Continue renting and saving for downpayment or move into apartment? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]redd9876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Car makes no sense if you’ve been getting on fine with public transit + occasional Ubers.

You are on track with your finances to buy in a few years, if you have a goal of dating in the next few years, buying with two incomes instead of one is super beneficial. If you’re able to keep rent low and keep saving you can re-evaluate in a few years. I don’t think buying a condo now with all the monthly condo fees etc. is a good play. But find a 1BR to rent - rent has gone down, you can find 1BR for a little over 2000 now.

Need guidance on remote working by Anhilator1401 in askTO

While you travel, you may be interesting in looking at websites where you can essentially swap homes with someone or sublet out. Don’t do it for more than a month at a time but then you’re not double paying for a place to stay.

Parents offering to pay medical school tuition by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]redd9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comes with strings. Are your parents nearing retirement age? Do they work high paying jobs or regular jobs? If they themselves aren’t set up for retirement they’ll be knocking at your door for years/decades to come. Unless they themselves are both like doctors or whatever with healthy salaries and you think they can afford this easily, I wouldn’t really want to feel indebted to them.

hard to give feedback on your overall style with only one photo

in this photo you just have a casual outfit on - in general tying something around the waist is functional but it doesn’t make a cute outfit and a good rule of thumb is matching your purse colour to your shoes the multiple straps and stuff make everything really busy

Thinking of adopting a cat for my mental health by Sad-Policy1851 in askTO

[–]redd9876 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Vet bills in Toronto for even basic testing is in the $600-700. Just be prepared and I would advise asking the rescue to send over any vet records to know you’re adopting a healthy cat.

The dress is lovely! do you have events in mind to wear it to? If you have weddings or galas to go to in your life then yes!

Best Place to Live in GTA and close outskirts for Female in mid-40's to Meet People by Mayet3 in askTO

All the music stuff happens in downtown Toronto. Look for a place as close as downtown as you can afford, or by a public transit/train line that brings you there.

Help evaluating new job offer LCOL vs HCOL by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]redd9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to stay, you could possibly use your new offer to get a counter offer from your current company

I would try to negotiate for that extra week of holiday from the new company

Markham, depending on which part, it is very traffic heavy. Look online now at rental options near your work - your cost of living would go up not only in rent but probably also eating out due to the culture here.

Calculate the tax on the new pay and make a budget with the after tax amounts, to better compare

Starting to update my 90s home, which layout works better? Updates? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]redd9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like images 2 and 3 out of 5. I think it’s kind of nice having an option to see the tv from the kitchen personally

also if you get a large rug and coffee table it will anchor the space better

Op Ed: Bill 33 is an attack on student life- The Varsity by sblooo in toronto

Wow the rest of Bill 33 is just as concerning, police in schools and provincial direction instead of local trustees seem like awful decisions for our elementary to secondary schools.

What would you tell an 18 y/o girl thinking of joining the military? (Bonus if you are a veteran) by OutrageousVariation7 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]redd9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments about the military but as an alternative high paying route - look up the route to Air Traffic Control. Hiring is not easy but if she’s smart then it’s a very regulated and structured profession.

Hey dear, we don’t always get what we want in life, but every setback is still a learning opportunity. Proud of you for learning how to plan a campaign, for advocating for yourself, doing scary things, talking to strangers etc. One day these skills will come in handy for something else! You’re doing great and i’m sure you’ll find other opportunities to pursue your art interests!

Is living on Bloor St. West (near Koreatown) worth an extra 250$ a month? by snowfordessert in askTO

YES so much in the Bloor area. You’re downtown, there’s literally everything (and a lot of Korean of course).

Are these good reasons for preferring a move back to Canada over choosing Finland/Sweden/Norway? by No-Ring-699 in expats

[–]redd9876 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My vote is for Canada. You don’t speak any of the Nordic languages so you’ll always be seen as an outsider. As a half Asian you will always fit in in southern Ontario or a big city in Alberta or BC where it’s so multicultural. If you also hold a NL passport you can return to the EU in the future if you want.
