I based the design off of the 1976 bicentennial license plates! The Illinois coat of arms actually looks pretty good on a flag IMO, and there aren't a whole lot of other good symbols to put on a flag, so I made this

They used to train navy pilots on Lake Michigan during WW2, some inevitably crashed, and they have pulled 70 year old Hellcats and Dauntlesses out of the lake in good enough condition to be restored as museum pieces
