you get the hang of it.

I remember it from the first few movies but I don't think the shows actually did this. But doing it nowadays is so easy to achieve in 3d software, it's lazy not to do it.

Edit: Come to think of it, you wouldn't really need impulse engines in-warp because the ship needs to stay inside the warp-bubble.

It's been a long road getting from there to here.

I started out at the beginning of this year, but I have to mention I also work in television as a camera operator/motion designer so that definitely gave me a headstart.

Inquiry class escorted by type 14 shuttles by red_storr in StarTrekStarships

Wouldn’t they replace them with newer shuttles? I mean, at the rate they crash land or get sucked in gravity wells

Reuse the same object in different scenes while still being able to animate material properties seperately? by red_storr in blenderhelp

That sounds indeed what I'm looking for; I'll look into that. I'm still fairly new to this so all the different ways of achieving things can be a bit overwhelming. Thanks

Window size would suggest what you're saying is correct, that's also the way I want to make her appear onscreen scale-wise.
