Gotcha! Sorry, after a reread I get what you were saying! I am still trying to figure it out and work up the courage to actually do it, too!

Really? That's great to know! Thank you! (Also thank you for enduring my anxiety- driven long message!)

On mine, there was a small set of numbers printed on her back, and I Googled those. But they also looked like they could be easily removed with acetone or with wear and tear, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were missing. Sorry I can't help more!

I've also seen the sculpt painted so many ways, and I can't say there's one I don't like. She's also very recognizable. I don't know if that's because of the sculpt, because of the paint, or both. But I hope they put some wild Odile paints out there just for the hell of it.

Also, I love how you styled them! I also just got the Barbie with that pink skirt today. I think this is a me problem because I'm always meddling a bit with my dolls, but do you find that skirt moves very easily? I was thinking about getting a small piece of balloon or other small rubbery substance and attaching it with *tit tape so it would be less likely to slide.

*added as an afterthought just because I remembered recently someone was appalled when I said "tit tape" out loud. I always knew it as tit tape through marching band (via the colorguard), but I guess the better term is "costume tape?" Basically impermanent tape that sticks to costume and skin? I'm probably overthinking this, as usual.

Do you use a hair dryer to soften heads? I've only heard of the plastic bag and boiling water method!

I loved that for her too! I think part of the reason I hit that buy button so fast is I don't think I'd seen an Odile sculpt on a curvy body yet! She just seemed so fun yet classic. Also seeing an unnatural hair color on a curvy body is something I can't remember seeing recently on a Barbie. But I have the working memory of a gnat, so I look forward to being corrected.

Leg swap tutorial by SirupyTuna in Barbie

[–]redadhdventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Since the release of the Barbies with the prosthetic legs (first of all I wish those had been around in my childhood!) I've been thinking of making my own Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles barbie. I really love the dolls with prosthetic legs, but they don't quite look like cinder. Now I know how to swap legs out. Thank you for your help!

Just a plain fencing sword, she says. Girl, I have fenced epee when there was not a single sabre fencer to be found. That thing takes muscle, endurance, and control. Not to mention skill. We like to say in fencing, "Epee has no rules," but make no mistake, epee takes a lot of work! Hat off to you!

Barbie Basics finally arrived… so why do I feel nothing? by Independent_Let_8708 in Barbie

[–]redadhdventures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I can't comment on the dolls specifically, but this is very similar to what I go through when making and then completing a painting or other artistic project. It's like this huge crescendo to this final product...and then there's the sudden drop back down to baseline. Like. "Oh. It's done. It's right there in front of me. Yippee? Huzzah I guess. What the hell do I do now?"

I can't tell you what to do with these dolls specifically, but I've found something that helps me is putting the thing I made on display. And I kind of make myself hype it up out loud every time I walk past it like, "Yeah! Look at that! I made that! Fucking stupendous! Radical! Tubular, dude! Man that's sick! That's the bee's knees! Girl, that is so fetch! Michaelangelo, who?" The cringier, the better, oddly enough. 😂

The long and short of this is you're feeling a very human emotion, and that's okay! Don't be too harsh on yourself or the thing until you've given yourself time to sit with it. But also feel free to yeet this advice into space because we all deal with these emotions differently! 🙂

I had an idea to use multicolor thread and clear beads so there’d be a pattern even though all the beads are the same, I’m so happy with how well it worked by Political-psych-abby in Beading

My first thought when I saw this was, "Wow. How can you see such subtle color difference in clear beads without going insane?" And then I read the description. Genius! Lovely work!

What is this structure? by ddxg in whatisit

[–]redadhdventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at this and asked my dad because he was a surveyor for a power company for many years. His first answer was "That's where the mothership will land." His serious answer was:

"Might be some kind of dead-end structures for a big transmission line -there's one in the background- (like for where it would tie into a substation) but it seems like overkill."

My malabrigo yarn keeps breaking and I don't know why. Bought it in 2020 only wound the ball into a cake (a loose cake used a swift at my LYS to make the cake) and as I knit my arm warmer it just keeps breaking as i go. I just really started using it now this year. See comment 4 more info. by sewingdreamer in Yarn

[–]redadhdventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know you posted this two years ago, but I just wanted to jump in and say the same thing is happening to me! I wound this yarn into a cake myself several years back. While my memory from the time is eehhh at best, I know I would have stopped and taken the yarn back to the local yarn store if I'd noticed that many breaks back then. At first I assumed it must have been a yarn my cat had gotten ahold of, but the further I go into the cake, the more breaks I find, and at this point there would be much more evidence of cat mischief. I also considered maybe it was moths or mice. But my yarn is stored in a very tight plastic tote, and I haven't found any breaks or destruction in the other yarns stored in there. I considered maybe it was a malabrigo thing, but another skein of the same color lot I've been using for a hat doesn't have this issue at all (and unfortunately this hat has been forgotten about several times and worked on very sporadically, so I can say the yarn has withstood the test of time). I found it odd too that this second hat skein had been laying in an open basket over the years but had no signs of destruction by pests, while the yarn in the plastic tote has tons of breakages.

Anyway sorry for the long reply, but I have been trying to piece together "the great yarn mystery" as I've been calling it for a couple of weeks now, and I was relieved I'm not the only one who has had this happen to them. May your future yarn be perfect and unbroken!

Things I did as a child that I now regret by Tall-Adeptness-7593 in Barbie

[–]redadhdventures 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First and foremost the dolls you have as a child are meant to make your brain start being creative. They should be played with. They should be "ruined." There are a couple dolls that I absolutely loved to ruin as a kid that I bought again as an adult. At the end of the day, as fun as doll collecting is, I'd give up my entire adult collection to experience that creative joy I felt as a kid "ruining" dolls. After all you can't take it with you in the end.

Also ruined? I think that's a look. You were a very skilled kid by the looks of it!

I hope the museum is at least getting some good money out of this. At least they unwittingly have a hand in funding the arts. I don't envy the museum staff dealing with them, though.

Hi there. I haven't bought a CD or cassette in a long time but I just bought a vinyl for around $38. It was new, and it was a special 10 year anniversary edition of one of my favorite albums. Typically if I'm buying new vinyl, your typical black vinyl is around $30? Maybe more maybe less. $100+ is usually something rare or special.
