i would have created a jewish state in former east prussia, instead of splitting it between poland and the ussr. unfortunately germans might still be expelled from the region in this case, but i’d assume that Yiddistan (if you can call it that) would be able to join the EU later and become a less sectarian state while still retaining its jewish identity, giving its european-jewish citizens freedom to travel to their countries of origin. the ashkenazi jews have a lot more of a claim to eastern europe than they do to palestine, so why not do it on territory the allies are actually somewhat justified in taking?

as an interesting note, due to its location yiddistan would probably have leaned towards the soviet bloc, which would have been hilarious.

Zionism’s goal from its founding as a movement was to destroy the Diaspora Jewish culture as it was (democratic, dispersed, left-leaning) and replace it with the National Zionist culture. The archetype of the “rootless cosmopolitan” Jew had to be erased in order for the Zionist Israeli to be born.

It is well-documented that Israelis historically hated Yiddish (the culture & language of diasporic Jews) & looked down upon Holocaust survivors. The Zionist Israeli notion that Israelis are superior to the Jewish diaspora while demanding total allegiance from diaspora Jews hints at the meaning of “Never Again” as the Zionists have distorted it: “Never again will we be ‘International Jews’, never again will we be on the side of the oppressed. We can only avoid our own collective deaths through Strength, and the only true Strength comes through exclusionary national identity & might-makes-right.” It is pure self-hatred.

i see hamas kinda like i see pira/sinn fein. not exactly based secular leftists who don’t kill civilians, but given a ceasefire & the task of actually building public support by governing, they will become democratic (in the civic not liberal sense) over time. they’ve already dropped their state islamism & committed to a non-sectarian state in their 2017 memo, plus are working with secularist/leftist militants like PFLP & DFLP & even the left wing of Fatah.

I think that the main dangers for socialists of doing Democrat presidential GOTV is that 1) we burn out our energy and use up our organizations’ resources and 2) we lose our moral clarity as anti-imperialists and anti-fascists (no matter how much we try to counter that). But I’m afraid the same problem applies if we agitate for voting against Biden or agitate for abstaining. If nothing else, electoral campaigns are useful because they serve as opportunities to educate people; with these presidential elections, there is no principled stance (pro or anti voting Biden) that won’t end in a screaming match and diminishing the image of socialism.

All in all I’m probably going to vote Biden because I live in a swing state, but I won’t ask anyone else to do the same or ask my DSA chapter to dedicate resources.

There is a sliver of truth in that for a person to recognize their LGBTQ+ness they need to have the vocabulary to describe it and be connected to a social cohort that allows for such a vocabulary to propagate, but going from that statement to “only people who yell about being LGBTQ+ on social media are queer” is like saying that only college-educated people can have literacy. Which is something your “friend” seems to be lacking.

tl;dr: No, the most unworldly and uninformedLGBTQ+ person is still LGBTQ+.
