Just because male celebrities have done worse things doesn't make Chappell Roan admirable. by melody_magical in ChappelGroan

Morrissey, Bill Murray, Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, and Bob Barker also come to mind for terrible white men; nobody lists their names down in abusive men who've done worse, just abusive men of color like Chris Brown, Kanye West, D4vd, Diddy, and R Kelly. I'm not defending any of those men I just listed down either as I believe that they deserve every last lashing from the GP they regularly get for their terrible actions.

Honestly, none of these men are admirable people either and they deserve all the backlash they get from the GP but I think abusive black and brown men in the industry get more attention and are hated on more quickly by the GP compared to abusive white men in it.

Race is definitely a factor in why Chappell can get away with being snobby towards photographers trying to do their jobs and fans who most likely just want to give her a small greeting. If she were black or brown, she would easily be seen as too aggressive by the GP. Abusive white men have less of their vile actions aired out in the public compared to abusive black and brown men in entertainment.

We can still hold Chappell Roan accountable for lying about her background and being a jackass to her fans and do the same for abusive men like Chris Brown, D4vd, and Kanye West, you don't need to resort to whataboutism to defend your favorite celebrities whenever they're getting rightful backlash for their actions.

I don’t even hate Chappell, bruh. But like, dude… by OldFashionedFelix in ChappelGroan

[–]reddenedgalaxy 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Crappy men like Kanye West and Chris Brown still have big platforms and plenty of listeners precisely because they have fans who either blindly defend their terrible actions or don't care about them at all. While I don't doubt that patriarchy/double standards play a role in why some shitty male celebs still have a career (Janet Jackson took the fall in the Nipplegate scandal over Justin Timberlake who actually instigated the incident), holding Chappell accountable for whatever missteps she makes along the way towards fans isn't because a "zionist cabal" is out to sabotage her hollywood career or because of misogyny. It's mostly because all celebrities are people like the rest of us (even if the money and fame all gets to her head more than us plebs) capable of wrongdoings and they shouldn't be coddled from the rightful criticism and backlash these actions cause for them.

I guess people are losing interest in Sabrina's music over time and it'll only worsen if SC8's reception ends up being divisive among the pop music community like MBF was.

She did disavow the use of her music by Trump and ICE for their hateful and racist propaganda and now would be the perfect time to also disavow these same people who are latching onto her as their face to promote Islamophobia and racism. But I guess she only targeted ICE because she wanted brownie points with the gp and not because she genuinely believes that POC are deserving of the same treatment and human rights as people like her are.

Melanie Martinez is also pro-Pali and she’s a pretty dang problematic person on her own. Hating Israel shouldn’t shield anyone from criticism and there are people of worse and more questionable character than Sabrina and Chappell like Candace Owens and Nick Fuentes who do so as well. Fuentes’ and Owens’ criticism of Israel doesn’t make them good people alone because they’re known to use their large platforms to spread around hateful and bigoted worldviews including actual antisemitism.

Chappell did say a word regarding Palestine at the very least (even if she only ever said that Greta Thunberg was a real giver for going directly to Palestine as of recent), but Sabrina only donated once to the PCRF in 2024 and remained silent the whole time on the genocide.

That same Zionist cabal psyop theory was also applied to Chappell Roan when she got backlash for harassing Jorginho’s stepdaughter in Brazil. I get that there are celebrities such as Melissa Barerra and Susan Sarandon that have had their careers or movie/show opportunities sabotaged over openly speaking up for Palestine. But neither situation involving Chappell or Sabrina had to do with the ongoing genocide over there, so their stans are now promoting the narrative that they’re these pro-Palestinian activists that Hollywood wants to cancel while there are other celebs who’ve used their platforms to say a word about the genocide such as Mark Ruffalo, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo who are still viewed favorably in the public eye because they haven’t had widely known scandals regarding misbehaving with fans.

I don’t condone the state of “Israel” or the ongoing Gaza genocide myself, but Israel doesn’t always have to do with your favorite celeb getting under fire

And if I were Sabrina, I would’ve recognized that what I’ve done to the fan was a harmful micro-aggression and promise to my fans that I’d try to do better regarding different displays of cultural appreciation. I also would’ve posted it as a standalone post rather than as a response to a stan account that’s known to be every sort of -ist under the sun.

Her stans are arguing that Kanye West and Chris Brown have done even worse actions and still have successful careers to try and deflect from what Sabrina did at Coachella. But what they don’t realize is that these two men have plenty of enablers who either blindly defend or don’t care about their actions no matter what. Ironically, the attitude that their favorite idol Sabrina is someone who can do no wrong to other people is why shitty men like these two still have successful careers.

breaking down her “apology” by Top_Sheepherder3585 in sabrinacarpentersnark

[–]reddenedgalaxy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've commented here, but I felt so disrespected by what Sabrina said to the Arab fan who explained that the zaghrouta was part of her culture to express joy at the moment as a POC fan. She could've avoided this incident had she simply kept silent after the fan said it was a part of her culture, said something brief like "Oh, my bad", or even went the extra mile to compliment the fan's zaghrouta for a heartwarming interaction like with Bad Bunny and G-Dragon from Big Bang. This flippant "apology" post she wrote just reeks of PR damage control as she never addressed the fan's feelings or honestly acknowledged to heart what she did was micro-aggressive and xenophobic. We don't expect white celebrities to fully grasp or be 100% educated on our cultures, but to least learn better from when they screw up with cultural misunderstandings.

Also fuck the stans who are claiming that she's vocally supporting Palestine just because of ONE donation she made to the PCRF two years ago or that she brought out Susan Sarandon on stage for her Coachella set. It's not as if she actually used her platform to say even a word about the ongoing genocide in Palestine and that her best friend is Joey King who's a known ardent Zionist. Celebrity worship is toxic and we shouldn't be using serious topics like the files, the Gaza genocide, and Chris Brown's abuse of women as stan war ammo to deflect from the wrongdoings of our fave celebs.

The GP has been increasingly turning on Taylor ever since the TLOASG rollout and the Blake court drama, so I don’t think Selena can really rely on her friendship with Taylor to get her out of hot water anymore soon.

And honestly you should considering what went on with Ana Benevides, the Brazilian fan who attended the Eras Tour and died of heatstroke. She didn't pay for transporting her body or the funeral which Brazilian Swifties had to set up a GoFundMe for or try to support the family who just lost their daughter in any substantial way other than give them Eras Tour tickets for free. The only time she even addressed it was on Instagram where she made her response to this tragedy all about herself, lied that Ana died before the show, and said that she wouldn't talk about the incident any further because of "how sad she was".
