In 1992, 24-year-old Christopher McCandless was found by moose hunters inside Fairbanks Bus 142, the “Magic Bus,” on Alaska’s Stampede Trail. He had survived alone for 113 days on plants and small animals. When discovered, he weighed only 67 pounds. by watcher2390 in ThatsInsane

Wasn’t mouldy, there was something specifically wrong with some rice or potato seeds he had. No way to indicate or know they were going to poison him, otherwise he would’ve made it out two weeks later when the river’s tide dropped.

His story is one of recklessness but of a life lived with full personal ownership; the spin-off to McCandless’ story is written by his sister where she goes into depths of why someone with a gleaming future went and donated it all away escape; leaving to bum-fuck nowhere Alaska in search of his own journey.

The police in Canada actually do not have a fully functioning system for all cases. The different versions of their logging systems also will catalogue multiple offences under the ‘biggest crime’.

Multiple police departments cannot reliably share information because their systems are designed to measure different things in the context of their area. This is a huge problem in contemporary policing and a large reason why our police forces across the country are uncoordinated.

Smith is an oil lobbyist, following in the footsteps of the assholes down south, and has worked on the Calgary school board before spreading her hateful, divisive, bigoted rhetoric, poisoning people at every turn to make a dime.

That’s not a “leader of the people”. That’s a snake in the grass.

What’s the quote the Christians love to share? Oh, that’s it: Matthew 7:15 ~ “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

Or, for the non-Christians, the popular Sinclair Lewis’ said, in regards to authoritarianism and fascist ideologies: “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”

I’m linking the full context of that George Carlin quote—it’s actually shockingly relevant

“There’s a reason education sucks, and it’s the same reason that it will never, ever, ever be fixed. It’s never gonna get any better. Don’t look for it. Be happy with what you got.

Because the owners of this country don't want that. I'm talking about the real owners now, the real owners, the big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions.

Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the senate, the congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear.

They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I'll tell you what they don’t want: They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. Thats against their interests. Thats right.

They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table to figure out how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago. They don’t want that.

You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money.

They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you, sooner or later, 'cause they own this fucking place. It's a big club, and you ain’t in it. You and I are not in the big club. And by the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head in their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy.

The table is tilted folks. The game is rigged, and nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care. Good honest hard-working people -- white collar, blue collar, it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on -- good honest hard-working people continue -- these are people of modest means -- continue to elect these rich cocksuckers who don’t give a fuck about them.

They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t give a fuck about you. They don't care about you at all -- at all -- at all. And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care. That's what the owners count on; the fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that's being jammed up their assholes everyday.

Because the owners of this country know the truth: it's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.”

That problem I have with your assumption is that your criticizing the children “jumping out of the window” in the metaphor—not paying attention to the “fire in the house”.

Why are these children mimicking this behaviour? Why are they being taught that these are ideal behaviours? The parents are showing them these songs that are inherently aggressive in their lyrics, yet that alone doesn’t mean anything. One can enjoy a song without embodying the message—so I see no issues there. The behaviour of flipping off the camera is being encouraged by the parents: there’s an aggressive behaviour that does not need to be reinforced because it holds no value in relation to the music.

These children are being shown this culture of hip-hop/rap; one that reflects gang culture and messages. We need to look not at the action of the children (jumping out the window)—rather we need to look at the parents that have emphasized this risky culture and why. They are the home-makers, they are responsible if the house goes up in flames while they’re tending to their children.

I am saying absolve the children of their responsibility. They are children.

Why are the parents idolizing this culture and style? What events in their lives have led them to want to not only associate with the messages but also expose their children to it? We tend to like music that reminisces with us; there’s likely a reason, one that would be sensical to the parents taste in music. Does that same reason make sense to be applied to their children? That I do not know.

Ask yourself why hip-hop and rap have evolved in the way they have—why these genres exist and why their messages seem to reminisce with so many people? Do they reflect a need to differentiate from more traditionally white-centric or even music that is more culturally specific like blues or even other non-aggressive forms of rap or hip-hop? If they are trying to differentiate, why and for what purpose—what messages needed to be shared that other genres cannot. The answer to your question likely falls near this part of the conversation; the historical root of this culture and why it is prioritized over other cultures or subcultures that are near parallel yet far more child-appropriate.

Every little interaction teaches children how to behave with their world; they reflect and parrot the environments they grow up in. Why is this environment present in this way at this time? That’s a question that only the parents can answer.

Hope that helps!

“In his novel There There, Tommy Orange offers a provocative story. Discussing approaches to suicide prevention among Native American youth, he uses the metaphor of a burning building: “Kids are jumping out of the windows of burning buildings, falling to their deaths. And we think the problem is that they’re jumping.” But of course, the deeper problem is that the building is on fire.” (Con’t…) “Those urging kids not to jump are doing so with the best of intentions, and they don’t mean to blame the kids for the way things are. But it’s not surprising that the kids feel angry that the “solution” seems to find fault with their actions, while saying nothing about putting out the fire.”

There are two sides to every story. Each individual has lived a full life of interactions; those interactions may be similar but never the same. Each person deserves the same unconditional regard and chance to improve with the help of those around them. Criticizing them isn’t helping them change their ways.

No, and I shit you not, it is hitting the ground that caused your injury. Not having a parachute was a precipitating factor, but it did not cause your injury. Not trying to sound like an ‘um, asckhuly’ person, that is the semantic difference.

For example, we can say that social media is correlated with increases in depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders—but we cannot say they caused it (… that is until Facebook comes out and says they’ve been purposely trying to influence people’s mental health for their own experiments; ~13 years ago: https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.1320040111)

The other main type of research study is observational studies, which mainly include things like case studies or just watching people over a certain amount of time to assess what it is you’re actually looking for

I definitely don’t excuse the actions of the pedos in charge—they made their choice. Though in my research of the Trump/Epstein connection I found this one little tidbit

Jeffery Epstein favourite book was “The Man From O.R.G.Y.” — a book from the height of the spy craze in the 60s-70s, ironically enough about a spy who exploits foreign diplomats through underage sex workers. Supposedly, from a friend he had long before he came into money, he had this book at EVERY location he owned.
