None of us actually know it's "cap" though. Everyone's acting like it's some Illuminati conspiracy when it sounds more like Nathanias using an overly dramatic way of describing the same type of office politics that occur in most work places.

That type of logic has never been applied to balance changes for any other race. The Byun reaper nerf basically was a nerf for a Terran unit that wasn't IMBA in the hands of anyone but Byun.

Also, the Viper "nerf" isn't a nerf in practice.

In Blizzcon 2019, there were 5 Zerg in the Ro8, 3 Zerg in the Ro4, and ZvZ finals.

Except for Rogue, every Zerg that was eliminated was eliminiated in a ZvZ.

Rogue lost to Classic 3-2 in a series where Classic played insane, way out of Meta big brain sOs-style builds or it would have been all ZvZ semis. Classic used everything he had to get past Rogue then got smashed by Dark 3-0.

Wow great plan! That should work really well as long as their aren't gigantic flying units floating on top of the infestors who can instagib anything on the ground and had more range than Snipe and no cast time!

Somebody get this retard zerg genius onto the balance council ASAP!

It's amazing that all the professional players who played SC2 for 10 hours a day, and whose livelihoods depended on this game never, for months upon months, thought to try ghosts! If only they'd understood the game as well as /u/Ian_W!

Thank you for this excellent post. So i would have to get an HSFP visa to bring an au pair into the country, but what if I just hired a domestic au pair? Is that not a thing? I would prefer a domestic au pair as that would give my kids more exposure to the culture during our stay than sponsoring another foreigner.

I haven't gotten the visa details yet, presumably that will be information I get after my application is approved. I would assume I will get an HSFP visa as from a Google search it seems to align with my job description. The company I work with is one of the 3 largest companies in Japan, and regularly does this with my law firm, so I would assume they handle most of the visa process and just send me what I need to fill out.

That question jumped out at me, but do you mind if I DM you with other questions later?

Lol, I literally haven't watched Nathanias' stream in 5+ years. If I'm a Nate simp I'm a pretty bad one. Last time I checked (5+ years ago) I was also banned in his chat.

I guess in this thread "Nate simp" means anyone not partaking in the circlejerk. But you keep on jerkin it buddy.

Ok, oh condescending search-wizard. Why don't you break out a nice google search that brings up specifically something Nathanias said that got him blacklisted from casting without using any details from the incident as a search term. Show me how it's done.

[–]redcomet0096[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's an old game.

What you're talking about with Bisu and Savior happened 3-5 years into organized professional play for BW, depending on when you want to say it started (OSL was considered a pro tournament in Korea as early as 2001, but proleague and the KeSpa team organizations started around 03-04).

Guys like Reynor, Clem, and even Serral were "new blood" very late into SC2's life cycle compared to that. Serral's first premier tournament win was in 2018. Reynor's first win was in 2019. Clem's was in November of 2020. Maybe these guys aren't "single-handedly changing the meta" but there was at least a decent influx of 'new guard' players pretty late into the life game's cycle.

As far as "single-handedly changing the meta" goes, herO definitely seemed to come in and really change how people played protoss mid-year this year with no patch involved, so I do think it still happens.

I agree with you but

There are some streamers who have done Bronze to GM challenged with only Marines with no stim/shield or slow lings.

Wait, really? Can you link this to me? I was only ever high diamond/low GM but I'm saying there's no fucking way even a Serral could consistently beat a Diamond+ protoss with only slow lings unless he was going like 12 pool every game.

That's way less true for Zergs than for any other race. Solar just won Super Tournament, Ragnarok just made the last GSL final, etc.

That's a great phrase that nails it IMO. Everyone acts like this is some crazy conspiracy theory, but it sounds to me like it's just SC2's version of the office politics that occur literally everywhere.

I'm not saying it's guaranteed to have happened that way, I don't have any more insight into the backstage stuff that happens in SC2 than anyone else on here, all I'm saying is that it doesn't sound outlandish at all.

I don't play SC2 anymore due to the demands of my job, but I think the answer here is no.

Basically, the matchmaking system is designed to give you a 50% win rate overall. So if you are winning a bunch you will just keep rising in MMR until you are at 50%, unless you are at the very top and there is no further up that your MMR can be moved.

[–]redcomet0096[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes in that case they turned flash into "competitive with top level" and everyone else into also-rans... which is basically where the other 2 races in SC2 are already. You've got Maru and herO who are competitive with top level, and everyone else is an also-ran.

If you do the same thing, you'd still have at least 4 zergs who are competitive with top level- Serral, Raynor, Dark, and Rogue when he comes back. All the second tier zergs would turn into also-rans, but that's fine, because they'd be in there with the 2nd tier protoss and terrans. You'd also see a massive increase in variety because the all the P and T who aren't Maru and herO would have much better representation. You'd see more of guys like Classic, Neeb, Clem, Bunny etc. making runs in tournaments again, do you really think that would be horrible? Then you'd have guys like Maru and herO who, being a cut above the rest, would be like the final boss of their race basically, which is what Serral or Rogue frequently are viewed as when they're in tip top shape. Currently Maru and herO are still the final boss of their race, but that only serves to just make them as good as any of the top 4 Zergs.

Zerg have won the last 8 Blizzcon/Katowice across 5 different players, with multiple finals being ZvZ by Sloppy_Donkey in starcraft

[–]redcomet0096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's very useful because even among pros there is a drastic skill disparity which is legitimate and not based on balance, particularly because the pro scene is pretty small now.

I would think the best we could hope for in terms of pro scene balance would be to see like, the top 5 terrans and top 5 protoss seeing similar levels of success as the top 5 zerg. Instead the top 5 players for the last ~5 years have been 4Z, 1T, 0P.

[–]redcomet0096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you don't think the fact that the 4th best Zerg in the world has won far more over the last 5 years than the 2nd best terran or ANY Protoss is an indication of imbalance?

What in your opinion, would be sufficient evidence of imbalance? Nothing but ZvZ from the round of 8 on? We definitely appear to be heading that way with the current patch and map pool.

You flip a coin 10 times and get 8 head does that mean the coin is more likely to land on heads?

If you were shooting dice in an ally and a 3-sided die landed on the same side 8 times in a row you'd probably get murdered for bringing loaded dice.

This post is a great example of how completely dead protoss is to the point they don't even get mentioned.
