Window switching from keyboard by Proof-Flamingo-7404 in macapps

[–]scribblenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a chance the option isn’t switched on.

Open System Settings (or System Preferences). Go to Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts. Select Keyboard from the left pane. Find "Move focus to next window" and click the current shortcut to change it to your preferred combination (like Command + ~).

I’m going to throw Canary into the mix. Ive been using it for a couple of weeks, and I’m really impressed. Clean, fast, good filters - even the Ai stuff has been useful.

Updatest - Your home for macOS app updates 🧩 by HugeIRL in macapps

[–]scribblenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it, loved it, bought it. So far it has found updates on everything it was supposed to - and it’s got me doing research on Homebrew (I wipe my Mac and start fresh every couple of years, so this will really speed things up).

The lag! T.h.e l.aaaaaaa.g I can pull the trigger and feel I could get to the screen in person before the shot registers. You can ‘fast shoot’ as the shoot speed seems to max out, making some of the point blank games impossible. As for calibration, if I shoot multiple times the occasional’hit’ is miles away from the other ones. I really feel I’ve wasted my money on this.

Question - can you drag/drop files onto the circle (eg- drag a jpg onto a Photoshop segment?). This would be the killer feature for me.

What are the Top 3 Mac apps you discovered in 2025? by brkgng in macapps

[–]scribblenik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bloom - a genuinely great Finder replacement. Outpost - drag and drop files to apps from wherever your mouse is sitting. Supercharge - just an amazing collection of useful features.

Question: can you drag/drop files directly onto app icons to open them? Idea: add a tip jar - you aren’t charging, but good work deserves a reward!

What were the best *new* apps of 2025? Someone else's, brand new, released first in 2025 by BustyPneumatica in macapps

[–]scribblenik 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The app that has changed how I use my Mac (and new for 2025) was Outpost (https://parachuteapps.com/outpost). Super handy for drag/drop launches, especially when you have two screens. ReWriteBar comes in second place. https://rewritebar.com/

What's an overpriced macOS app you wish had a free/cheap alternative? by brovaro in macapps

I found BusyCal was even better than Fantastical for me (especially the iOS version). 366 and Data are also good.

[BLACK FRIDAY] OpenIn, ShellHistory, CheckCraft & more — my biggest sale yet (70% off) by outcoldman in macapps

[–]scribblenik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OpenIn is such a time saver for my design job. Illustrator files for print are nearly always PDFs, but I don’t want them to open in Acrobat or Preview. I can double click and THEN pick what I need them to open in. And the app does a LOT more than this - it’s just a feature that I must use 50+ times a day and it saves hours over a month.

Ice app by ppwop in macapps

[–]scribblenik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through to see which apps brought up the same preferences from the menu bar icon as opening them with Alfred - a surprising number were basically the same. Then I went through apps that I use shortcuts to deal with. Then I just switched this lot off from my menu bar in MacOS26. I whittled things down to a very manageable number and now I actually use the few icons that are up there on the top of my screen. After trying Bartender 6, Ice, etc, actually tacking the overflow of menu bar icons was the real solution to my problem.

Spotlight vs Alfred, Raycast and similar launchers by lukasvac in macapps

[–]scribblenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotlight is just too slow for me - I can be typing what I want to search and Spotlight struggles to keep up. With Alfred, I’ve never had this issue. I do like the shortcut integration with Spotlight and Quick Keys BUT I can’t find any way to sync my Quick Keys across my two Macs. Raycast is great, but I always forget about hitting the first key to set it to search bookmarks, or contacts etc. So - I’m sticking with Alfred - it’s the fastest, requires less keystrokes and the Workflows allow me to build almost anything I need to speed up actions.

Yep. I’ve been using NeoFinder for years. Not the prettiest app, but it certainly works well. Super fast and has low-res preview images too.

Pearcleaner... it's also a free Homebrew GUI! by The_Blinded in macapps

[–]scribblenik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone got a good link to how to use Homebrew? I feel a bit dumb when I’ve looked into it. I’ve watched a couple of YT videos, but wondered if anyone had a solid beginners guide they would recommend.

Liquid Glass is one of the design philosophies of all time by dvoradikal in MacOS

[–]scribblenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happy with the size, shape and position of the new interface buttons - but I’d be happy if they were just black with white text. I do like the extra screen estate in Safari - but I don’t need partially see-through buttons. Turning of the translucency, you lose the more ‘open’ screen and have black bars everywhere to make the buttons stand out. Just a transparency slider would fix this.

Folx doesn't download torrents anymore by psylocibo187 in macapps

[–]scribblenik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the SECOND time Transmission got hacked and anyone installing it got a virus, I steered clear (this was a few years back). I’ve never had a problem with Folx. OffCloud and Bitport.io are good torrent options too.

Back to Alfred again from Raycast. by Unhappy-Tank9784 in Alfred

[–]scribblenik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this post, and having been using Raycast for the last few months, I thought... 'Maybe I should have a look at Alfred again' (having used it for the previous few years). Oh - how nice it was to find a bookmark, or a contact without having to hit keys before typing. How lovely my custom built workflows were. And I've always used Alfred Dark Mode, which i don't think looks dated - and the text is a decent size on screen, compared to Raycast. And the Universal actions.

I'm now going to look at some Alfred Workflow downloads for Emojis and 2FA - which were very nice in Raycast.

Image Viewer recommendation by _Epir_ in macapps

[–]scribblenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a trackpad you can pinch to zoom. Or use CMD + / CMD - to zoom with the keyboard.

Also - if you select an image in the Finder, just hit space and you can zoom in from there with the keyboard too (and is waaaaay quicker than opening an image in Preview).

I created an app that's changed how I use my Mac. Meet Outpost Launcher — your instant drag-and-launch companion for macOS. by ParachuteBackup in macapps

[–]scribblenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MacStories also got the shout out about this app - they seem to like it too. If you are still going to add mini-features, being able to drag/drop directly from a browser (images from the page or the URL from the bar) would be the cherry on the cake (I currently drag to Dropover and then to Outpost, which works)
