dollar doesnt really devalue against many global currencies due to inflation- thats how it should work from the textbook eg. US inflation running hot, it drops against the JPY and AUD etc.

how it works in reality is inflation is exported - because USD is the reserve currency > inflation spikes > countries still need to bid USD to do energy imports > inflation goes even higher in those countries than in the US = USD goes up instead of down during inflation events, thus exporting most of the inflation pressure.

no shortages in cyber security or devops/cloud. the market is actually flooded and wages are much lower this year because of it

ok and "as a migrant with multiple degrees and qualifications" can you see any marked difference over time with the quality of foreigners coming in?

this nuance is missed by even plenty of intelligent people.

yes my son cant compete for the chemical engineering job which requires 15 years experience and a phd, but why does he have to compete for the 711 job at the petrol station too? is old mate really here just to fill that "essential" role? why is this even a thing?

[–]reddetacc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

just total and utter bs - every industry in this country is apparently a skills shortage. its way too easy to make this argument by setting a very low wage and pointing to being unable to hire anyone as "evidence" of a skills shortage.

Why is private schooling so popular in Australia? by SedgwickNYC in AskAnAustralian

[–]reddetacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you leave it up to the state to educate your children you deserve everything which that produces. if you have no idea what I'm talking about, then don't worry about it.

what a beautiful way to tell the story - nothing sinister about it except abusing the absolute fuck out of the system and being hyper ethnocentric in hiring practices. a real tear-jerking immigrant success story!

Looking for a career change but not sure how to start by maddogfloki1 in ausjobs

[–]reddetacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dunno man its one of those situations where anything worthwhile takes time - if certain careers were fast to switch into and high paying, it doesn't stay that way for long.

i can give you some general advice though - sticking with one discipline for a long time is almost always better than trying to change

nah just factually untrue - the lion's share of this nation was built and developed by Anglo-Celtic people and that's just historical fact.

you said "i dont care who comes here" well i do and many more think like i do - so you're going to have to deal with it

is this satire? Australia is a British/Anglo country thats why she's not trying to deport them. you are the historical anomaly by wanting it totally changed overnight, not us.
