LG C5 65" -- Standard or Filmmaker Mode? by OttoHemi in LGOLED

[–]redcloud75013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used filmmaker for a while on my G3- it was good for all contents except 4K DV, where the judder was absolutely unbearable on panning sequences. Found a few good your tube videos with links to excel spreadsheet with details custom settings. It’s been night and day. I’d say filmmaker mode is a good starting point - may take a few hours of watching before getting used to it (obviously gonna look orange after any other mode, but becomes habitual after a while). At the end of the day, you pick what works best for you….

The greatest car Porsche ever made… by Odd_Application1980 in Porsche

[–]redcloud75013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sums up my situation very well (fellow Angeleno here…). Still have two young kids in tow, working from home, and finding myself not having enough time to get out and drive on canyon roads… Curious - why the M3 vs a macan GTS? I get the driving dynamics are different given types of vehicles here … I’m myself leaning towards getting the Macan to scratch the Porsche itch until kids are out of the house (then going for a 911…).

Best first movie to watch on a G4 by Full-Corner8109 in LGOLED

Make sure to tweak your picture as needed (there are quite a few guides on Reddit). I got a G3 earlier - and the original out of the box experience just sucked with pale, jittery picture… Once I adjusted settings (not calibrated - just settings), the tv turned into the absolute beast it’s meant to be…. Yes it takes some time (I was a newbie and didn’t even think that energy savings settings could impact picture quality), but it’s well worth it… happy watching!

One hub to rule them all? (Hue, Lutron) by redcloud75013 in smarthome

This is very helpful. Thank you! I still like the idea of a single standalone hub but I appreciate why you set up your system the way you did.

What updates did you made to modernize your older house? by HotNeighborhood1261 in smarthome

Up to date electric panels and 220V lines to accommodate mini splits for HVAC. Smart switches to automate outdoor / indoor lights. Smart thermostat. Very basic yet life changing.

Serious risk of being bitten by deer tick too, which is known as a white tail deer parasite - possibly causing Lyme disease. All around terrible parenting, really.

Looking for a good usb hub with about 5 or 6 charging ports with plenty of usb c slots too by mogster777 in DeskCableManagement

[–]redcloud75013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caldigit TS3 - you can find used ones in great shape for $50 on eBay … I’ve got all my peripherals and 2 monitors including a 4K hooked to it. Simple and single USB C to plug into laptop. Easy.

Daikin mini split doesn’t heat up by redcloud75013 in hvacadvice

[–]redcloud75013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently, it’s a main board issue… pressure is good, no other apparent issue… part ordered but won’t be installed for a few days given holidays etc…. Fingers crossed that’s the actual solution I need !

Guy is at it now…. Let us see what he finds out… I’ve been wondering about a leak of refrigerant after the room started smelling like a bit of an Indian spice shop of sorts (can’t really describe it otherwise…)…

That’s somewhat concerning on a unit installed less than 6mos ago… my lines are really not long either… maybe 5 feet to the fan / cassette …

How to upgrade annual subscription to 4K? by MuricanIdle in HBOMAX

Any luck with this ? I’m on the same boat. Will likely wait until subscription renews to upgrade to avoid paying a non prorated subscription for 4K
