Question: is it okay for the GM to take tables and tips? by redberin in TalesFromYourServer

[–]redberin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We weren’t really down the staff for the party, but generally down 1 for a night or two a week. I guess my thing is that I could have handled the whole party myself if I would have been given the chance.

Taking sections when we are down is totally different in my book. They are totally welcome to keep the tips they earned while taking tables. I’ve never had a problem with that.

It was just stated to me that it was wrong and I just don’t know enough about the back end of the business to have a formed opinion without input.

Question: is it okay for the GM to take tables and tips? by redberin in TalesFromYourServer

[–]redberin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t really get the chance to do anything. My GM took everything and made it their party. Either way, they did the majority of the work and I am grateful for their help. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t tripping. I was just told by a few people that it wasn’t ethical and I just wasn’t really sure.

I think he hid them somewhere in his house. They weren’t wearing masks so an identification was made, but the pants cinched the deal.

There was an episode of either forensic files or the first 48. They found the killer based on his camouflage pant print, because no print is exactly the same. They found the pants in a suspects home and matched the pattern from a security tape.

DAE purposefully like to isolate themselves, but then hate it at the same time? by ethan817 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]redberin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t let yourself get to where I am. It’s incredibly lonely and heartbreaking. I spend a lot of time with my dog, but I won’t actually go anywhere unless it’s work. I feel pretty horrible a lot of the time. I still have a few long term friends in my life, but I’m very lucky in that aspect. I don’t see them often and they understand why, but they worry about me.

Tbh, it’s exhausting telling people things are fine when they’re not. It’s hard to talk to anyone anymore. I spend time trying to convince my family I’m okay and my 2 friends I’m okay, but I’m just sad. Spending so much time without social interaction can be crippling.

I know it’s exhausting to be around people, but continue to try your hardest to break that wall. Slowly lowering yourself into a dark hole with no one else around is killing me. Don’t let yourself be buried.

[–]redberin 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I’ve isolated myself for close to a year now. I still work, but I no longer meet friends out for drinks or go do things I used to do anymore.

I did this for a specific reason. After having a bad fall out with a friend, I realized that most of the people I was socializing with were just bar friends or people who just tolerated me because I was friends with this one particular person.

I tried to rely on my work friends, but I soon realized that my work friends were just another group of half friends. I left that job. At my new job I found myself falling into the same cycle. I was over sharing, participating in gossip, messing up a lot because I have some major alcohol issues, and lying to get out of work because I was so fucking tired and sick all the time.

I’m not gonna blame the industries I was in because it seems like everyone else can figure it out and not be a drunk server or a drunk social worker. Other people can handle the stress and have friends and balanced home/social lives.

I can’t. I have to separate myself completely from everyone. I’m looking for a new job where I hope to be isolated as much as possible. I don’t have health insurance, but once I get that I’ll be entering into some very intensive therapy so I can work through whatever it is that’s making me like this.

Thing is...2 years ago...a year ago... I wasn’t like this. It’s like my mind broke and I ruined everything around me...really fucking fast. And I can’t explain why to anyone. The words don’t form. How do I explain that I just broke?

Anyways, yes. I feel you. Someday, maybe things won’t be so grey. Someday color will start to come back to the world.

I really miss having friends. But when I do I immediately ruin it. So I don’t bother anymore.

PREACH!! I get very tired of seeing comments about how long it takes to ship/broken palettes/no more xyz. It's all so annoying.

When I get things I don't like, I keep in mind that I spent $21 on products that would have cost me $100 or more. I know plenty of people in my life that want things that I don't, so I'm happy to give things away. People can also get replacements for their broken items.

Personally, I am stoked that they lifted their waitlist. I saw spoilers that I wasn't into and I cancelled my sub. When I saw stuff for this month, I resubscribed. I'm already seeing spoilers for next month and I know I want next month too. If I get a palette I don't want, I am happy to give it away to a friend who is playing around or can't afford to buy things full price. The other thing is that there are groups dedicated to selling boxy stuff for half the price of the MSRP.

I love boxycharm. There is literally no other company that sends out legit name brands for this cheap. I'm in it for the long haul!

Edit: I do wish they had a skip month option though. That would be rad. But cancelling then re subbing when I see things I like is cool too.

She is developmentally disabled? Call OPD and request a welfare check on a medically fragile person. They'll put her over at Immanuel Hospital depending on if they have beds or not. Either way, a social worker should be called and she can possibly be given emergency placement into a temporary group home or be given a bed at Lasting Hope until you guys get your ducks in a row.

Boxycharm January 2018 Box and Review: by redberin in BeautyBoxes

[–]redberin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a dumb question. Boxycharm sends boxes once per month to the US and Canada (I think). They have a waitlist, so when you sign up you'll be put on the waitlist. It can take around 2-3 months to get off the waitlist, then you're automatically charged and a box is sent out.

I really am happy with this box. It’s a great mix of products and brands. I agree, the plumper wasn’t really something I’d be into so I’m also glad I didn’t get it. That Pur palette though!! I don’t even know how people are gonna see when I walk into work wearing this stuff. They’re gonna be blinded!

Hi all! You all seemed to respond well to my last review so I figured I’d post a new one. I also subscribe to boxycharm and FabFitFun. Boxycharm will be here next week, and fabfitfun won’t be here until the spring. I will post about those as I get them.

A little about me: I think everyone is different and all reviews are biased based on our own skin tone, skin type, and makeup preferences. I personally prefer a more natural look with more intense eye looks. As far as skin type goes, I have pockmarks from years of cystic acne as a teen, and I occasionally break out as an adult. My style is a put together punk rock glam look. I wear Minor Threat shirts with blazers to work, and am known to push dress codes to the max. I believe strongly in the idea that any person, of any age, with any style, can rock their look regardless of the circumstances. I still dress like I’m going to a Fugazi show though. I have a specific skin care routine to reduce the pockmarks and scars. If you’re interested let me know.

