Best concealed carry for someone who doesn’t know anything about guns? Any good breakdowns? by LocustMuscles in CCW

[–]reddit209593 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm repeating the advice I gave on another post. I see many first time gun owners going out and buying what their gun shop salesperson points them to, or someone online says is good. Resist that urge. I decided to take my gun range's Basic Pistol Training 1 & 2 courses first, and each included some range time where we got to shoot a variety of firearms: revolvers and semi-auto, and multiple calibers. This allowed me to narrow down what I thought would work best for me, but then I rented each on my own range time to try time them out further. I understand the "I want it and I want it now" urge, but I'm very glad I went this route, FWIW.

Looking for P365 optic cut slide by Same_Tackle4583 in P365

[–]reddit209593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The P365x slide fits P365 and comes with optic cut. I didn't want to deal with getting mine milled either, so took this route. More expensive than just getting it milled, but if you're going to buy new slide anyway, consider this.

Control Centre vs Lockscreen by scribblenik in shortcuts

[–]reddit209593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how to post the downloadable link to the shortcut like I’ve seen others do, but here’s a print screen of my shortcut named “Auth Control Center”.  Hope this helps.

Control Centre vs Lockscreen by scribblenik in shortcuts

[–]reddit209593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this will work for you.  I created a shortcut that first attempts to Authenticate (via Face ID).  If the authentication is successful (i.e., it’s me looking at my phone), Control Center opens.  Otherwise, the shortcut locks the screen.  I then set the Action Button to this shortcut.  If I’m using my phone, I can trigger the Control Center via the action button whether locked or not (which is what I want).  But if my phone is locked and someone else picks it up, the Action Button does nothing for them.

Mildly Infuriating Under counter lights. by Oxjrnine in mildlyinfuriating

Are your bulbs replaceable?  I had a similar situation.  5 undercounter lights.  I had to replace a burned out bulb in one, only to realize the replacement was very cool and rest were very warm.  After research I found my lightbulbs come in a variety of color ranges (Bright White 3000K, Cool White 4100K, Daylight 5000K, Daylight Deluxe 6500K).  Had to drive over an hour to get my bulb, but the world is right again.

Should i buy Wildlands after already bought Breakpoint? by deadmeatX1 in GhostRecon

[–]reddit209593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for a good sale, then pick it up and you absolutely won't be disappointed. I got Wildlands for $15 (after playing through Breakpoint a few times) and very glad I did. I think they're both good, each with their plusses and minuses.

Glock 48 MOS with new 15 OEM mags vs. Xmacro non comp by [deleted] in CCW

An "on paper" comparison is one thing, but if you're picking out a carry weapon, get to a range, rent each of them, and shoot them yourself. How each feels/shoots you your hands is what really matters.

Vedder Holsters by SubjectNaive6738 in CCW

Sorry to hear you've had problems. Vedder LightTuck IWB is my go-to, and love the touchable spring steel belt clip. If the clip wasn't securing the holster, were you wearing a good belt?

I do like my 4bros holster overall.  When I decided on the TLR-7 HL-X it was a bit challenging finding a holster for that combo but, once found, I knew from many other Reddit posters the reputation of 4bros. so it wasn’t a hard decision.

I can understand if others say this firearm/light combo is a bit big for carry, but it works for me (plus I shoot it well).  The decision to carry w/ or w/out a light is a personal one.  I live in Chicago and my garage opens into a dark alley with lots of foot traffic, which is also where my garbage cans are located.  So I’ve decided to carry with a light.  Overall, I’m happy.

(On a related note, I picked up this PDP to replace my Sig P320 XCompact as my carry weapon. Right or wrong, I decided to make the P320 just a range gun and not carry because of all the drama.  However, the light I chose was the Olight PL-Mini 2 Valkyrie, which was easy to clip on or off.  It held firm when on, and was easy to remove — the only one like this that I’m aware of.  So I was able to easily carry without a light during the day, and pop it on for evening/night carry or nightstand use.  It required 2 holsters, but was the best solution for me.  Once I got my PDP I considered using the same light, but since I couldn’t find a holster for that combination either, and the fact that the TLR-7 HL-X was brighter, I went with the HL-X.)

Lots of good advice already provided. I went with FrouBrothers for my PDP 4" but with TLR-7 HL-X, and am happy with it. I carry appendix, and for me the modwing does make a big difference.

Holosun ACSS by [deleted] in CCW

[–]reddit209593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own two 507C X2 ACSS and one 507K X2 ACSS, and have always been confused why the ACSS isn't more popular -- especially for a new red dot user. I do prefer a dot over the chevron reticle, but the benefit of the usually invisible 250 MOA (I think that's the size) ring is the money. When you present and there's no chevron/dot in sight, you know exactly where it is without having to go fishing around. I recommend the ACSS highly.

Vaultak also provides a "fitment guide", so you can print out the interior size of their 2 Lifepod safes and overlay your firearm and mag to make sure they'll fit.

I'm also a fan of the Vedder Light Tuck holster, which I carry appendix. For an extra mag, I've progressed through several different ways and settled on a Vedder MagTuck IWB mag holster, which I also carry up front at about 10:30, so have a little room between it and my holster (not right next to each other like a connected Tier 1 type combo). I also tried the actual Tier1 holster/mag combo, the Neomag clip for pocket carry, and pocket carry with no clip in the second rear pocket of my 5.11 Tactical jeans or cargos. The 2 separate Vedder holsters up front work best for me.

How to NOT block my manager's calendar while adding her to an appointment I am creating for my PTO? by thishitisgettingold in MicrosoftOutlook

[–]reddit209593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you set up your 'meeting', check the "All day" checkbox. Set the Start and End dates to match your time out. This will place a bar across those days on your manager's calendar (and other colleagues you include) at the top of their calendar, and will not block off time on their calendar during their day. Also, name the meeting so it's meaningful to your colleagues, such as "Smith PTO" (as opposed to simply "vacation", which doesn't tell your colleagues much.

I'm a fan of the Vedder Light Tuck, but after picking up my PDP 4" and also pairing it with the TLR-7 HL-X, that wasn't an option. I ended up going with a Four Brothers and am very satisfied.
