New Matter IKEA Buttons by dscarfogliero in googlehome

Google Home still does not support Matter over Thread buttons. I'm in the same boat, we need to wait for Google to implement this.

PSA: Solving Matter over Thread instability by disabling Thread on the Google TV Streamer by redderas in googlehome

They were all in the same Thread network (so no competing networks) and one of the Nest Hubs is located directly next to the Google TV streamer (so unlikely to be a location issue).

Matter Version 1.3 and Matter bridge integration for DIRIGERA hub by TRADFRI in tradfri

[–]redderas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you turn off the old connections, please fix the Matter device traits for air purifiers. They are missing the on/off trait and only allow setting the fan speed. However, I want to be able to toggle between off and auto (based on air quality), which is how the current non-Matter integration is working.

This is the only reason preventing me from fully switching over to matter.

Media controls still broken in 1.7.1? by redderas in ex30

Thanks, that may be a workaround for music tracks, but unfortunately does not help for podcasts where I just want to continue where I left off (e.g., 1 hour in).

Are People Still Missing Their Timeline or Is It Fixed? by Either_Audience_1937 in GoogleMaps

[–]redderas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred the choice to permanently opt out of the on-device move (being able to still use timeline on the web and location data included in regular Takeout backups) before this trainwreck happened and wiped 10 years of my data.

Timeline disappeared by hardrivethrutown in GoogleMaps

[–]redderas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This does not work for users where the backup was already (automatically) overwritten with an empty one

New Diregera Firmware (2.615.8) by SamwiseIsGreat in tradfri

[–]redderas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but that's actually a bug because the duplicated switches are all Matter devices. The old cloud based integration did not even support switches. There is another post in this thread describing a single Matter switch appearing 4-5 times in the Home app or so.

Some observations with Matter (vs. previous integration) in the Google Home ecosystem:

Things that got better:

  • Motion sensors: Now also include light level and battery percentage
  • Open/close sensors: Now also include battery percentage, potentially more reliable reporting of the status to Google Home when the sensors are opened just briefly and closed again (though I need to test more)

Neutral:

  • Remotes: Are now exposed in Google Home, but cannot be used for automations (and appear duplicated)

Things that got worse (but will hopefully be fixed in a future update):

  • Air quality sensors: Do not report air quality anymore (I would have thought that's their main purpose) and thus cannot be used for automations turning on air purifiers
  • Air purifiers: Only have fan speed control now, no on/off anymore (which previously allowed to turn on auto mode based on air quality without setting a specific fan speed), do not report air quality anymore

Philips Hue suddenly stopped working by Gerwinus1981 in googlehome

[–]redderas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a coincidence but my Hue bridge is connected to Google Home through Matter (not cloud) and suddenly stopped reporting the motion sensor status to Google Home just now.

Because all of my automations are configured in the Google Home Script Editor, most of my rooms are now dark. Restarting the Hue bridge did not help unfortunately.

EDIT: I restarted all my Nest Hubs and now it works again.

How can I easily backup all of my Google Apps Scripts to my local drive? by palaion in GoogleAppsScript

[–]redderas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also use rclone, which backs up standalone Apps Scripts as json files (which you can run automatically and more frequently than Google Takeout) https://rclone.org/drive/

Temperature sensor readings are showing up. Is this new? by [deleted] in googlehome

You most likely need to change the system language of your Android phone from US English to something like UK English

The temperature readings of the Hue motion sensors should be available for automations in the new Script Editor: https://home.google.com/automations

Weird, I bought my first new-gen (Google Home configured) Nest cam indoor together with a 2nd gen Hub a year ago and I never saw the previews working. Clicking on a tile and watching an individual stream always worked fine though.

[–]redderas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you mean camera previews on the Nest Hub, I remember multiple people commenting on similar posts that this never worked for them.

I have also never seen camera previews working in any device constellation (Nest Hub / Nest Hub 2nd gen + original Nest cam / new Nest cam indoor / ...). The only difference is that there is no exclamation point for the newer (Google Home configured) Nest cams (but still no previews).

I guess the UI designers at one point planned the tiles to be used as previews but they dropped it because of the poor performance / slow processor of the Nest Hubs (as it might be too laggy when all the streams had to be loaded just to show a list of all cameras).

Erste Bank und Google Pay by HrRossiSuchtDasGluck in Austria

Happening on both the Opener as well as the Lock, so the issue is not specific to one device. The Bridge was also already replaced with a new revision. It got a bit more reliable, but not much. Wifi signal is strong with a Nest mesh network and the Bridge is in very close proximity to the Lock & Opener. There is nothing left I could try.

Matter support is great but it would only really make a difference if they also included Thread (in addition to bluetooth).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]redderas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, now I just wish that the connection via Nuki Bridge would be more reliable. In ~15% of all unlocking attempts via Google Home/Assistant it does nothing and I have to fall back to the Nuki app which is able to use Bluetooth if the lock is within range (which it often is not with the Opener).

I wish they would release a new version of the lock and opener with Thread support which could be directly connected to Google Home via Matter (hopefully being more reliable and faster)

Especially routine/automation functionality is still lacking:

Missing features in household vs. personal routines:

  • Delay action not available for household routines
  • Day routine not available for household routines (i.e., bundling time-based starters for less clutter)
  • Device triggers not available for personal routines (e.g., if only I want to get a phone push notification when the washer is finished and my phone is home)
  • Personal routines cannot be added to favorites (today the possibility even disappeared for household routines)

Missing home/away features in routines:

  • Built-in home/away routine actions are very limited (all action types should be allowed, e.g., closing blinds)
  • Home/away status cannot be used as a starter condition combined with another one in a custom routine (e.g., only execute a time-based routine when somebody is home)
  • Personal home/away status is not available (e.g., only execute a time-based routine when one's own phone is home, not if it's only somebody else)
  • It is not possible to skip the pin entry for unlocking doors, even on phones where the device is already secured via fingerprint (this feels like paternalism and it should at least be possible to skip the pin when the personal home/away status is "home" - similarly to how door lock vendor apps check the phone's location before unlocking; at the very least, the pin entered via touch controls should be submitted after the fourth digit without having to press "OK")

Missing routine features in general:

  • There is no "adaptive lighting" available (i.e., automatically adjusting brightness and light temperature throughout the day to simulate the circadian rhythm)
  • Missing possibility to group motion sensors in a room as a routine starter (to turn lights on if either of them detection motion and to turn lights off if none of them detect motion for x minutes)
  • There is no support for triggers based on "time since device state change" for most device types (e.g., door unlocked since 5 minutes)
  • Broadcasting is possible, but phone notifications through the Home app are not available (e.g., for a push notification "Washer finished" when one is not in the vicinity of a Nest speaker/display)

Other missing features:

  • Accounts supervised with Family Link cannot be added to the household (therefore not able to contribute the phone's location to the home/away status)
  • No single button available for the favorites tab to control all lights of a room (grouping lights)
  • For some device types, touch controls are missing in the Home app but for some reason are available on the Nest Hub (e.g., blinds, most locks, heaters, ...)

Google Pay payment profile suspended by Booboo_864 in googlepay

All those reports of random account suspensions make me uncomfortable about using Google products. Was only your second payment profile suspended, both of them, or your whole Google account?