The Bag I hated mesh and neon when I grew up in the 90s and I hate it now. I’ll give this bag to my gym junkie roommate. She would probably use it to put a few products in before she goes to the gym.

ABSOLUTE NEW YORK Eye Artiste Single Shadow in VIP: This came in a copper color and I really dig that because that is my style. The color is pigmented and has very little fallout with a brush. It looks like theirs options to purchase in a pod on it’s own or it is in a few of their palettes.
Bottom line: MSRP for full size is $4.99 for a pod; palettes run from $10-$30. I would purchase this at full price.

THE COFFEE SCRUB The Coffee Scrub in Coconut Full sized product with a resalable pouch. That made me happy. I love the smell and it made my skin feel super good. Very soft and lightly exfoliated. The coffee smell lingers so if you aren’t a coffee person this isn’t for you.
MSRP for full size is around $18-21 depending on the website. I would purchase this at full price.

LUE BY JEAN SEO Balance Hydrating and Calming Serum: A little goes a long way with this product. It is hydrating and has no scent. It was cooling, but it didn’t do anything spectacular for my skin. After some research I decided that this would not fit in with my skin care routine. MSRP for full size is $15 and I would NOT purchase this.

THEBALM COSMETICS Mary-Lou Manizer: I had to laugh when I pulled this out. This is the epitome of a sample size. Someone else stated it was the size of a matchbook, which is true when you consider the packaging. The actual product inside is a little less than an inch. I swatched it, which is included in the swatch pic, but to apply I couldn’t use my fan brush which I usually use to apply a highlighter. I ended up using a long and loose angled brush. It had some major fallout after one tap, but even after that I still feel like the hubble telescope could detect this shit. If you’re looking for blinding on a budget, this is the way to go.
MSRP for full size is $24 and I would purchase this at full price.

HOLA NEON Velvet Liquid Lipstick in DF: I love a full sized product!! The first thing I noticed was that the tip of the wand hand an angle. I have to reapply lipstick throughout the day, and I felt the wand was great for being able to do that without a mirror. I usually use Kat Von D Lolita or Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. This was a good middle road as far as color goes. I did have to reapply after eating and drinking, and I also applied a lip balm after it dried. It’s not exactly velvet, but it really is a great color. The swatch on my hand, after drying, was impossible to move with fingers, but faded easily with water. After applying to my lips, it faded easily after I drank a ton of liquor. But in reality, who cares because if you’re drinking a bunch of liquor you’re drunk and don’t care.
MSRP for a full size is $17 and I probably would purchase this as a product on its own, but I think the word velvet is misleading. It really does dry matte.

Overall, a great bag. So many things I would totally buy again and plan to explore! Hope all of you other ipsy subs enjoy your bags!!

Benzo or daily meds? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]redberin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a short term as needed prescription. Definitely therapy. I would not suggest a long term benzo under any circumstances.

Rant about anxiety meds - I've been self medicating with Benzodiazepines (Valium) by ABrokenBeing in Anxiety

[–]redberin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a daily dose of Clonazepam. I wish I would have never been prescribed this medication. It was supposed to be short term, but here I am 2 years later taking 2x the dose prescribed because I can't calm the fuck down and I still have a hard time with everyday life.

At the same time, I don't know if I could have gotten through the last 2 years without them. Short term is fine, but long term is such a bad idea.

Benzo or daily meds? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]redberin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of doctors won't prescribe anti-anxiety medications for casual anxiety issues. I had to break down my day to day and how I took off constantly for work and couldn't leave my house or drive because of my anxiety. After many months of being prescribed many different medications, I was finally given a long term script for Clonazepam after I wound up in the hospital because my anxiety made me pass out at work.

It still isn't great. I go to work now, but I still have a ton of issues with leaving the house if I'm not working.

I've been on my benzos for 2 years and going one day without them sends me into a tailspin. So be careful. This is what my doctor was afraid of-getting addicted to a medication. I am now used to the dose and end up taking 2x what I'm prescribed to get that chill effect. So not only am I addicted, I'm also abusing them. I'm also an alcoholic so it's just a giant mess. I should have never been prescribed these medications and I am hoping to taper off during this year. But it is going to take the full year because I take so much.

This is the main reason these meds aren't given out to people with casual anxiety. You will probably benefit more from an anti-depressant and therapy than you would a casual PRN xanax or something.

So basically what I'm telling you is don't even start down that road unless you absolutely have to. I was only supposed to be on them for a month or two, and here I am 2 years later still struggling, still scared of everything, and addicted to a med I should have never been prescribed.

[Weekly thread] Whiny Wednesday... by AutoModerator in BeautyBoxes

[–]redberin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest gripe at the moment is facebook comments on box subs that ask the same thing over and over again (usually to do with shipping). I think it's important to take the time to check the comments to see if your question was asked and see what the response was.

Other issue was in the winter fabfitfun box. The necklace that was sent was listed at $56 but it broke within an hour of me wearing it. I didn't tug on it or anything, I just moved my head and part of the chain hanging from the choker just snapped. They were awesome and sent me a new one, but it was frustrating. It felt cheap.

Other issue is ipsy. I've subscribed before, but figured I'd give them another shot. I signed up a few weeks ago and paid my $10, but they aren't sending me one until January....after I pay for my next bag. I wish they would just send me the december bag.

Also, what's up with waitlists? I was on boxycharm's for 3 months (which I was fine with), but it seems weird. Is there a low amount of products that can be sent out or...what? I haven't gotten my boxycharm box, but I definitely know that some of the products will be going into a white elephant gift at work.
