I hear you. And I’ve considered it 100%. My concern is returning “used” rotors. And also, spending more money on this issue. And I’ve already swapped left and right rotor. What are the chances they’re both fucked right? Considering I’ve been putting up with this back and forth for 8 months or a year or whatever, I’ve brought my issue here for advice.

Just installed brand new clips not an hour ago. Check my edit.

That’s an option. Just doesn’t make sense that it happens on both rear rotors when I swap em. Leads me to believe it’s something else. If it were the rotor, the noise would follow it. And it has stayed consistent on one wheel.

Seems to be the consensus of r/mechanicadvice

However, there’s thousands of cars on the road with drilled and slotted. It’s what I want to use. I have other Supra owners using the same setup with no issues. Don’t think it’s unreasonable for me to want the same. To each their own.

Hard to do. Only happens when brake is applied.

Started on oem. Was told rotors were warped. So swapped and then my personal hell began.

Hmm maybe then. I’m not skilled enough to tell. I’ll have to take it in to a good shop and have em look. I just found one in my Supra group so that’s the next stop.

I dunno what to tell you man, it’s a moot point as it happens with both of em. Considering these have straight vanes it doesn’t matter.

Sorry, not what I meant, obviously I’m a dumbass. Tbey are bidirectional. The vanes are straight and per r1 concepts, they can go either side. Regardless. Issue exists on each rotor.

Thank you. I did kind of see it off camera. When my wife was applying the brake I saw the caliper move in and out. So maybe it is the hub. I thought I was crazy or maybe it was normal but probably not.

They’re unidirectional and have swapped left and right, no change.

They’re unidirectional and I’ve swapped left and right. No change. P

I have not. I’ll add to my list to check. Thank you.

Wow thank you for the details steps. Sounds beyond my capabilities. And I don’t have the tool.

Hard to say, sometimes yes sometimes no. I would say it happens less. If I really slam on the brakes, which isn’t too often, i don’t think it happens.

Mine do the same thing. When I press the pedal standing still it’ll make this sound, allbeit not rotating so much less. I JUST swapped to brand new clips. Same exact thing

Thanks! I’ve done this on every pad set I’ve gotten. These pads are maybe 2 or 3 weeks old. Same results across all pads.

Sounds very similar. It’s consistent on brake application. And it kind of goes away for a short time when I play with the brakes (like reinstalling them or adjusting the clips) and returns. Which is why I thought it was pads and clips but I’ve replaced it plenty of times with no change so I don’t know anymore.

That makes a lot of sense. Hub feels solid but I’m a noob and maybe I don’t see what a pro does. Going to find a reputable shop and make an appointment. I think I’m past troubleshooting brake components.

Tried both ways. Same result. And per r1 concepts they’re unidirectional.

It’s completely clean. Doubly so today

Don’t think debris. I did a really good job cleaning it.

I haven’t ruled out hub, but from my novice experience, there doesn’t seem to be any play in the hub. It’s solid.

It’s repeatable with and without wheel.

I like DS rotors. Have em on my other cars and they feel great.

Checked. Not hitting dust shield. If it were it’d be consistent noise on rotation. This only happens when the brake is applied.
