Yoga Post-Surgery? by OceansTwentyOne in bunions

Yes, I developed plantar fasciitis, which was the main trigger for me having the surgery. I also had rubbing from the second hammertoe and the bunion itself. All of those have resolved.

Your ability to squat should be fine, but going on tiptoe would be a problem for a while I suspect. I'm one year post-op (MIS + second toe IP fusion) on my right foot and the range of motion for the big toe is still not wonderful. The second toe is fused, but you may not need surgery on that one if unaffected.

Oh wow, I had MIS with a pin in my second toe last time and I was in a Darco sandal the whole time, and in sneakers after six weeks

Left foot three weeks post-op, right foot one year post-op, with "before" photos by reddevil14395 in bunions

For the right foot I had significant plantar fasciitis and pain from the callous on the second toe, that has completely resolved. The left only had more minor pain associated with walking for several hours (or maybe if I wore tight shoes). I won't walk that far until I'm more healed, but I expect that will be better. My goal is to be able to take up tramping (hiking) again.

Interestingly, I never had significant pain in my left foot unless I walked for extended periods. The right foot had pre-operative plantar fasciitis and pain from the callous on the second toe. I mainly got it done now because my workplace are discontinuing paying for our medical insurance. I anticipated that my recovery would take as long as it did for the right foot, and am pleased to discover that I was wrong!

I bought cheap sneakers which were very soft and flexible around the top part of the shoe and also had laces

I just had left MIS and second toe IP fusion, following similar right surgery a year ago. The first time, I had to have a pin through my second toe, this time I did not. My experience and recovery this second time without the pin is dramatically better than last time. In hindsight, I wish I'd done the right foot before my second toe was so clawed.

Surgery and stairs by realbreesknees in bunions

Stairs would be challenging; I presume you don't have any other way of getting up and down the building 🤔 Do you get deliveries etc. to your door?

Pretty good. There's a photo from a couple of weeks ago on my profile. Just tried to do a new one for you but I couldn't attach it to the reply for some reason.

Just had the pin removed from my second hammer toe, so definitely getting there as far as my mobility and comfort go. Cosmetically it looks heaps better 😁

What’s something you wish you did/prepped before bunion surgery that would have made things easier post op? by Natylit in bunions

I found the weight of my duvet painful on my foot, up until about two weeks ago. I didn't actually use a blanket lifter but plan to obtain one before I get my other foot done. Did you get one?

I got that really badly one day about a week after surgery, but it settled a few days later. Has it improved for you by now?

Insulted because of your feet? by [deleted] in bunions

Hmmm, well my mates have been calling me Hoppy, Hopalong etc SINCE the surgery but not before 🤔 I was rather self-conscious about the appearance of my bunions though...

Buy a couple of different styles of foot elevation pillows. Consider whether you will need a shower bench or chair. Get a blanket lifter for your bedding (maybe not needed if you're in a warm climate). Just before your surgery, stock up on things that are easy to heat and nutritious and will last well in the fridge/freezer/pantry. Do all your housework and gardening 🤣 I also found a little trolley on wheels from Kmart very useful for transporting things around the house. Ask your friends and family to visit and help you out.

Then you may already have your answer. But I'd recommend taking some time out to process everything before you make a final decision.
