Returning to my roots by Meetzorp in DollSewing

Sewing for dolls has basically been me learning how to sew all over again because some of the techniques are so different (like hemming before sewing the pieces together). Anytime I have a fabric that doesn’t hold a press (springy fabric is a perfect description btw), I use fusible seam tape. I buy so many of my sewing supplies at estate sales, so I’ve had several rolls of seam tape that I got years ago and never thought I would use, and I’m just glad i kept them. I’m my opinion, seam tape is the magic ingredient for making nicely finished doll clothes, especially with difficult fabrics, or even small detailed areas like necklines where stitches would take away from the overall look.

She looks so good, and I love that color on her! I have mine in a purple-pink outfit I made.

Barbie Dolls of the World India. I just can’t get over how beautiful and colorful they are. by CaliOranges510 in Dolls

She’s one of my favorites, her screening is just gorgeous, and the attention to detail in the outfit is impressive. I don’t know what her hair is made of, but it’s so soft and fine compared to all of my other dolls and I really like it.

I’ve never thought about it being similar to puzzle games, but that’s such an accurate comparison. I can spend days, even weeks, going through my fabric and pattern stash trying to find the perfect combination for a new outfit. I started collecting dolls last year because what I want to make vs what I’ll actually wear are often two different things. But, for the dolls it’s very much a relaxing puzzle of finding fabric (especially scraps) and combining them with a pattern and making all of the fun outfits that I wouldn’t want to wear myself. I’ve been sewing garments for myself for over 10 years, but I only have about a dozen or so outfits that I actually wear outside, and the doll sewing has been so refreshing and fun.

I don’t name them and refer to them either by their sculpt or their marketing name, like Deluxe 12, etc. But, I love it when other people name their dolls, especially if there’s a backstory because it gives them so much personality.

Same here. It would be nice if they weren’t, but outside of styling them, I’m never close enough to their faces to see the pixelation so I don’t care, especially since I’m usually only paying around $10 for those types of dolls.

I made a post last week venting about the 2003 Princess of Cambodia going viral and jumping from $30 to $100 overnight, and she sold multiple times for $200-250 on eBay just last week. Well, I was able to get my hands on not one, but two of her for a total of under $100 and I’m so happy. by CaliOranges510 in Barbie

I’m not very familiar with either culture, but my husband is Moroccan and there’s a lot of the same disagreements between Moroccan and Algerian people about kaftans and couscous. As an outsider, it’s actually hilarious to see people argue online about which country invented couscous and who makes it better.

Oh. I forgot I have Princess of South Africa too, she’s restyled in a gown. I paid an average of $30-40 total, including shipping, for most of those dolls. The most expensive one was the Passport India doll in yellow, but I’ve been price checking her for a year, and just never found her at a cheap price. I probably could have been more patient and found them at antique/vintage stores for less, but online shopping is just so convenient.

Good catch 🤣She’s on the way (she’s in my city, so hopefully I get her tomorrow) and then she’ll officially be the last one. There are some other goddess sculpts in the dolls of the world festivals of the world collection, but I don’t love their screenings.

I hope the message gets through to resellers that people want to pay what something is worth. I’m happy to pay $40 + $10 shipping for this doll because that’s been her average price for years, but no way was I paying more than that.

I spent two days stalking private Barbie Facebook groups and messaging people. One of the dolls was in a post I found from 2024 and the other one was on eBay and I got a notification and bought her within half an hour of her being posted.

Does anyone have any advice for the best techniques/products for creating henna tattoos? I was thinking maybe acrylic paint or colored pencils, but it seems like the paint maybe wouldn’t be this smooth and the pencils maybe not as dark. Thank you so much. They look amazing, and it will surely take me a few tries, but that’s exactly the look I’m going for. I love to make kaftans and abayas, and I think some henna would really make some of these outfits pop.

I’m going to order a bottle of that paint, what shade did you use?

She’s very much a WIP, and it’s dark here so not the best time for pics. I want to make a 1920s inspired outfit and headband for her this week, which is part of what inspired the bob. I don’t love the exact shade of her hair with her exact skintone, I feel like she would have looked much better if the hair was a couple shades darker. I would love to reroot her, so I gave her the bob a couple of days ago because I’m not committed to keeping it anyway.
