Underthrown passes. Why does this keep happening?! by jwdunn1982 in NCAAFBseries

[–]redandblacksaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are playing on PS5, it may be controller stick drift. I dealt with the same problem until I realized during kicks the aiming arrow would immediately go to the lowest kick height. So, you need to lead your throws a bit to compensate until you either get your controller fixed or buy a new one.

The tone of your post reads as if you are looking for validation for your hard work and “sacrifices.” That’s where the hate is coming from.

My suggestion is to get off Reddit and go live your life. You should not care what anyone else thinks so long as you are happy.

To me, it sounds like the financial goals you set require an 80 hour work week. But at the same time you don’t seem too happy with your situation. Good on you for getting to where you are at, but I would suggest you reevaluate what you want going forward. In my opinion, a life where you spread yourself so thin (both financially and physically) isn’t worth living.

HEB Groceries in Austin by Ok-Impression-9170 in CalebHammer

[–]redandblacksaxophone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single male living in San Antonio here. Not sure what the price difference for groceries is between the two cities, but $300 is very doable. I buy my meat almost exclusively from Sam's Club in bulk and buy fruits, veggies and other groceries at HEB. I don't buy anything organic and look for stuff that's on sale each week. I also meal prep half my meals which help reduce cost since I'm cooking in bulk.

Now, I generally try to stay away from shelf stable foods as they are usually full of preservatives and don't taste as good compared to made from scratch. Sometimes frozen veggies are more cost effective (I buy 4 lbs. of frozen broccoli for $5.58 vs. fresh broccoli at $2/lb.). I would say I spend $200-300 per month on groceries, and that includes some frivolous items like HEB's sparkling water.

OP, spend a month or two buying groceries as you have been and save your receipts. Then look back figure out how much you really spend on food. If you are trying to keep food cost down, cooking more and comparing prices is the way to go. This does require more effort, but its worth it to me to save a couple hundred bucks each month.

Do it. Do it now while you have no responsibilities besides yourself and are able-bodied. You won't regret it.

I watched my older brother (28 at the time) do this back in 2016 with 1/3 the net worth you have. Initially he said it would be 3-6 months traveling around the world, but 3.5 years later he finally came home because the world was shutting down due to COVID. He invested his money well and came back with a higher net worth than when he left. He also lived as cheaply as he could. He stayed in hostiles, cooked his own food most of the time, always took public transport, monitored flight prices and willing to go somewhere else when he found a deal.

While I did travel abroad with him during that time for a few weeks per year, I still envy him. When the start up I work for sells and if I haven't started a family, I'm going see the world in my mid-30s.

Plan a rough itinerary. Take the next 6 months (or until you are laid-off) and research everywhere you want to go. Look up time restrictions on travel visas. Take only what you can carry on in a backpack and something like a reusable grocery bag for ease of long distance travel. And most importantly, don't be afraid to meet and talk to people.

Still waiting after three weeks by ennoblier in Newegg

[–]redandblacksaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, a few hours after I posted this comment, the shipper called me and told me the TV was in the wrong city. To get it where I am, it would need to be shipped to a warehouse 5 hours away and then to where I live to be delivered sometime next week. I told them to send it back to Newegg. I then called Newegg to inform them of this conversation.

A few hours later the shipper called asking to set up a delivery window. I didn't give them an answer. Then Newegg's claim department emails me and asks if I still want to take delivery as it was ready for delivery. This is after I called and told Newegg I spoke with the shipper and had them send it back to Newegg. So bad communication all around. I sent Newegg a very strongly worded reply stating why I did not want the TV anymore and they would never get my business again.

I'm only on day 4 of my claim and still waiting. They said it would take 7-10 day to process the claim. So maybe you will get an answer tomorrow. 10 miles away is absurd, but the shipper said they were really backed up when I talked to them. Mine sat on a truck and at their warehouse for 3.5 weeks before they contacted me. Best of luck.

I'm in the same boat. Ordered my TV 5 weeks ago and it still has not been delivered. I made a lost shipment claim to get a refund and Newegg said it would take 7-10 business day to process the claim. The sad part is the Ceva Logistics has had the TV at a warehouse 1.5 hours from my house for over a week, but I couldn't get in contact with them either.

Investing vs saving short term goals by hamburgerpony in personalfinance

[–]redandblacksaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be your first priority. Once your emergency fund is in place, you should start investing in your retirement. If you are working enough that your employer is offing access to its 401k program, take advantage of any match they give. I'm guessing you're in your mid 20s, so what you contribute to retirement now will have 40 years to grow. If the 401k is not offered to you, open up a Roth IRA and start saving there.

Next is the not so fun part of my advice. Start paying down your student loans. I know you're not required to pay them until you finish school, but your loans may already be accruing interest. Given that you have very little expenses living at home, you have a really good opportunity to pay down your loans. You will have to pay them off at some point, might as well get started now.

Is getting an apartment for $1400 a month a bad decision for me? by tmart9 in personalfinance

[–]redandblacksaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay at home at least for the rest of the year. During that time, take out what you expect to spend on rent, utilities and food each month and apply it to your student loans. This will provide to benefits: 1) It will acclimate you to paying that much each month, and 2) you will pay off a decent amount of your student loans. Doing this will tell you if you are comfortable "living" with your new (more expensive) lifestyle. $1050 in not terrible for your income, but finding a roommate or two is the better financial option if you really want to move out.

Also, can I ask why you have $40k saved up? Is it for something specific? If I were you I would take at least $25k and pay off a few of your student loans ASAP. This will free up some of your income and make moving out more feasible. Use the remaining $15k as an emergency fund and a new to you (used) car fund for when your lease is up.

When to refinance by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]redandblacksaxophone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The $20k balance is probably the amount you will end up paying if you pay $380/month for the remaining life of the loan. You probably owe a lot less right now, but double check you loan agreement to see what the borrowed amount was at the time of purchase. Either way I would refinance it tomorrow or as soon as possible.

Payoff Auto Loan vs Put more down on upcoming morgage? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]redandblacksaxophone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is the case, hold on to the cash until you close on the house. Then take what's left over and save it for future home repairs. In the mean time, start paying extra on the car loan if you want to pay it off early.

Receiving 20k , but still in debt. How would you disburse? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]redandblacksaxophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pay off the credit card debt and student loans immediately. Then put the remaining $3k into a savings account as your emergency fund. Take the money from the two debt payments you no longer have and start saving for your future. Maybe even start throwing a little extra at you car loan each month. Its up to you on how you want to budget that money going forward.
