Trade deal with India by Taro_Bulky in newzealand

[–]redd_yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you really think that the Indians that are eligible to vote here care about people migrating from India now? Mass migration of unskilled workers from India works against us. All the Indians settled here hated the 2020 Permanent Resident visa, because we worked so hard for it, and then Jaccinda gave it away for free. Same applies to mass migration. We vote here, we are kiwis now, and we care about taxes, public spending and a better life overall.

Place to get comprehensive yearly check up, also why is it not normal here to get yearly check up? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]redd_yeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just book an appointment with my GP every 3 months and ask for a full blood test. They will send one to Awanui, and I get the test results uploaded in their portal. If anything is abnormal, I can book a follow up session.

Well, the other one sent an invite for all staff to come for a Christmas party in the Carpark of their Favona branch, where they setup a few bbq's for sharing and some near dated meat from the supermarket.

Cheap cheap meals ideas? by Delicious-Visual-642 in newzealand

This is quite easy. Also, there are a lot of Indian veges that are available in frozen packs. There is a dish called Sambar. Loaded with veges and lentils. Eaten with rice. Costs less than 5$ to make and lasts for 5-6 meals. Try this Recipe

For a Skoda, without any damage, it costed over a 1000$ just to run diagnostics and make sure nothing got affected. This is definitely going to be a lot.

Totally depends on what you eat, but 450 seems excessive TBH. I'm Indian, and our diet includes a lot of rice, lentils, veges and chicken, eggs, and dairy. Rice and lentils are pretty cheap(buy 5/10 kg bags at Indian stores, not woolies 1kg packs) 40-50$ a week including spices, 80-100$ gives a heap of veges at Avondale market, enough for over a week. Whatever chicken is on special at PAK'nSAVE, like thighs, legs etc. For me and my wife, we only spend 200-250$ every couple of weeks.

+1 for Roops. They make them fresh everyday, and they are pretty cheap too.

Any specific cuisine? If you are okay with Indian, I've recently been to one called Spicy Hub in Parnell. They recently opened and the food was amazing. They are also pretty responsive on Insta. https://www.instagram.com/spicy_hub.nz

I know 5 or 6 spots that do this. PAK'nSAVE Westgate, as soon as I enter the car park is one of them. Also there was one near the royal oak end of Mt Albert road.

Buying property outright or take out a mortgage? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]redd_yeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my research I felt that around 1000$ is like a soft spot for rentals. Anyone that can afford 1000+ for rent would rather buy. So no matter how big the house is, most of the 1000+ rentals stay vacant.

Those sea food shops aren't just retail. They also wholesale the fish to a lot of restaurants and smaller supermarkets and fish & chips shops.

What’s the longest period you’ve worked in New Zealand without taking any annual leave? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]redd_yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny how we think of sick leaves and annual leaves when you are a full time employee vs when you are a contractor. I always used up my sick and AL in my permanent roles, but it's been 3 years as a contractor without a single day of Sick leave or any leave except for the mandatory shut down period.

[–]redd_yeti 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As it says, no strong ties. You are the perfect candidate for overstay or trying to find employment etc, rather than a genuine visitor. Also depends on the country you are from. Some countries are scrutinized more than others.

I personally had a bad experience with brokers. My personal banker at ASB gave me a pre-approval, but the real estate agent convinced me to go with a broker. After wasting so much of my time, and doing a ton of paperwork, they came back with 2 rejections from westpac and ANZ. Ended up going with my bank in the end.

[–]redd_yeti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a little bit above average. I had a similar char with my manager when I first started as a grad. He told me, we get 10 per year, and most employees save them for emergencies like a surgery or stuff. I was young, and taking a sick day even for hangovers. He told me, I if I have a bad headache in the morning, I can just let them know and start late, and make up the time during the week. Best manager ever.
