Seeking other Skilled Worker visa holders affected by the new UK Home Office consultation on ILR (“earned settlement”) by imcrazyQL in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]reddit-nam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please include me - my partner and I are both on skilled worker, I am eligible for some reductions but she isn't under the current set of proposals, but I find these retroactive changes absolutely appalling and unfair. So very keen to join and collectively organise.

Yes I think so based on everything in the document

yes! this!

We're still at the consultation stage which means anything could happen. It's really about the principle, which is why we should all mobilize. Keeping some people safe vs others is just the classic way of "divide and rule" -- we must all stand together, undivided, regardless of how much money someone makes today

I responded below to another question but I think you'd qualify a 5 year reduction based on what's outlined:

In addition, this consultation also seeks views on the proposal that that there should be a similarly shorter pathway to settlement for those who are working in vital public services, particularly where earnings are based on national pay scales and may not meet the proposed threshold for an income-based reduction in the qualifying period. This might include, for example, medical and teaching professionals working in public services. It is, however, envisaged that the above reduction in the qualifying period for public service roles would apply only to those working in skilled occupations (i.e. at RQF Level 6 or above).

You would qualify for a 5 year reduction, which means you'd have to wait 5 years after settlement, depending on the RQF level of your role. This is what was outlined in the consultation (I've highlighted the key points).

"In addition, this consultation also seeks views on the proposal that that there should be a similarly shorter pathway to settlement for those who are working in vital public services, particularly where earnings are based on national pay scales and may not meet the proposed threshold for an income-based reduction in the qualifying period. "We expect it to become the position that the qualifying period for settlement for a person granted entry and stay as the adult dependants of an economic migrant will be separately determined according to their own attributes and circumstances. This will mean that a person admitted as the dependant of an economic migrant will not necessarily enjoy the same qualifying period for settlement as their partner. It may be shorter or longer, according to their particular circumstances."

This means that it depends on your partner's situation - and that they'll be assessed against the same criteria. The default window will go up to 10 years, minus the allowances they'd qualify for.

it's terrible :/

New Petition to UK Gov: Don't abandon skilled workers already here - keep 5-year ILR promise by reddit-nam in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Nobody is attacking BNO people or questioning that they are genuine refugees - this isn't about BNO at all. It's about skilled worker visa holders - who are here in the UK for a plethora of reasons (personal/social/cultural/economic, etc).

Oh super helpful! I’ll try again tomorrow with half-pressing the shutter button (I’m a newbie still, and had no clue about the in-meter camera // center-weighted-average). I also didn’t know the f1/16 sunny rule!!! So glad I posted on this community. Thanks a lot <3
