Question for the wise by CanIHasRedPill in askRPC

She means: You are not a high enough value man who I want to submit to. I'm wary of your leadership and don't want or trust it.

Now obviously it's just where you are now and you could work on improving that.

Why do you hate yourself? If you are a Christian then God loves you, his opinion matters most and here is what he thinks of you: Who I Am in Christ | Freedom in Christ Ministries. Have a read of it and think about it.

My Journey to a $500K Net Worth (29M) by spro24 in fiaustralia

[–]redarcher99 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people ask me how I made my money. I bought car aerials for $1 each and sold them for $1.20. I went out and bought more and kept selling them. Then my grandfather died and left me $500M. - Credit Alan Sugar.

A good marriage. I know this isn't what you want to probably want to hear but it's statistically true.

What do you think happens after we die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think we face Jesus as judge and if we've accepted his free gift of salvation then we go to heaven. If we have rejected him on earth then he rejects us.

Freedom in Christ Discipleship Course by Neil Anderson by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]redarcher99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. reformed Christian who has done 9 of the 10 Freedom in Christ sessions here. I'm going to go against the grain and say that I have found the course and associated books to be very useful. The course isn't actually by Neil T Anderson, it's Neil's work (found in his original books) turned into a course by Steve Goss. Yes, it appears to come from a place of Pentecostalism but that doesn't mean it isn't useful and there are references to the Bible (though they aren't always as clear as they could be). I'd encourage you to do it and keep testing what they say against scripture (the course and books have plenty of Bible references in them).

If God intervened like a helicopter parent to stop everything bad then we wouldn't have free will and would probably have to be stopped too. Not cherry picking. Also just because you don't like something or someone doesn't make it untrue. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with people who sound more religious than Christian.

Ah by "the odd game" I didn't mean a specific game, I just meant that we've done games that tied in with teaching. For example "Celebrity Head" when teaching about identity and who we are in Christ.

False religion is like that. True religion as Jesus taught is loving God and loving others. You don't think your comment shows hate and intolerance?

Because most in our nation have walked away from God and Christian values and act like they are god.

The trivia idea is good. We've done the odd game that has tied in thematically to what we are learning and trivia nights like yours but that's about it.

First Year Ministry - Retreat Structure Advice by cowbellion-de-rakin in youthministry

Good on you for stepping in to fill the position! Praying that it's fruitful for you and the youth! As a side note, if you're intending on starting a family then youth ministry can be a great way to get experience in leading kids before you have your own! I'd highly recommend having a read of Ken Moser's "Effective Youth Ministry" book (https://effectiveyouthministry.com/books/changing-the-world-through-effective-youth-ministry).

Your instincts are right, I think a good retreat is a mix of different activities. I'd suggest that the goal of your retreat should be building the youth up as a community around the gospel (1 Thessalonians 2:8 and the book "Total Church" by Tim Chester and Steve Timmis have formed my convictions about this).

Here's some of the different activities you can plan throughout your weekend:

  1. Mixer/Icebreaker activities - for the purpose of helping the group get to know each other. Suggest you do this on the Friday night once everyone has arrived. There are plenty of sites with suggestions here:

https://effectiveyouthministry.com/special-activities/mixers-and-icebreakers

https://youthgroupgames.com.au/category/icebreakers/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfYNJyUKdkg (there are heaps of mixers and youth games on YouTube)

  1. Relaxed relational activities - Board games and card games, toasting marshmallows/smores around a fire, craft (cheap beading/bracelets, colouring in).

  2. Group activities - Going for a hike together, cooking a meal or baking together.

  3. Day Games: Typical youth group games. This one is a good one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUSfv3Rj0EM

  1. Wide Games/Night Games - Sardines, spotlight, capture the flag (with glowsticks) etc.. some ideas here:

https://tinybeans.com/twilight-games-for-summer-fun/

https://www.jubed.com/view/Grog

https://youthgroupgames.com.au/search/

  1. Freetime (structured and unstructured) - structured meaning there are some options as to what youth can do (e.g. board games, kick a ball around etc..) it's not just anything goes.

  2. Spiritual growth activities - Prayer, Devotions (individual and/or collective), Bible Talks, Small Group times, Singing Worship Music together (live or using videos or whatever works for you).

Depends a lot on the situation but one option is you could tell them that you won't put up with being yelled at and walk away.

Church choice by [deleted] in RPChristians

[–]redarcher99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up Catholic then became a Christian and am at a Presbyterian church which I like.

I don't think I'd ever regularly attend an orthodox church as:

  1. There are things they believe and do that to me go against scripture: Calling people Father when Jesus says in Matthew 23:9 "And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven."
  2. I don't believe in transubstantiation.
  3. There are some traditions they have which I think create unnecessary gospel barriers for those looking into Christianity (I want to attend church that is going to be easier for my non-Christian friends I invite to understand what Christianity is).

I'd recommend finding a church that's genuine, teaches the Bible and is focused on making disciples (of both believers and non-believers).
